  1. Just one book here: Uncanny X-Men #266 'Newsstand Edition' VF/NM--> SOLD

Really nice copy here: sharp corners, dark/deep colors and good gloss; most defects are non-color-breaking, including some light creasing to the front and back covers and non-color-breaking spine creases on the back cover spine; only a few very light spine stress lines to the front cover spine. As is, I think VF/NM is fair, but I think a good clean and press could definitely bring this up to NM- or NM, if that's your thing.

  2. Hey all! Here are the rules:

    - First 'take it' trumps all negotiations

    - Shipping is $5 (US buyers only, but if you are from Canada, PM me and maybe we can work something out); (+$5 extra for Priority)

    - Accepted forms of payment: Zelle and Venmo are preferred, by I will also accept PayPal if you can't do the others

    - I ship USPS Ground Advantage (Priority upon request); will ship and provide tracking within 2 days of receiving payment

    - Returns accepted within 2 weeks of receipt of books

    - No one on the naughty lists; also, I reserve the right to request kudos or not sell to someone with little or no activity/feedback

    - I'm still pretty new here, but feel to check out my fledgling kudos thread and attached eBay link!

Other than that, feel free to reach out with any questions or to request more pictures! Thanks for looking!

  3. Here's a fun fact: Since June 29, 2021, there have been no new 9.9/10.0 (in Universal label) for Spawn #1--over 10k copies graded total, including nearly 4k 9.8's (more than 1/3 of the total 9.8 population). Pretty wild to me, considering there were 75 in the 14k copies graded before that date. CGC real stingy with those Mint grades in the current era (at least for non-brand-new books).

I'd guess part of it is just due to the sheer volume of books the graders have to get through on a daily basis--no time to stop and really look closely enough at a really pristine book to see if it could be better than 9.8. Nice enough to be 9.8? On to the next...

Could also be a market adjustment.  I know a guy that is not even into comics that has 50 copies of ASM 252 an 50 copies of Secret Wars 8 that have been in box since they were released.  They look to be easy 9.4-9.8's.  There are MANY copies out there of this book and ASM 300 btw... yet still people have treated them like some unicorn in the wild.  I own a 9.8 and I do not even think it should be commanding this much money.

Yeah both this and SW8 are due for major drops. Two of the most overrated and overpriced copper keys (and most abundant overall and in high grade). Definitely some market adjustment on this, but I think the seller's bad rating and the obvious defects (bad damage to top edge, plus TWO chipped corners BC lol) all combined to tank this particular copy. TBH with that top edge damage it shouldn't have gone for half that, but just goes to show how many people buy the slab and not the book.

That said, I believe this sale is a bit of a temporary outlier due to above reasons and not a fallout from the scam. I think in this forum sandbox (or Insta or FB, etc.) it's easy to forget how many people are out there buying slabs that don't care about a scam that only directly affected a relatively small subset of the slab-purchasing population. Perhaps it'll make people look a touch more closely at the slabs they are buying (not a bad thing), but I doubt long-run this is going to ruin CGC's reputation to the point that people will stop buying slabs altogether. Some people will get out, some people may stop buying/selling/subbing...but will it be a significant enough portion to ding high-grade slab sales? My personal opinion is it won't. That person who's been saving up for three years to buy an ASM 252 9.8 because it's a book they've most wanted to own...is still gonna buy that ASM 252 9.8. (But hopefully they'll look a little closer at the scans this time...)

I found interesting of the 2 unique reviews one was to a comic shop on ebay that was 20 minutes aways.

ComicBookStation is a legit comic book store in Brooklyn. I've never been, but I'm pretty sure they buy and sell slabs pretty regularly. Probably just a coincidence they purchased one of his books (New York is a very big place lol).

EDIT: Sorry, I misread the reference to this store. Yeah, if zaneglor bought from them on eBay, I suppose it would check out that they'd likely have that address from their history

  6. Unfortunately if he bought a slabbed sub-9.8 MJ, it could easily have been bought offline at a show, in an offline auction, at a LCS, etc. So trying to find the specific MJ that was swapped is going to be tricky, as eBay/Heritage/etc. probably only accounts for a small amount of the potential sold population. If it was bought at a show or LCS, hopefully the seller/owner is aware of the videos and may recognize the book they sold.

I am super happy with the X-Men #121 I purchased. It arrived exactly like it did in the pics and extra, extra care had been taken to make sure it arrived safe (thumbsu

Im glad you like it! If you wouldn’t mind posting this in my Kudos Thread I’d very much appreciate it 🙏

  8. Maybe a stupid question, but I haven't found a good answer. What exactly is 'gloss' and how does a comic lose it over time? I ask because I've been getting some early 80's X-Men books from an original owner, and the covers are some of the brightest I've seen. That said, the PQ is OW/W for most of them (in my eyes). Does gloss/brightness depend on when the comics were printed (i.e. how much ink was left)? Or is it more about exposure factors over time, such as exposure to moisture and sun? Is gloss just related to the brightness of the inks or is there some other factor that makes a comic 'glossy' off the press?

Again, apologies if this is a 'newb' question or if the answer is really obvious. Was just curious, since I see the words 'glossy' pop up a lot in relation to old books and don't really know how to qualify that other than 'you know it when you see it'.

  9. Not sure the best place to ask this, but I figured this would be as good a place as any: what's the deal with the Third Printing of the Special Origin Issue? By that, I mean, what's the story? I haven't been able to find out a lot of information about it. I'm mostly curious about where/why it was published, why there is no UPC or price, and why they seem to be so scarce (like, more-so than even Newsstands and Six Flags issues). Does anyone know anything about this? Publication date is over a year after the free comic book day printing and 9 months after the Six Flags giveaway, which I always thought was kinda weird. Was it a promo released when Return of the Joker came out? Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks! (*note- posted this question in another thread but never got a response so figured I'd try re-posting it here)

  10. I believe BKV said something to the effect of he wouldn't consider selling the rights until after the story was finished. I could see this getting made one day, but probably not until after the run is over (still a long way to go, since I believe it's supposed to be around 120 issues). Maybe by then it'll be cheaper and more realistic to produce something like this, especially considering how far TV and movie production has come just in the last ten years.

    Modern Fast-Track Press and Grade:

    - Received CCS 11/15

    - CCS in process 11/21

    - Received for grading 11/27

    - Scheduled for grading 11/27

    -GEI 11/30

Was cruising along til now. Still two more days to hit expected TAT, but I’m not getting my hopes up based on what I’ve seen here. Seems like GEI (which I would expect to be one of the faster steps) is the new SFG when it comes to delays 😒

    -G/QC 12/13

After getting stuck in GEI for a bit, looks like this is moving again. Hopefully will ship by end of the week. I will say, customer service was great when I contacted them. I didn't ask for a refund (just wanted an update since I hadn't hit TAT for Fast-Track and it was only a couple days past) but they refunded the 'grading' portion of the fast-track fees anyway and were quick to respond, transparent, and kind. Used the text chat, which is a nice option to have.

I also had another order that was in SFG for like two months ship today, so maybe stuff is starting to move again?

I suspect you mean the eBay settings, especially shipping rules, always tricky.

If you're not already making labels with Pirate Ship, I would suggest using that. Much better than EBay Shipping.

Seconded on using Pirateship. Started using them earlier this year and haven't looked back. At the very least I'd say use them for slabbed books, where the insurance may end up mattering (and less than 1% the worth of the book is fairly cheap in my mind).
