USPS… where packages go to get stolen, with no trace and no accountability!

    gimme FEDEX any day

We're in completely different realities.  I've lived a lot of places - coast to coast - and USPS has been great everywhere  Had one package lost that was heading to me and had one package go missing in the almost 20 years I've been buying and selling comics online.

FedEx has been so consistently horrible that I'm struggling to imagine where they would be useable.

Clink buys full price postage and insurance from USPS direct. Like it's super easy to get discounted rates, but they refuse. It's the dumbest thing ever.

I just assumed they had a discount rate because of the volume they ship.  Wowwww.  That's even dumber than I thought.

I mean, you can get a deeper discount than that just by using Pirateship.  So odd.

I have collected Golden Age raw low- to mid-grade copies, give or take 3.5 to 7.5, for around 20 years. I may purchase three, four, or five issues a year. From around 1970, as a kid, to around 2000 I collected the highest grade raw copies I could afford but prices started to get relatively very high, not that for me they were not already high, so I adapted. I have only purchased a few CGC graded GA comic books over the years. One is 9.4 purchased slabbed, one 7.5, purchased raw, the others are between 6.0 to 7.0 all purchased slabbed.

Perhaps raw GA is an option for you. Of course, depending on the book and especially grade even raw GA is relatively very expensive with some issues even at, for example, 1.5 being for me extremely expensive.

Like most things that seem expensive, if I avoided the random $100-$200 books I pick up and saved instead, a big purchase would take less of a bite to my comics budget.

I'm nearly done with a silly collecting focus and get to free up funds for more serious books.

even low grade raw, the books I’m after are in the 2k-5k range. Expensive tastes 💅

  4. I started out buying from the gas station and grocery store and eventually moved up to only LCS’s, chasing Wizard top 10 books and general stupid 90s buying. Long since sold all those OO books.

moved on to dollar bin digging and flea  markets. Now I’m in the camp of being picky about what I buy and how much I pay and really only buy books to flip and then use that money to buy collections or auction house stuff for the PC. I bought a 10,000 books collection last year and kept literally 6 comics.

Im making more money than I ever have and am more picky that ever before.

  5. I’m 40 and have wanted to get into golden books since my first megacon in 2008. I still regret not buying that chamber of chills 19 for $600.

However I drug my feet on the books I wanted and now kinda feel priced out. There’s plenty of interest - especially in pre code horror - from all age groups. Maybe the more esoteric books will take a dip but I very much doubt the floor will fall out on them.

These came from an ask at a garage sale - guy said he had some comics, and told me to come back in 20 minutes after they finished setting up and he would bring them out - glad I circled back.

Came out to a little over $2 per book

2 of the Dark Knights #1s are first prints - other two are second prints

    Nice!

the one I went to in mid city advertised comics and then had none when I got there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  7. I’m a big cheerleader for consigning with MCS. That’s been my go to for all books over $100 for a few years now.

Never sold through clink but from my buying my experience, they’re consistently getting well below GPA for the things I’m after. So add that to your equation.

I’ve sold a decent amount on r/comicswap on Reddit but it’s a small amount of eyes on your stuff

I absolutely hate selling on Facebook. It’s such a nightmare of the worst type of comic people. I know some people who exclusively sell there with positive results but I’m not a fan.

Sold through Heritage but I never have stuff good enough to offset how high their consignment %.

You can send this back to us as a mechanical error, as long as you do so within 14 days of receiving it.  After you complete a submission form, a prepaid shipping label will be sent to you through our website.  (not by e-mail)  If you live outside the US, one would have to be sent to you manually.   When you ship it, send me a PM with the tracking number and the packing slip number.  Be sure to put exactly what the problem is on the packing slip.

Thank you for that but it’s not really an ME, right? I mean, the book is destroyed.

I caught a Fedex driver filling out the "we tried to deliver sticker" before he had even knocked on my door.  I guess he was assuming that no one was going to be home.

Mine was finally delivered yesterday. Wife caught him walking away from out door and had just left it there without a signature. Nice work, FedEx.

  10. Got my first taste of a properrrrr CGC screw up.

The Black Panther was a throw in book so it didn’t mean much to me but had it pegged as a rock solid 9.8. When it got a 9.4 with indentions I thought that was strange. Got it back and looked it over and there’s not a single indentions on this book. Howeverrrrr, the spine was pinched in the inner well during encapsulation and caused the cover to pull off the staples during shipping. Nice!

The SS 44 came back and try to guess what the grade is? I’ll post it after. This book did not have these crazy waves when it went out.

@CGC Mike any guidance for this?

  11. I’m stuck in a stupid FedEx loop. Now on the 2nd attempt even though my wife is home all day. Have never had a problem with the drivers not being to get into the building and suddenly it’s a problem. @CGC Mike I know this is impossible but could you please pass along how awful FedEx is? Not having other carrier options is absurd.
