  1. More like PGX Based on books I have seen/briefly owned, CBCS is almost as bad in the 9.6 and higher grades. There is a reason that CBCS books sell for a discount relative to CGC..........
  2. Ah, you must be referring to CBCS standards for that...............
  3. Hit a coin and store stamp today that has some comics and landed a few Batman 86, 89, and 90 1st prints at 20% off of cover in the recent back issue boxes. I need to keep that place in mind for future hot moderns.
  4. Looks like the 3rd print version of Batman #89.
  5. Right now we have the perfect storm. Free COVID cash + reduced store orders + no conventions = high prices on hot new releases and copper/modern keys.
  6. I think you would be surprised. I know of at least a couple of boardies who post in the modern forum from time to time that meet the generally accepted net worth criteria to be considered wealthy.
  7. Thanos 13 was an awesome play due to all of the variants. There was a 1:10, 1:25, trading card and head shot variants. I sold my raw regular issues for $20 the first couple of days, then up to $100 at the end. Some of the variants sold for $150 - $200 raw at the peak. I wish I had been able to snag one of the 1:25s, but someone beat me to those at the closest LCS to work.
  8. Yes. Venom 25 2nd print wraparound. Sorry, my typo.
  9. Oh, there are boardies that post here who have turned comic money into equity investments that would be deemed wealthy now as a result..........
  10. Did you take a look at the Venom 25 2nd print wraparound cover that is coming out in a couple of weeks by any chance?
  11. Depends on when you sold the Venom 1 2016, and what price you bought them at. I speculated on Spawn 300 and sold the variants to cover my discounted bulk buy cost. If you did that, you are fine.
  12. I thought Immortal Hulk 1 was a no brainer due to the cool Ross cover, not the storyline or the character. As a result I missed out on #2........... The latest Venom #1 was a no brainer to me due to Cates and popularity of the character. I figured it would be a $10 - $15 book at conventions all day long. The only mistake was not speculating on #3 since I was not sure about Knull. Luckily there have been/will be other follow on opportunities in the title to make $$$ on. Naomi #1 was a no brainer as well. I did not expect to be selling it for $100 at shows last year, but I thought it would be a $20 book. There are two books coming out in July that I consider sure bets as well.....................
  13. He just sold the last 12 he had at the show for $20 apiece to us on the last day since he was packing up and heading out. He was getting $120 apiece for them the first three days. We hit it off with him so he gave us a deal and explained his system. There have been many sure things the past 3 years based on his criteria. Most of them were Marvel (e.g. Thanos 13, TAH 22, Venom 3, Immortal Hulk 1), but DC is now getting into the game (although Naomi 1 was an awesome play as well). The latest one was Punchline - she was telegraphed well in advance - and there several others coming up from both companies that should be $$$$$. The Independent game has been much tougher since really late 2011 - mid 2013. Back then pretty much every Image #1 became a $10-$20 (or more) book overnight and that lasted for a few months. For every hit now there are a ton of misses, and the window for selling them is much shorter.
  14. No. Only speculate on 1st apps that look like no brainers. Spider-Gwen was a sure thing in his mind, same with Silk, since they were Spidey related and Marvel put some promotional $$$$ behind them. Focus on the new character 1st apps in top franchises, and/or ones the publishers are promoting behind the scenes. Also pay attention to what the writers are saying via social media.
  15. And a tip on speculating that I learned from a collector turned new store owner a few years back at the 2015 Calgary Expo - don't overthink it and go big on sure things. This individual was just coming off big wins with 1000 copies of Amazing Spider-Man #4 (Silk), EoSV #2 (Spider-Gwen), and then the newly released Darth Vader #3 (Dr. Aphra). We had a nice chat and then he sold us the remaining EoSV 2s he had on hand at the show that morning for $20 apiece, plus the ASM #4 1:10 and EoSV #2 1:25 variants for cheap. He parlayed his comic speculating wins from 2010 to 2014 into a building that he set up a LCS in.
  16. You should be able to get DCBS discounts on bulk orders through your file LCS. Just talk to the manager/owner and they should be willing to set it up since it may help them qualify for a better Diamond/DC rate, or get a better ratio variant (which you will likely get first shot at as well). I changed my bulk deal to a new store a couple of years back to a closer LCS, but it is the same discount I had at my original one. And, if you are doing the bulk order, you should get all of the ratio variants at cover or the discount you work out with the store, not market value.
  17. Not Snyder related, but is Disney/Marvel hosting their D-23 event in August again as well? Inquiring minds need to know how to time their auctions for optimal returns...........
  18. As long as you pay attention to what is coming out, it is not hard to selectively speculate on books. You have to pick and choose the 1st apps and hot covers carefully, but it can be done very profitably.
  19. What we are seeing now is what you see at conventions - the retail modern buyers overpaying for books they need to have. It never ceases to amaze me what books will sell for at shows relative to other venues. Instead of paying cover for a new release at the LCS down the road, they will pay $10 - $20 for it at the show.
  20. So Season 7 will be All New FINAL final? In any case, that is fantastic news. Two more seasons to watch.
  21. It is bellrules' book, and he is much better to deal with. I would price it at $200 if it was mine because I am a greedy SOB.
  22. Newsstand copies of UXM 266 have been spiking the past months. I wonder if this trend will continue for newsies if other keys as well.
