  1. I honestly don't know how to talk to you, sometimes. I don't know how in the world that made up, fantasy situation has anything to do with what we're talking about. Whether or not other people disagree with grades is not relevant to doing your due diligence when trying to sell something. It's the least a seller of a an item where condition matters can do to help establish good-faith and encourage return customers. If that stuff doesn't matter to you, that's weird. But we're also talking more broadly about LEARNING to grade. Everyone who cares about buying and selling comics should learn to grade. Everyone. Before you even respond: Yes, I understand not everyone can agree on a grade all the time. Yes, I understand some people will disagree and maybe want a refund. Yes, I understand you sell things without giving a grade. Yes, I understand CGC has graded books incorrectly. Yes, I understand there are bad-faith people on eBay that over grade. Yes, I understand someone who knows nothing about comics won't know how to do that. Yes, I understand some other thing you'll say that's not relevant. Bottom line: Learn to grade. Or don't. I don't even remember how we got here. It was a hanging chad in that book, right?
  2. Curveball: Had a dealer drop off some of my books at CGC on the 14th of Feb. All modern/economy slow except one Modern FT. That modern FT is back in hand TODAY (3/1/22). I don't know what kind of wacky magic that was but I'll take it.
  3. I just don't understand this perfect being the enemy of good, stuff. You guys keep bringing up the worst case examples as a reason to not do this. I can tell ya of the hundreds of books I've sold this year, I've had one person disagree and they were VERY right because I missed something. I also offer completely free returns where I pony up shipping - no questions asked. I've had 1 return in the last 12 months and again, it was absolutely my fault. If I'm doing something wrong, I want to know so I can be better. To the people here who don't know how to grade - It's literally the BEST thing you can work on in this hobby to make your money spend better/farther and your selling rep/prices go higher. If you don't care, then don't worry about it. No one is gonna force you but here's one anecdotal data point that won't matter to you: Unless I'm getting a ridiculoussssss deal, I will never buy from people who won't give a grade and do the, "judge for yourself" spiel.
  4. Freak what ya'll feel, I guess? If it's working, work it, girl. Until they officially recognize the grade 6.9, That's the only grade I'll sell by books at.
  5. Yo Kav! Been a while! Listing a grade does mean something. If I buy a book listed as NM from someone and it's way off, I know to never buy from them again. Likewise, If I sell multiple books as NM and I keep getting feedback that I'm wrong, I know that I need to change something. It's also just the bare minimum you can do as a seller. It doesn't even need to be exact! Say the book is upper mid-grade. That gives you wiggle room but still gives you an idea where the book will be. If you honestly can't even give a ballpark, I feel like you're gonna have a bad time selling. But also, whether or not people disagree with CGC's top grader or not is irrelevant. So then should CGC stop giving grade? I don't see the point in that? Also, Also, how would you get complaints about your grades when you don't grade? Biggest also, "Remember when you list a grade-you will be selling to people who do not know how to grade a comic."...What does that even mean? So If I assign a grade, that means the person buying won't know how to grade? But If I don't they will know how to grade? I'm so confused.
  6. First, you have to accept returns on Ebay. Regardless if you're right or wrong in a situation, that's just the way it is if you plan on selling there. Second, "I'm not a professional" is a giant weasel-phrase for not knowing how to grade a comic. Just say the grade, please. Facebook seller groups have really amplified this idea of writing, "I'm not a professional. please judge the condition yourself." as a catch all. This is largely beyond the point of your particular circumstance but don't write that anymore. It's a BIG red flag. Third, I think you're missing the point about what trimming is or can be and only focusing on you being upset that they would accuse you of trimming. If the anomaly isn't disclosed and they're unhappy, offer the return. You both get to not deal with each other in the future and it's settled. Now, you can relist it with that defect pictured and acknowledged and this won't happen again, hopefully.
  7. This all the way. My legs are always sore after a show from digging in floor boxes. The only thing I won't suffer (and you'll know these if you live in FL) are Joe's .50 boxes because of how he packs them. It's always two unbagged comics and then a bagged/boarded one. Realllly makes finding a rhythm hard. I've been hitting the $5 and up boxes recently and having good luck but there's nothing like unsorted $1 bins from a new dealer
  8. npcheesewiz Made an offer, I accepted and then they immediately sent a cancellation request.
  9. Bisbee is such a weird, fun place. Stopped in 2011 on a whim and ended up drinking and getting the tour with a bunch of wacky characters.
  10. I used USPS registered mail because I was insuring the box for about 21k. It sucked having to take the shipping/insurance hit but having them do all the work was really great and took a lot of stress off of me. I can't recommend them enough. Great experience from start to finish.
  11. I'm also trying to wrap my memory around that bank. I'm almost sure I had it but have no memory of being shrink wrapped to a box of cereal.
  12. Man...That cereal was NOT good and I would eat any cereal back then.
  13. That's what I saw, too. Anyone who's sold with them in the last year (or previous years) have any insight?
  14. They made them. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Batman Begins might be the best we ever get from a Batman movie and TDK's Joker will be the model for that role going forward. Perfectly paced, brooding, excellent acting and all the great popcorn moments you can stomach in a movie that takes itself that seriously.
  15. Apologies if this was already answered here but do Mycomicshop or Heritage send 1099s from consignments? Getting conflicting information and their sites are not helpful.
  16. I can't stand comic youtubers for the most part. Especially speccy ones that use the terrible thumbnail surprise face and have RGB LEDs in their background. The constant need for hype and energy is exhausting and embarrassing. However, Cartoonist Kayfabe is legit, man. Those two dudes are encyclopedias of comics (especially late 80s into the 90s...the part I have the most nostalgia for) and have the snaps on a lot inside baseball type stuff. Comic Tropes is great for deep-diving but he can be a little too "comic book guy" at times. I watch Very Gary and I don't even know why. I don't think it's particularly interesting content but he's a pretty charming dude.
  17. Slightly off-topic but has any found any of the old Five Below Marvel comic packs at wholesale outlets or other venues? Wondering if those things are still out there floating around or am I chasing ghosts.
  18. Here's a new one for me: I met up with a woman who was selling a few tubs of comics from Facebook. She was asking $500 - which I thought was of course going to be too high - but there were a few decent things sitting on top so why not go try my luck? I get there and she's with an older guy who's there to, "make sure I wasn't a weirdo." Fair enough. She tells me right away she's firm on price. Knowing that, I tell her I'll pull the decent stuff out as I'm going through so in case we don't end up making a deal, she'll have it up front for the next person. I go through all the books and have good conversation with both her and the dude. There's nothing amazing - I think the best book was that Adam Hughes Dirty Pair variant. I explain why $500 is too much for me to pay and tell her the reasoning. She's comes back with $250. I say sold! But then the guy makes this hand signal and says, "You know what? I'll just take it for $500." We were both shocked because this dude didn't care about the comics and repeatedly told us so. They were also friends so it was even more strange. I look at the woman and tell her how stoked I am she got full price and tell the dude that what he did was bad form - not because I missed out on the books but for wasting all of our time standing around while I sorted the stuff that he intended to buy. I'm still annoyed by it.
  19. Thanks for removing that temptation and grats to both of you on the sale.
  20. Brapret58. New account with 0 feedback sent an offer and then promptly disappeared when time to pay. Gave them over a week and still no reply to messages.
