  1. I'm pretty sure their reputation is more valuable to them than that. Especially with as publicized as these books are. Part of the reason why I decided to show them now is so people would see I did this before the others were distributed, so there would be less of a chance of someone crying foul over the yellow labels.
  2. No, just these four. These four didn't come from the 400 that are going to the distributor, but came from Kevin's personal allotment from IDW, and were sketched in front of a CGC witness.
  3. I see what you did there! You may not be able to find blanks of this particular variant as they were designed to have Kevin's sketches on them already upon leaving the distributor. The Detroit Fanfare and NECRA variant covers are sketch covers though :-) These particular 4 1:50's are going to be special. Rather than being sketched and sent to the distributor, they were sketched by Kevin at LBCC in front of a CGC witness. So these may be the only 4 to get signature series instead of green label.
  4. So after checking with the people I needed to check with, I got the ok to show these (since they actually haven't been shipped yet). New to my collection, these are 1:50 sketch variants, signed and sketched by Kevin. If you look carefully, these particular 4 line up. Not realizing this at the time of the photo, I put them in the wrong order. As they are now, the correct order should be 3,4,1,2. These books are currently at the CGC being graded, but I will take more photos when they return. (The orange dots just happen to be on the poly bags that they are in)
  5. Wow, way to completely dump on something someone was really excited about. You're awesome. Most collectors don't collect Kevin's signature for value, because you're right; Kevin's signature isn't worth much. But it has never been worth much. Why? Because he is awesome. He signs whatever anyone wants him to sign for free. He hasn't missed an SDCC in something like 20 years. He does free sketches for anyone that wants one. Hell, at my wedding he was doing sketches for little kids on napkins. Is his signature worthless? Sure is. But only because he is one of the most approachable artists in the business. And I'm pretty ok with that. Well nobody really cracks SS books because as soon as you do, they aren't SS anymore. But aside from that, they put microchamber paper between the covers (which is essentially a paper towel), so it isn't likely that the ink would continue to bleed that far IMO. Most SS collectors collect SS for a fourth reason actually. Because they love it. Sorry for the rant, but everything about this post got completely under my skin.
  6. Hey gang, I'm looking for the Newsstand version of IDW's TMNT #1. Info can be found here. Let me know if you have one you want to part with: http://www.tmnt-ninjaturtles.com/blog/?p=527
  7. Me too. Please PM me. Although I do not want to pay $250 like the one now on ebay. Thanks. $250 is probably cheap in all honesty with the prices for other TMNT hardcovers listed for more and not as limited. It won't help that IDW confirmed with me via e-mail that they sold out at the show.
  8. I had seen Kevin do a similar sketch at another signing, and I was jealous, so this time around I requested the foot in the blade :-)
  9. As promised, the standard edition: I've also submitted something really special for SS grading. But I've decided to keep it under wraps until I get them back.
  10. Back from LBCC. This is the Con Exclusive Hardcover Ultimate Edition Volume 1 they were selling at IDW. The Regular and con exclusive versions are identical except the regular cover is colored. Edition size is 250. Price point of $50. Contains 1-7 and the Raphael 1 shot. They also had advance copies of the standard edition. I picked up a copy, but Kevin stole it from me to doodle in, so I will show it to you guys as soon as he gives it back to me.
  11. Is anyone going to the VA Comic Con? There is an exclusive IDW TMNT #3 variant I'm trying to get.
  12. point of interest for those following the new book. Tom Waltz (primary writer) showed off the third printing of #1 (before the second printing has even streeted), as well as announced that #2 will be seeing three print runs as well. I'm very happy this book seems to be doing so well! Tom regularly posts on the Technodrome forums. If you aren't a member, you should probably go fix that. http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/index.php
  13. Not sure. That book has been in my collection for quite awhile. I just recently had it SSed.
  14. So as of tonight I have completed a collection I've been working on for a couple years now. The first appearances of all of the (whom I feel to be) significant characters that crossed over with the TMNT. From left to right: Cerebus #1 (First app of Cerebus) Albedo #2 (First app of Stan Sakai's Usagi) Visions #1 (First app of Bob Burden's Flaming Carrot) Megaton 2 and 3 (There is some debate as to which is the first app of Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon, so I went with both :-P) Hooray!
  15. He still draws, but seldom books. He is an official artist for the Rat Fink estate, so he does that. Professionally these days you're more likely to see him directing animation or story boarding.
  16. So here is something kinda fun. I have the distinct honor of being friends with Ken Mitchroney (Original TMNTA artist). We became fast friends through the Turtles fandom, and later were co-workers at the Walt Disney company. Kenny hadn't been on the inside of SDCC for something like 20 years. He decided to attend as a fan this year, and we spent most of one of the days walking the floor together. Then an idea struck me... Ken had brought me some books as a gift, one of which happened to be a copy of TMNTA #3 (the first Turtles book he drew). So I drug him by the CGC booth and we had it SSed. Despite the grade (as I said, this wasn't a planned thing, so I didn't have a chance to hunt down a high grade), this book is really special to me as this is the one and only SSed Ken Mitchroney book (as of this post):
  17. I think it is a little early to tell. I like Dan Duncan's art...but I think the first issue was paced a little slowly...Not very much happened... As for covers...yes, there are 12. IDW is going to have to be careful if they are planning on keeping up so many variant covers per issue. Otherwise they're going to poison the well.
  18. Hey gang, I've been away from the board for no significant reason other than absentmindedness ;-) First off, Congrats on the award Adam! Second, a few pages back someone was asking about Ten Penny Funnies. Here is a piece I authored a year ago about my copies. It contains scans: TenPenny Funnies @ GoGreenMachine.org Thirdly, Re: The Birds, the Bees, and the Turtles. Bill Fitts (who worked for Mirage back in the day) authored the book as a going away gift when he left the company. We corresponded on a semi-regular basis for awhile. In his words: I own most of the OA for the book. You can check it out here: Comic Art Fans Wow, talk about under the radar. That's the first time I've seen the book sell for less than $500.
  19. Kevin hasn't missed an SDCC for something like 20 years. Heh.
  20. Was able to cross one of my indy comic grails off the list today! Abyss #1, Stephen Bissette's first work. 200 copies printed in 1976. This is the first one I've ever seen for sale.
  21. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the pricing when the property peaks again in a year or two with the new show/movie. Not only will we have new 4th generation fans, but the nostalgia should bring new blood to the adult collector circle as well.
  22. So who is going to SDCC? Thought I'd ask this thread in particular...seeing as you are the ones I'd be most excited to see <3
  23. True story. I bought my 7 for about that. Although also true story that finding tmnt #1 in "mid-grade" shape is pretty tough. I usually either find them really nice, or really crappy.
  24. So lets see em' Adam! All one picture or it didn't happen
