  1. I want a second opinion! As the immortal Bugaboo would say: "Shut yer piehole tulip". If he wanted to say it to me, he should say it to me personally!
  2. Sterling, hey, I beat you here by three days. I was referred here by Burntboy when he told me in an e-mail that I could get advice here after being ripped off big time on an ASM #1. If I hadn't been ripped off, I may have never found this place. May even be worth that $1,500 loss. I recall that thread. I remember giving you a warm BOC welcome. I remembered that you wanted to reserve judgement until you heard the seller's side! You are correct Gregory, I did wait. And then I heard the seller's BS words over and over again dozens of times. My side was right, his was wrong, but I at least reserved judgment until after he spoke his many lies. Hard to be in the middle when a seller advertises an unrestored 7.0 and then you receive a restored 4.5. You may have heard the seller's side but we never did. What's the difference between what you did and what others have done on the board? How do you know what the others who complain haven't heard the "BS" from the other side? It's ironic that we are supposed to know that you were "right" ONLY in your case! But, I'm sure your situation was WAY different. P.S. Isn't it time to post in the shrukenhead thread stating that "bargainbox" needs to comment before we label him a deadbeat? Gregory, I never said there was any difference regarding what others have done on the board, and I see nothing wrong with what others do on the board. It is with the one-sided jury (all of us) that I sometimes have a problem with. I don't speak up as a "middle-man" on threads where it is obvious that somebody was ripped off. I speak up on some of the threads where it is NOT so obvious and where a difference of opinion can make a huge difference. When the facts by themselves are not enough. I stated my case on the boards here, way back when, and asked others for advice on how to handle the situation. This was not the case of a he said/he said different view of things. This was a case of outright fraud. Advertising one thing, and then delivering another. Quite different kind of case than customer service and shipping policies. Had this seller just been naive and unable to grade and/or notice obvious restoration, then he could have refunded me and all would be well. But this guy knew exactly what he was doing and purposely commited fraud in an Ebay listing. There is a big difference between fraud and the gray areas regarding shipping and handling policies. I haven't read that other bargainbox thread yet. I also only get involved in a few threads here and there that stick out to me for some reason. I have no need or interest to add any input to every little problem that pops up. BUT, if I see the Lynch Mob getting ready to go out and hang somebody, over an instance where hearing the other side may very well make a difference (a gray area) then I am more prone to getting involved to try to mellow people out a little and try to get them to at least wait for the other side before stringing up the noose. If the other side is unavailable for comment, at least it is fair to think about what their side might be. Too many innocents have been hanged in the past, I hate to see it continue, but it does. So, one rule for you and one for everyone else? How do we know that it's a fraud? Was the seller convicted or charged? Wasn't it only YOUR opinion? Spin on Sid! I'm sure you'll respond to this but rational people already know the truth about your reasoning! You just had to respond to some innoculous comment that I made to BOC. I wonder why! Make your closing comments because there's really nothing more I need to say!
  3. Your judgement is implied in the statement. Not at all. I don't need tards like you talking down to me. Name-calling now huh? How pathetic that you can't even defend your opinions without resorting to grade school tactics. I can hardly wait to hear what other gem of insight you will come with when you relpy to this post.
  4. Just because I read the threads and remember your story I am actively tracking you? Or perhaps you are refering to the times when I was tracking auctions on Ebay and happened to notice that you won a couple of the items when you said on the boards you were trying to raise money for your family. It calls into question your integrity, since you obviously say one thing and then do the opposite. Which is fine if that is the way you want to lead your life, but don't attempt to act self-rightous about it.
  5. And then you took a totally unecessary and irrelevant low blow to Sterling's family situation, of which I was totally unaware (and probably have should remained so). Sterling, you have my sympathies on the the death of your stepfather. Truth be told, I've been none too happy about the tenor of the posts on this thread as of late. Seems like things are getting far too catty for my tastes, such as when I expressed my enthusiasm for my copy of Ghosts #1 only to have greggy try to take the pizz (well, I needed a reason to save money and not bid on his auctions anyway). As much as I love bronze horror, I think I'm probably checking out on this thread for a while anyway. See ya thin-skin.
  6. Don't cry Sterling. I was merely pointing out that you make a lot of stupid decisions. When you are selling off your collections in order to raise money to help family, why would you continue to bid and win auctions on Ebay? Doesn't seem very smart. Oh and Los Angeles isn't a two-bit town.
  7. I agree. It is your money and I cannot understand why so many people are interested in how you spend it. Other than stroking their own egos of course. If he chooses to post how he spends his money on a public forum, then he is allowing himself to subject to criticism. If he was so sensitive about his money away, he should have re-thought his post. I didn't judge him for it, I just stated that it was a chunk of change. He obviously felt the same and got defensive about it.
  8. You have no idea what you are talking about. ok, point made. Do you want to take 20 more posts and tell me more of your opinion? Seems rather redundant. What pisses me off is that I'm just communicating my grades, I feel like I'm being lectured about costs and using 9.2 as my low end grade. My logic works for me and I don't have to answer to the likes of this group. This whole thread is redundant, what's a few more posts. How many times do you guys regurgitate the same issues over and over again? Even that comment is redundant. If you don't like it, how about taking your arse to another thread Ooooh Big Bad Sterling and his horror thread. Watch out. BTW wasn't it you sterling who had to sell part of his collection to finance his Mom's health, but continued to buy books on Ebay? Or was that another classless horror collector?

  10. I think pre-grading is great also. Yet to have 30% of your books rejected seems like quite a bit to me. I can understand having a few books that don't make a cut-off grade due to missing something when you submit a book. Everybody has their own opinion, except Greggy, as to what is best for them. I just don't feel like throwing my money away on books that are rejected.
  11. The reason for the pre-grade is to improve my books I submit. If I put up scans of these books, some of the rejected books could be considered 9.0 by some. None of these books are clear losers. That's why I use pregrade. Bite me if you don't like it. Clearly the response of the weak. The only comment I made was that paying for 30% of your books to be rejected seemed excessive to me. Pre-grading is great for those people who don't have a clue how to grade their own books, or don't want to go through the trouble of doing it. If you don't mind throwing your money away, then by all means give it CGC.
  12. Do the math. Would I rather pay the reject fee or the slabbing fee for a grade that I can't possibly recover my slabbing fee? Sounds like a no-brainer to me. The price of not slabbing is education on my part so that I can continue to improve on books I submit. So, the fee, while not an optimal way of using my funds, is better than the next best alternative (as described previously). Makes sense? The math tells me that you should learn how to pre-grade yourself so that you don't have a 30% rejection rate. I would rather submit a couple test books to test my grading ability then to mass submit 100 books for the same purpose. Of course apparently you have money to burn, so burn away Nero, burn away.
  13. That's a chunk of change right there. Well, maybe for you... Comparatively speaking in terms of amounts I've paid for the books and the total of the order overall, it's mincenuts. ...And compared to the cost of slabbing a book < 9.0 puts you in the red very quickly (in terms of liquidity). Pregrade is good. I put many books that I thought were borderline--I played the game--and lost for the most part. My reject percentage on the next order will be much different. This order was about separating the keeps vs not-keeps. I'm selling hundreds of VF quality raw books shortly. Cleaning house... What does that mean Sterling? When you pay $200 for presub rejects, that seems like a waste of money to me or to anybody.
  14. how can you tell when noobies scan with their books still in the bag?
  15. Sweet - I just bumped up the bidding to $650!! Like his real max bid is $699! It could be..... What are you laughing at?
