  1. I am so obsessed with comic collecting that to fund it I have worked 40 hours a week, every week, for the past 30 years. At a really dull office job.
  2. UPDATE: I called Metropolis back this week, and was told they had left a message on my phone. My phone showed a call from their number, but no message was left. But I took them at their word. They still cannot find all the comics in my order, so as I had offered, they will simply cancel the entire order and issue a refund via Mastercard. If I don’t actually see that refund, I will let everyone know. They apologized again, and said if the comics ever show up I will be given the chance to purchase them at the previously prices (I won’t). They also said I will get free shipping if I decide to order from them again. That does not seem likely at the moment.
  3. So please tell me who this good vendor is!
  4. I have bought raw books twice before from Metropolis, and had no disagreement on grades (8.5), and no problems with books not shipping punctually.
  5. Has anyone else had recent problems with Metropolis/Comic Connect? I won two books in late August on Comic Connect auctions. I live in Canada, so to make the shipping worth it I bought four more books from Metropolis. I did not see any way to link the two purchases into one package for shipping, so I called their phone number, and spoke to a very helpful staffer who agreed to ship the 6 books together, and charge to my credit card on file. It usually takes about two weeks to get a package from the US. After four weeks, I had received nothing, so I called them last Wednesday morning. After a lengthy period on hold, the again helpful staffer apologized and said something had gone very wrong with my order. One or more of the books I ordered could not be found, and potentially had been sold/sent to someone else. But rather than do anything about it, they just parked my order and there it sat until I called. The staffer asked for more time to figure out what was wrong, and promised to call me back by the end of the day. She didn’t. Nor did she call the next day. I called again Friday, got the answering machine, and left a message. No response. I called today, spoke to the same staffer who again apologized, said other people have not gotten back to her. She again asked for the remainder of the day to shake people down. I agreed on the strict condition that she call me back with an update by the end of the day, and she promised to do so, asking if she could leave a message if I did not pick up, and I said that was fine. I also said at this point, I’m ok with just cancelling this order if they will refund my credit card. The work day in New York City, where Metropolis is located, ended an hour ago. No response to me. So at this point I am wondering if anyone else has had recent or current problems with them? And you might want to stay off Comic Connect until they figure this out. I will of course update everyone if there are further developments.
  6. Also, each of the 60 cent Detectives has a new Batman story pencilled by a different great Artist: Alex Toth, Sal Almendola, Jim Aparo, Howard Chaykin, and Walter Simonson. I’ve already got them, now you can too!
  7. Who did the art for the Dragonslayer adaption? I’ve never heard of it before.
  8. I never looked at the Journals until I saw this thread. Now that I have, I am confused as to how they differ from just starting a new thread on the chat boards?
  9. *checks watch* Not quite Friday yet, mam.
  10. Grant Morrison’s JLA run was too short for me. Jack Kirby’s Fourth World books.
  11. I just got a comic from Patrick and highly recommend him. The book was as advertised, securely packaged, and quickly shipped.
  12. This cover is one that has always bothered me, yet I have seen it reproduced on Marvel merchandise. The anatomy on Spider-Man breaks a fundamental rule: when a human is in motion, as a leg goes forward, the OPPOSITE arm also goes forward for balance. The next time you are at a nice soft beach, try to jump up like Spider-Man with the same leg and arm leading. See if you can even stick the landing.
  13. In X-Men 99, the new X-Men have their first battle with Sentinels (continuing the story from 98). The early Sentinel appearances were plagued by colouring problems, with the Sentinels coloured orange in one issue each of the Sentinel arcs in Stan and Jack’s first origin story, their appearance in Avengers #104, and yet again in X-Men 99. Only the Thomas and Adams arc was coloured correctly. Q: When X-Men 99 was reprinted in Classic X-Men 7, were the colouring errors corrected?
  14. It sounds like you have a relatively small collection, with the items you mentioned worth over $1,000. I think it makes a lot of sense to at least list them here for whatever price you think is fair. You have very little to lose.
  15. My wife has travelled widely in Canada, the US, and Europe for her job. Vegas is the ONLY city she has ever been to that she thought was awful.
  16. I am currently working on ASM 30-40 in 8.0-9.0. Each issue costs a minimum of about $400, and then more if it’s a key like the first Rhino. Needless to say, progress is slow on these issues. Right up there with my quest for FF 40-50.
  17. Back issues of Amazing Spider-Man, particularly in high grade, are the most liquid investment one can make in comics. When you want to sell, there is always a market.
  18. Robin Williams once said that having Canada immediately north of the US is like a nice apartment over a meth lab.
