  1. I won 2 auctions with Metropolis last summer that mysteriously came in at exactly my maximum bid. I authorized payment, and heard nothing for a month. Then I emailed and phoned them, and eventually was told they couldn’t find the books I won. They are unresponsive con men, and will get no more money from me.
  2. Not my first, but a very special comic because Santa put it in my stocking.
  3. What is the turnaround time lately for vintage books? I understand that has historically been an issue.
  4. My impression is that somehow the family estates still have their hooks in with Tarzan and Sherlock Holmes. Not sure how that it is a thing when Tarzan started in 1912, and Sherlock was 1887.
  5. The last few days this site is asking me to login every time I come to visit. Gets old real fast.
  6. All that enters public domain in 2034 is Superman, as he was when he first appeared. So, all the Superman mythology that was introduced in subsequent issues (such as flying) has to wait until the 96th anniversary of those developments. Anyone could do a comic in 2034 about a non flying version of Superman that beats up sleazy landlords and wifebeaters, as Superman did in his early issues (Grant Morrison wrote similar tales when he worked on Action for the New 52). if it was good enough to read, one would wonder why the creators would not just work at DC. Probably somebody will do something terrible for shock value like the Winnie the Pooh horror movie, but I question how many people really watch such things (particularly more than the first ten minutes). Here in Canada, the James Bond novels are in public domain. I am not aware of anybody trying to do anything with them though.
  7. Comic Connect shills their auctions. Not sure if that only helps them, or if it also results in you getting more money.
  8. That’s my LCS owner’s description for books that are overpriced. “ I saw a copy of Hulk Annual #1 CGC 3.0 for $900.” Yep, saw it, didn’t buy it.
  9. Everyone now sees Kingpin as a Daredevil villain. But of course he was a Spider-Man villain long before that.
  10. Just a random shot of everything in my “recently acquired, yet to be read” pile. Merry Christmas to all!
  11. Just a random shot of all the Silver Age books in my “recently acquired, yet to be read “ pile. Merry Christmas to all!
  12. Best wishes to Jimbo for a swift and complete recovery! I would like to offer the following books as a package deal, all in VF/NM condition: Batman 193, Secret Wars 1, and X-Factor 1. Price is $199, shipping to Canada or the US included, and all proceeds to Jimbo.
  13. Back in the mid to late 80s, when Frank Miller mania was in full swing thanks to Daredevil and The Dark Knight Returns, I was in a comic store in London, Ontario, and saw all 4 issues of Ronin on the wall. I asked to examine them, they were in good shape, the price was reasonable, and I said I’ll take them. As the middle aged woman proprietor was ringing them through and putting them in a bag, she let out a big sigh, and said “ It’s so sad. We put together this run of all 4 issues for a local dad who knew nothing about comics, but his son who was in hospital really wanted them, so he asked us to find all 4 issues. We just called him to say we had a complete set, and he said his son had died, so we could sell them to someone else.” So reading every single page was haunted by the image of some teenager slowly dying in hospital. Thanks lady, thanks.
  14. Amazing. Giordano’s experience inking Neal Adams really allowed him to elevate Dillon’s often pedestrian pencils. And am I the only one who preferred Red Tornado’s original red and purple costume? I was miffed when they put yellow racing stripes all over the poor guy.
  15. Holy ! You own the splash page original art from JLA 110??!!! I have the verse on that card committed to memory!
  16. Thank you both for taking the time to comment!
