  1. I recently picked up a copy of Atom 10, which outwardly looks to be about an 8.0. But on the splash page, below the Atom and above the gun is a 4 or an A very lightly drawn in pencil. There is no ridge on the paper, and no marking through the page. And in addition, someone made some blue dots on another page with what I assume was a small magic marker. There is bleed through to the next page, but only about half the intensity. How would you grade this book? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
  2. I collect high grade Silver Age for the most part (8.0-9.0). The average comic on my want list is $200 US. I have been at this hobby for 35 purchasing years, so I already have acquired the low hanging fruit. I probably only find and buy a book on my want list on a quarterly basis.
  3. My wife told me a friend was coming over that had some interest in comics, and that maybe I should put together a little group of some of my older issues. These are them:
  4. VERY nice. I am finding hi grade silver age Hawkman one of the hardest titles to find.
  5. The Sentinels are my favourite villains. But they were miscoloured in one issue each in 3 out of 4 of their first story arcs. (The Neal Adams arc got it right)
  6. You can shop online at Metrolpolis, and then make an appointment to inspect and verify and purchase your books.
  7. And the day before I bid $133 for another book. Fortunately, my final winning bid was only $132: https://https://www.comicconnect.com/item/987408www.comicconnect.com/item/987408
  8. This one. I bid $401 and SOMEHOW that came out to be the final price. The $461.15 shown represents “fees”. https://www.comicconnect.com/item/1010444https://www.comicconnect.com/item/1010444?tzf=1
  9. By my count, there are now 3 of us in this thread that have reported we were bidding on CC, and the final price miraculously ended up being EXACTLY our maximum bid. Connect the dots people. Commissioner Gordon : “ Detectives aren’t allowed to believe in coincidences.” Plain, simple, Mr Garak: “Of course I believe in coincidences, coincidences happen every day. I just don’t trust coincidences.”
  10. Please tell me this bean eating resulted in a massive Hulk fart later that issue. BTW - Beans are not allowed on the International Space Station, and yes, it is because of toots.
  11. I had this happen with one auction on Comic Connect too. Seemed very suspicious to me.
  12. Guys, while these books are cool, this is the Silver Age group. As soon as cover prices went to 15 cents, the Bronze Age began.
  13. Gentlemen - I would like your input on grading this comic. It has a really nice glossy cover but then also has a 3/4” colour breaking crease at the bottom right. The crease does not extend beyond the cover. Thanks in advance for any opinions.
  14. I am so obsessed with comic collecting that to fund it I have worked 40 hours a week, every week, for the past 30 years. At a really dull office job.
  15. UPDATE: I called Metropolis back this week, and was told they had left a message on my phone. My phone showed a call from their number, but no message was left. But I took them at their word. They still cannot find all the comics in my order, so as I had offered, they will simply cancel the entire order and issue a refund via Mastercard. If I don’t actually see that refund, I will let everyone know. They apologized again, and said if the comics ever show up I will be given the chance to purchase them at the previously prices (I won’t). They also said I will get free shipping if I decide to order from them again. That does not seem likely at the moment.
  16. So please tell me who this good vendor is!
  17. I have bought raw books twice before from Metropolis, and had no disagreement on grades (8.5), and no problems with books not shipping punctually.
  18. Has anyone else had recent problems with Metropolis/Comic Connect? I won two books in late August on Comic Connect auctions. I live in Canada, so to make the shipping worth it I bought four more books from Metropolis. I did not see any way to link the two purchases into one package for shipping, so I called their phone number, and spoke to a very helpful staffer who agreed to ship the 6 books together, and charge to my credit card on file. It usually takes about two weeks to get a package from the US. After four weeks, I had received nothing, so I called them last Wednesday morning. After a lengthy period on hold, the again helpful staffer apologized and said something had gone very wrong with my order. One or more of the books I ordered could not be found, and potentially had been sold/sent to someone else. But rather than do anything about it, they just parked my order and there it sat until I called. The staffer asked for more time to figure out what was wrong, and promised to call me back by the end of the day. She didn’t. Nor did she call the next day. I called again Friday, got the answering machine, and left a message. No response. I called today, spoke to the same staffer who again apologized, said other people have not gotten back to her. She again asked for the remainder of the day to shake people down. I agreed on the strict condition that she call me back with an update by the end of the day, and she promised to do so, asking if she could leave a message if I did not pick up, and I said that was fine. I also said at this point, I’m ok with just cancelling this order if they will refund my credit card. The work day in New York City, where Metropolis is located, ended an hour ago. No response to me. So at this point I am wondering if anyone else has had recent or current problems with them? And you might want to stay off Comic Connect until they figure this out. I will of course update everyone if there are further developments.
  19. Also, each of the 60 cent Detectives has a new Batman story pencilled by a different great Artist: Alex Toth, Sal Almendola, Jim Aparo, Howard Chaykin, and Walter Simonson. I’ve already got them, now you can too!
  20. Who did the art for the Dragonslayer adaption? I’ve never heard of it before.
