  1. Nice! Those Speed comics are so hard to find. Great pick up!
  2. Holy guacamole! What a friggin awesome set of comics! I'm speechless As for the display itself, what a beautiful piece of work! I think you may have just come up with a great side business for high end collectors. Not that I could afford such an awesome display...but me wants it VERY BADLY!
  3. Wow, Rick! Those covers are beautiful. Great pick-ups! Anything else exciting in the OO collection? If they're anything like these, they've gotta be "must have's"! Congrats!
  4. Mmm...love me some All Star Westerns! ...The Bats ain't so bad either Looks like you all had a great time. I'm so envious. Thanks for sharing!
  5. Don't be coy, that's a beautiful book! I've got a bunch of the Strange Adventures run, and there are some great covers and decent stories in them. Great pick up!
  6. Wow! If that interior was on the front cover, I bet this book would be red hot to all the cover collectors out there. Very cool.
  7. I love the blue cover. That's a beautiful book. Congrats!
  8. Wow! I just love this book. I'm pretty sure this is the one I got to see in person after the NC Comicon last year. It blew my mind away when I saw how nice it looked, and it still blows me away today. Nice! Definitely one of my favorite Cole covers!
  9. . I actually just Googled "comic book cover hurricane" and it was the 4th hit down in the list. I got lucky, I guess!
  10. I think I've got it... Classics Illustrated #120 - "The Hurricane"
  11. Very cool! Thanks for pointing out the War Heroes series to me (not seen it before, but I'm just starting to try to learn more about the early Golden Age war comics.) These back covers are sweet! Each of the three captures a compelling message and perspective on the challenges of the time period. I really do dig the painted covers, and these are no exception. And, speaking of painted covers, this one arrived at my doorstep just today (I'm now halfway complete with my War Comics / War Stories run):
  12. Great piece about Stoner. I especially got a kick out of the Gordon's Gin ad from Ebony Magazine that pictured Stoner and his wife at home. Link Here are a few of Stoner's illustrations to jog everyone's memories about his work. Witches Tales #1 (November 1936) The Funnies # 45 (July 1940) The Funnies # 46 (August 1940) The Funnies #47 (September 1940) The Funnies #48 (October 1940) As comixnoir mentioned in the "cover ONLY" thread, this guy definitely had a wardrobe malfunction That said, I really enjoyed digging up this post and reading about EC Stoner and his historical significance in comics. I also recently picked up a few War Comics / War Stories (Dell), and the "Night Devils" stories are really quite good. Though Stoner didn't do the cover on this one...: He did do the interiors and his Night Devils art and stories were compelling enough for me and the characters seemed very cool.
  13. One of my favorites is Eagle Comics #1: Here's Eagle Comics #2 as well. Not quite as impressive a cover, but cool nonetheless:
  14. Sharon was kind enough to support me through my first sale on the board. She was extremely polite, a pleasure to talk to, and quickly made payment. She even suggested that I start a feedback thread (which I hadn't thought of) and had posted feedback on it before I could even blink. What a classy and genuinely nice person to work with! This community is so lucky to have her!
  15. Nice book and great pick-up! I hope you took the time to read it before you sent it off for resto. So few of us will ever get to hold one of those in our hands and flip through the pages. I hope to get there someday! I hope you'll share the pics when you get the book back. I'd love to see the before and after shots. Congratulations!
  16. Nice pick up! I just love the late Sensation WW issues, and this one's definitely near impossible to find in high grades. Having the highest on the CGC Census is just an added bonus (thumbs u Love it!
  17. Wow, that Pep #34 is plain out gruesome. Certainly not what you'd expect out of a comic that's known for Archie. Great pick up!
  18. Master Comics #11 Yep, that's definitely Master Comics #11. Good eye! I knew that one looked familiar.
  19. Here's what I got right out of the box with the HP ScanJet 8300. There's certainly a little reflection in the label and at the bottom a bit, but I think it takes an overall great scan. I haven't played with any settings at all, and the DPI is only 200. I'll be playing with the settings next. Here's another:
  20. ComicConnect has a bunch of key WW comics for sale or at upcoming auction. Here's a quick list: All-Star #8 CGC 4.5 Blue Label (auction) All-Star #8 CGC 5.0 Blue Label All-Star #8 CGC 3.5 Blue Label Sensation #1 CGC 7.0 Blue Label Sensation #1 CGC 4.0 Blue Label Sensation #1 CGC 3.0 Blue Label WW #1 CGC 7.0 Blue Label (auction) WW #1 CGC 7.5 (restored) WW #1 CGC 5.0 Blue Label WW #1 8.0 (restored) I guess I'm surprised that there are so many key WW books for sale in one place. I realize that there's a decent number on the CGC Census, but this still seems like a lot to hit the market (even with some fairly steep pricing on some). Since I own a Sensation #1, I guess I'm a little disheartened with the supply, but maybe I'll get a good chance to swipe up one of the other two key books I need!
  21. Wow! Beautiful book. Congratulations! WW #1 is near the top of my want list, and it looks like you found a great copy. The colors are rich and it displays really well. Awesome.
