I don't think you should just change the definition of words because it's more convenient to the collector. The definition of restoration on paper collectibles was established long before CGC existed.
Taping a tear on a paper collectible was considered restoration until CGC decided it wasn't.

12 minutes ago, Get Marwood & I said:I can see that Mark, yes. But grading is a physical thing - the condition of the thing that is being graded is all that matters, not the intentions of a previous owner. The PLOD destroys the value of the book, often unfairly. One tiny dot renders an otherwise attractive copy as 'undesirable'. Better to grade it as is, and note accordingly, i.e. a blue label with a note stating the extent of any colour touch.
If the label is blue, but any colour touch is noted, the behaviour is still discouraged and the buyer can make their own mind up, free from the artificial destruction of value that the 'wrong' coloured label beings with it.
Furthermore, purple labels have been encouraging more and more restoration removal - by CGC and others - which amounts to little more than intentional mutilation of a comic. I don't like seeing comics harmed in any way. And the current technique of removal is akin to going to the doctor because you have a limp and having him correct it by cutting your foot off. A correctly graded and noted blue label would put a swift stop to this ill-advised practice.

Masking a spine tick with color touch intends on deceiving the owner/potential buyer into thinking there is no flaw, when in fact, there is a flaw...
I don't agree with color touch "not being restoration". Give it (PLO) death.
The PLOD punishes the (deceived) buyer, not the seller. Treat the color touch and the defect it's masking for what they are - flaws - and grade accordingly.

Six years ago CGC modified its stance on tape to treat it as a defect, not restoration, and grade the comic as if the tape was not present.
CGC-Modifies-Stance-on-Grading-Submissions-with-Tape
I think it's time the same approach was considered for color touch (and tear seals).
CGC currently has a restoration removal program allowing for the removal of both. But the removal technique is often simply to scrape off or cut away the offending area of the cover (I recently saw a CGC 6.0 JIM 83 that was butchered down to a 3.0) resulting in a lot of otherwise well-presenting covers being permanently defaced.
A simple color touch (often a tiny (less than 1/4") felt mark meant to mask a color-breaking crease) means a PLOD for a comic. But if this exact same felt mark appeared elsewhere on the comic, say a small black pen mark across a differently-colored logo, CGC would treat it as what it really is - a defect. With a blue label attached.
I would prefer in the case of color touch for CGC (as they do with tape) to simply grade the comics as if the defects were not present and slab each comic with a corresponding blue label noting "color touch on cover."
For instance: A "near mint" comic is sent in. Looks to all eyes like a 9.4 until the grader detects color touch masking a tiny color-breaking corner crease. The grader, now taking the crease into consideration, gives the comic a blue 8.0 grade with a 'color touch" notation. The colored felt on the cover is treated as a defect, not restoration. To me this seems a better option that giving this comic either a 9.4 PLOD or sending it for restoration removal and having the comic returned with a lesser grade and the corner cut off. The exact same consideration should be given to tear seals (just as tape is a tear seal). Grade the comic as if the tear seal was not present and slab it with an appropriate blue label.
PLODs should be reserved for comics that have been truly restored.

I've already said how I feel about this episode; everything was executed flawlessly from the dark, doom-filled atmosphere of the battle to the shocking climax. But I would have loved to have seen an undead Hodor make a triumphant and terrifying return to the hold he once called home!

So much wrong in this episode I don't know where to begin but it will be interesting how they take on Cersi now without an army. I guess there are a lot of the north still that decided not to fight but what motivation do they have to fight now for the Iron Throne?
While cool scene I will say it was ridiculous for Arya of all people to kill the NK not to mention how did she even get to him? it should have been John. She had no history of battling the NK at all as far as I can remember she never even met him before.
Let me just say that in a fight between Arya and Jon Snow I would put my money on the girl.

The Night King has been trying to kill the 3 Eyed Raven for years. Did he allow any of his army kill the 3 Eyed Raven in the cave season 6. No, he did it himself. The Night King isn't going to let anyone else other than himself get the satisfaction of killing the 3 Eyed Raven.
Totally agree. Are we allowed to post theories on this thread? If, so read on...
SpoilerThe Night King's immunity to fire and ability to ride a dragon must mean he was once a Targaryen. The children of the forest had a purpose for creating the white walkers - keeping humanity in check - but this particular Night King (not the first) proved too hard to control. The final episode will show Bran returning north of the wall thinking he is to be the new Three-Eyed Raven, instead he is taken by the children and made their new Night King.

Just finished watching it for the second time...wow. Maisie Williams (Arya) said she was worried fans would hate it but I was blown away and thought it was perfect. Loved the interaction between her and Melisandre, especially the look the red witch gave her when she first entered Winterfell like she knew.
I also loved the little Mormont girl taking out the zombie giant!
And was the music playing during the climax the same tune that played when Cersei blew up the church in Kings Landing?

Thanks for the all well-wishing and naming options guys!....and sorry it took so long to get back going....we've been holed up at the hospital all week after they found that his bilyrubin levels were high...they wisked him away at midnight the 2nd day...just 36 hours in...to put him under the uv lamps & such. Luckily the treatment worked to knock it down a bit & he sustained after the "non-treatment" window, so we were finally cleared to take him home as of yesterday
We settled on Warren, which was her favorite from the beginning and I definitely had no argument...as one of my favorite characters growing up came from my father's X-Factor stash...Warren Worthington III...and once he became Archangel it was over...he was right up there with Wolverine & Batman for me...so Warren Gregory Way is the newest comic book fan to join the world!!
More books to come!
Warren is a great choice! Though I would have gone with Peace for the middle name. Warren Peace...I like it!
Congrats again and GLWTS!

Just sold a 'Tec #444 (CGC 9.4) to Randall and the entire deal went as smooth as can be. Having been on both sides of the ledger with this first-class boardie, I can assure anyone scanning this thread you're dealing with someone topnotch.

Been trying to curtail my comic-spending lately, but just like the groovy chick on this compelling cover - my absolute favorite among non-Wrightson DC Bronze Age horror and also very HTF in high grade (only one 9.6 copy known) - I couldn't help myself!

The shops here (in Vancouver, Canada) all have a lot of inventory of new stuff, TPBs etc. Not much to speak of in terms of bronze, silver or gold back issues (hard to compete with the internet for those). And I don't buy a lot of modern stuff anymore, but if I do buy any I always make sure to get it from my LCS only because I am a condition nut (I get nervous even watching the sales staff handle the comics I've selected when they're ringing them up, bagging/boarding them, etc). Every time I have bought new releases over the internet I have almost always been disappointed in the condition when received.
So for me, when it comes to new releases, my local LCS still gets my vote and my support.

An impeccable seller. A reliable ebay giant. And I know they take consignments, so the consigner will set the price. So my question is, Why? Why list a book with a market value of about $11.40 for $1140.00, about 100 times it's market value?
Because with MCS' notorious under grading both buyers and sellers know this baby is at least a 5.0 Restored!
Seriously though, as someone who often consigns with MCS I know they offer a wealth of information (GPA data/MCS sales history/etc.) on every comic consigned to assist the seller with setting a fair sales price. If some sellers choose to completely ignore it...

6 and 9 have always been favorites of mine, and I think both could be spec books down the road...I remember buying a 6 in low grade for $10 off the wall of a LCS...
X-Men #6
Bought mine at the Comicshop with $20 my dad gave me for my birthday in 1982. Despite reading it over and over and storing it unbagged in my sock drawer for 5 years CGC still graded it a 9.0 (now if I could just figure out how to remove that dirty sock odor).

Congratulations. It is too late for this but the best way to pick baby names is a list on the fridge, anyone can write a name down and either parent can cross it off. Worked very well for my 2 kids.
I hope neither of your kids is named Milk.

Huge congrats!
Guessing you've already ruled out the name Hall?

Due to the success of my recent WTB thread (I now have high-grade raw and slabbed on many of the issues I was hunting for) and a need to raise funds I have listed some sweet Bronze Age Richie Rich comics on eBay. No collection should be without these! If interested in any feel free to send me a PM!

Restoration removal often involves cutting away the "restored" part of the comic, particularly with tear seals.
