It's a well stoked fear that more homeless people will somehow translate into more people desperate for valuables and they'll resort to home invasions. I understand people's concerns but find it curious since nearly every single case of documented comic theft from conventions and comic shops and never homeless people but upper middle class people who know the hobby and have eBay accounts, etc. They can afford to travel to shows, travel to different states, hit stores, hit cons, etc. etc. etc. But sure, it's homeless people you've got to worry about.

Is anyone suggesting homeless people stole the comics?

Also, an increase in homelessness DOES translate to more crime in an area.  There's lots and lots of nuance regarding that increase but it's real.

I'd say about 0%. Even if they cancel it, it's probably been reported to the IRS already. It's on you to list the deductions and cancellations on your taxes.

I did a decent job of record keeping the last few years so I'm not too worried...it's more the sudden 1099 when I thought I was just under the limit.

  3. So what are my chances in getting eBay to cancel this 1099?  I've picked through all of this and I should have never received one because they're counting cancelled and non paying listings in their totals.

I'm guessing somewhere between zero and Nelson pointing and laughing?

CL pays retail and CGC doesn't. Shipping through CGC was considerably more pre-Blackrock acquisition. Also, CL is probably baking in cost of supplies in their shipping where CGC could be considering that into their cost to slab. But I think the not paying retail is where the majority of the savings come from. I doubt CL is making much, if anything, from shipping charges. The cost of shipping these days is outrageous and getting more so every day it seems.

I don't think there's any world where shipping one slab should be $65 unless is 25k+ and registered.  Even then, I think it's cheaper.

A slab that's well packed is about what? $16 retail with no paypal/ebay/pirateship discount?  Cheaper if using literally ANY merchant account for shipping.

  5. I should have been more clear.  When I did the report for paid and shipped sales from 1/1/22 to 12/31/22, I was at about 19k.  Their report/1099 is showing me at 23k.  When I switch my search to all orders in the same time period, I get a still different number (but over 20k).  I'm trying to wrap my head around the discrepancies and also determine if I was sent a 1099 by mistake.

The more I look at their 1099, the less it makes sense.  Their monthly breakdowns are not possible with the amount I sold, even accounting for potential fees being added.  Anyone else having something similar or am I just really thinking about this in the wrong way?

Some of us even predicted this drop.  The conversation below was about X-Men #1 in 2.0.  People called me crazy for thinking the price would drop.  It peaked over $10k, and this month the low was $6200.  I'm thinking we haven't seen the bottom yet.  (Same applies to all grades of this book.)

For most of 2020, that book was in the low to mid 3000s.  So ignoring the insanity of that books run-up in 2021, it's still sitting at what?  75ish% increase from that time?  That's huge!

I started making a concerted effort to list a few new books every day, starting a few days ago - I solely do BINs with a Best Offer option. Yesterday, I had a flurry of activity and have had 6 offers - all of which I plan to accept, just waiting a bit within the offer windows in case someone else comes along with a higher offer or BIN - and one BIN sale. I don't have a lot of high-dollar listings, but the sales in the past day will be around $230, and my cost on those books was less than $50. It does seem like there's a benefit to listing consistently, because I'm listing things in similar titles and quality to what I've done in the past when I listed more sporadically and let things sit. I don't currently have a storefront, I'd consider myself a "hobby seller" - I have about 50 books currently listed. I'm also pretty aggressive on the "Send Offer" options when they appear.

+1 on that.  When I'm listing consistently, more eyes land on items, which leads to more eyes on my other inventory, which leads to more sales.  It's been GREAT the last month.  Not late 2021/early 2022 great but it's finally picking back up.  Like others have said, I did have to drop prices by 10%+.  I still have about 15+ short boxes of books to list but I just can't find the time and it sucks to miss windows on hot books.

  8. I'm finding it harder to find the time to sell as my work has become more time consuming and my son was born.  I'm definitely not doing this as efficiently as I could be but I'm struggling to find ways to make more of my time while still being considerate to buyers in my listings (grading, good scans, lists of defects).  I keep toying with the idea of just shipping off short boxes at a time to MCS but, I don't know...That removes part of the fun of the hobby.
