  1. 1) Those buttons dont trade very often, but aren't particularly well known either. I'd say probably within the $100-$200 range? 2) Ive seen sealed fanclub packets sell for $200. Much less if opened. 3) Not much. 4) This is worth the most out of what you listed. Average value for this book is $200-300ish. I've seen them go as far as $500 but not recently. 5) Which ones? This all ofcourse comes wit the caviat that everything is only worth what people will pay for it. So please don't take these values as absolute truth. If youre interested in selling those buttons, I'm interested in buying them.
  2. Not a chance. Because they had a relationship with the original printer, there would be no reason for them to make counterfeits (should they have wanted to be shady). They wouldn't go through the trouble of making new books with slight variations when they could just as easily just made more "first print" issues using the original printer.
  3. Indeed. Until someone breaks the reserve, I'm not going to get my hopes up.
  4. That was indeed the sale price. You couldnt put it on. The moment you tried to move it, it would fall apart. Literally. I would price that suit as 4-6k as is, and about that much on top of it to restore. The boxes contain Kevin's sample collection. Meaning that when a company made anything TMNT related, they would send him one, and it would go into these boxes. No comics (especially THAT one) are in this auction.
  5. Sadly, Peter already said via his blog that he is keeping all the #1 first prints.
  6. For those of you keeping score (and I know a lot of you are): The other day, Peter Laird was talking about going through his archives. Which prompted me to ask about the number of TMNT #1 first prints he still had... and he responded: Anyway, thought it was interesting.
  7. I know not all of you frequent the OA forum, so I wanted to post a link to this thread. Kevin gifted me the OA for the cover of Gobbledygook #2 http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4344424#Post4344424
  8. While on the East Coast for NYCC, I had the opportunity to visit the house where Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created the Ninja Turtles. You can find my post about it on the blog :-) http://gogreenmachine.org/?p=3781 Hope you enjoy it :-)
  9. Yeah Pete, sucks we didn't find eachother. I just bought a frame for it, so I measured it. It's 24x20 As for the silver, the only reason I call $600 a steal is because the last 3 times Ive seen one pass hands it was for $1000 or slightly above.
  10. Yeah, Motor City bought out Brian Tetge's collection. Lots of #1's (they had two 9.6's and a 9.4 SS Kevin copy), tons of CaW OA, lots of other misc OA (like the reprint cover to #7). They even have a graded Turtlemania Silver for $600 (if you're looking for one, I'd call them like...yesterday. $600 for that book is a steal). While they have plenty of really impressive pieces, thee wasnt much there that either interested or that I didn't have. However, there was one thing that I picked up out of that collection. It was tucked away behind one of their displays. I was lucky to have even seen it. I've been looking for an authentic copy of this for the better part of 5 years: This is a con exclusive lithograph from 1995. 29/60. Signed by the Mirage staff in pencil. I wish this photo had a size reference, cause it's huge. I'll take better photos of it once I've decompressed from the convention. While a lot of the stuff they had was "collector" priced, I think I got a good deal for this piece. A note to those of you searching for this, keep in mind that at subsequent conventions, Mirage sold a much smaller print of this litho (roughly 8.5x11). So if you run across one, make sure you know what youre buying (I've seen people mistakenly pay hundreds for that second print).
  11. yup, thats correct. There is no various shades of black on that cover. All the black is the same black.
  12. Most of the subtle clues that it would be fake are hard to spot from a photo. The variation in red tone could easily just be the photo. How is the black on the book? Is there any bluish hue to it? Many of the counterfeits were obviously printed on the cheap, so the blacks are not "deep black"
  13. Thats a totally fair question. I started out as a huge fan. But my collecting and fandom led us to end up around eachother alot (appearing in interviews and documentaries together, etc) and a legitimate friendship grew out of that.
  14. Hi everyone. I'd like to talk about something that I actually had decided I was not going to announce. However; recent events have changed my mind. Yesterday via facebook, I had put up a picture of the gifts I have purchased for my groomsmen. In that photo I tagged each of my guys. A number of you noticed that I tagged Kevin Eastman in that photo and came to me with questions. Which has led me to post about it. In January I had asked Kevin if he would do me the great honor of being my best man at my upcoming wedding. I actually didn't think I had much of a chance. However; to my elated surprise, he said yes. On October 22nd, I will be wed to the love of my life, and I could not be happier that Kevin will be by my side when I do. I originally had decided that I was not going to publicize this information (aside from a select few of you that I hold dear to me), as I never wanted this wedding to be about Kevin being involved. This day belongs to my future wife and myself, and I didn't want that to be clouded by "OMG Kevin Eastman"! It didn't even occur to me what I was revealing when I tagged him in that photo. But anyway, now you know. Steph
  15. Hey everyone. Today I obtained what is for me, my holy grail. Barbaric Fantasy #1 and Ten Penny Funnies #1-8. What do they have to do with TMNT? They are Peter Lairds absolutely first comic works, ranging from 1972-78. These books have remained unseen by the collecting community for over 30 years, as they were self published and done in impossibly small print runs. Ton of pics and information on them HERE
  16. Got my commission from Mark Martin today. Yes...It is a dinner plate. http://gogreenmachine.org/?p=3562
  17. Here is a super fun find! This is a 1988 print of Godzilla and foes, created by the Mirage artists! More info here: http://gogreenmachine.org/?p=3537
  18. An incredible amount of patience, a considerable amount of money, and even more luck.
  19. It's weird seeing it in someone elses hands. But I'm super pleased those hands are yours bro. Don't forget the certificate is on the backside of the board. Oh and incase i didn't mention it, you are going to want to keep that fedex envelope for authentication purposes as that was the envelope it shipped to me from Mirage in (its got their shipping into and stuff on it)
  20. Thanks bends. You certainly helped in part to making this deal happen ;-) Also, I just spoke to the CGC. They will indeed grade the book.
  21. To be fair, Danny and I have been going back and fourth on this sale since the day HE acquired it, so it isn't as sudden as it seems. As for grading...Probably. My silver is graded, so as long as the CGC agrees to grade it, I'll probably send it in. Though you never know what they will and won't grade when it comes to this kind of book, so here is hoping.
  22. I am pleased to announce a historic change in ownership. Danny Merced and I have come to an agreement for his copy of Turtlemania Gold. As of yesterday, his copy is now my copy. It is one of 3 currently known copies of the book. While I will not discuss the details of our agreement, you can read all about the book here: http://gogreenmachine.org/?p=3001
  23. Just wanted to share my newest Pre-Mirage Laird find. I guess technically this belongs in an indy comics thread, but I know you guys appreciate this kinda historical stuff! http://gogreenmachine.org/?p=3383
