  1. Agreed I told you when you first asked me about it that it looked at least 8.0 to me and maybe better. I never did look at the back though so the buyer may be in for a surprise. (thumbs u Andrew
  2. WOW!!! Great price for the consigner and me at least. I told you I thought that one was way under-graded. Some stronger prices on the Helen G. books this week though. (thumbs u Andrew
  3. More Helen G. Books this week, lot of GL and JLA. I'm not sure if it's my grading that's really bad or are they under grading some of these books? I do know from my contact that on raw books they tend to slightly under grade, but 6.0 on the GL #7? If I'm missing something let me know. I can only learn from my mistakes. (thumbs u Andrew
  4. Two over 200, One Uncle Scrooge, One Dell Giant and a Partridge in a Pear Tree (thumbs u Andrew
  5. What no Ducks. A Five my dad has below 100. (thumbs u Andrew
  6. The JLA #1 came back as a 7.0 A bit disapointed I was off by a grade, but after looking at the pic again and calling for the graders notes I can see what I missed. It will go in the Feb. Sig. Auction. Let you know when I get anymore info. (thumbs u Andrew
  7. More books from both collections in this weeks auction. Some GL in there too. (thumbs u Andrew
  8. 9.0 $59,750 on Heritage (thumbs u Andrew
  9. YOU hope he doesn't expand his interest into foreign copies!! Just read your post with my Dad, he's curious what's the market is for Australian copies? Maybe we should expand our focus. Don't worry Andrew I'm hold'n him back. (thumbs u Andrew
  10. Nice books Andrew, hope my dad doesn't decide to expand his interests into foreign copies too. Nice books to you also BB-Gun, still looking for a nice copy of the 31. Watching the Heritage Auction tonight my dad picked up three: WDC&S 33 (8.0), 41, & 93. Post 'em when we get 'em. Unpacked some books tonight as well, the FC 9 is from Heritage and the WDC&S are from a fellow board member. (thumbs u Andrew p.s. I was a little disappointed w/ the FC 9 but my dad had already raised the bid and I called him too late to stop him. But now that it's in hand I'll love it anyway. Till I can talk him into an upgrade.
  11. I was correct the lots already have the tag line included, so the above books are them. (thumbs u Andrew
  12. Great books BB-Gun, any idea who Edgar Vail is? (thumbs u Andrew
  13. I thought you said the grades on these books were pretty decent? What kinds of grades has Heritage given them? Are any going to be graded? Andrew, I think you've had enough experience with the grading process and the market to get a sense of whether the books are worth slabbing or not. You should TELL Heritage what you want, not assume that they will act in your best interest. I'm sorry I meant that all the current lots were raw. Books are being sent in for grading assuming the grade and the value of the book warranted it. I understand what your saying Tim but there is a trade off in getting books graded in that the fees do start to add up. If all my Dad's books had been graded I don't think there would have been very much money left. I did make some specific requests of books being graded but I did defer to Heritage's experience on some. (thumbs u Andrew
  14. That's what I'm counting on. I just wish I could have pulled the trigger on the White Mountain 9.0 PLOD X-Men 1 that went for 10k. I'll have to settle for my 6.0 Blue Label. (thumbs u Andrew
  15. In the current climate I think the answer to this question is Yes. Jul 2008 AF#15 9.6 (PLOD slight pro) $50k Oct 2008 AF#15 8.5 (Blue) $119k If I had that kind of money I would have taken the 9.6 and been as happy as a pig in slop. I have no Idea why. If you take a piece of fine art and have it Pro. Restored it actually gains value. The opposite is true for funny books. Maybe its like antique furniture and guns and what not you have to have the original patina. To me anything that will make the book last longer and look better is a good thing right? (thumbs u Andrew
  16. I think it's the single book lots. I was told by my contact that they had not started w/ group lots yet and they added them today so I think it's the following: Action 258 up to 267 Aquaman 3 up to 10 Batman 129 up to 138 Detective 274 up to 281, 282 & 284 , 286 The lots that do have pics already look right. Hey and I was pretty close in my grading. Gettin Better!! Have to wait and see on some of the bigger books. (thumbs u Andrew
  17. I feel the only type of "bad" restoration is the kind that removes anything from the book i.e. trimming. Beyond that I'm coming around to the idea that some of the other procedures are not all that harmful if at all. I currently don't mind the stigma as that means I can get some really nice books for way below guide. I am holding out hope that some day some of the practices will become more accepted and the books I'm buying now will get within 25% or so of their Universal counterparts. But if not hey I still got a great looking book for a reasonable price. My most recent example. Highest graded copy, small color touch ( I can't even see it? ), and books for $350 universal. My dad paid less than Half. (thumbs u Andrew
  18. As promised I'm keeping you updated. The "new collection" gets a name: Heritage ( thankfully ) has given the collection a tag line name. The consigner decided to pay tribute to his mother, for not throwing the books away , and will be known as the "Helen G. Collection". They will call out the collection in the newsletter this week or next. About 33 lots have already been entered into the auction starting on Nov. 15th from four of the titles: Action Comics Aquaman Batman Detective Comics All the current lots are from around 1960 and will be sold raw. Heritage felt this books helped represent the collection's overall grade. More lots will be added in the following weeks. I've advised them with the current popularity of GL that more of them should be graded so we'll see. I think that's it. Any questions just post or PM. (thumbs u Andrew
  19. Slow week only one to unpack tonight. (thumbs u Andrew
  20. Sorry you didn't get what you wanted. More stuff this week though. (thumbs u Andrew
  21. Not on our copy or any of the other copies of that time frame. On most of our copies the address square is on the back cover. But our copy doesn't even have that. (thumbs u Andrew I did a search for this issue on ebay and saw another with the address there (used). I am thinking some issues they put the blank box on the back and other times on the front. Only used for subscription copies, and most of those are now low grade so perhaps that why it seems strange to us. I'll have to dig out some of our raw copies and see, as those are not as high in grade. (thumbs u Andrew
  22. A few of my dad's books ( David N. Toth Pedigree ) in this weeks auction. FYI (thumbs u Andrew
  23. Not on our copy or any of the other copies of that time frame. On most of our copies the address square is on the back cover. But our copy doesn't even have that. (thumbs u Andrew
