  1. I am honestly astonished by the lack of resolution to this case. Like, there is so much money at stake here and I know I would personally be clawing at the walls if I lost high-dollar books like this.

Incidentally, I will be offering restoration services for high-value Golden Age comics. Just disregard my previous posts griping about how difficult it is to acquire GA books. It will in no way affect my operations :):):)

When I see non pedigrees like that I wonder where the heck it was all those years that it survived like that, and did it have company. Were there others like it. A book like that you would think was stored not only in consistent temperature and humidity conditions but probably in a folder or larger book or some sort of item that covered and protected it and maybe kept it flat. Even stored in a box for 80 years probably wouldn't keep it that pristine in most climates.

There's a collection coming to auction on Heritage in September. Girl found hundreds of high grade golden age books in her grandfather's feedstore. It's an unbelievable story. So no one knew about these books sitting there for 80 years, and they grade in the 8s and 9s?

Hah I never really noticed, won't see this one the same now ...I guess I should try to find the lipstickless OA instead of a copy of the comic, because it's otherwise great I think ...maybe it's a good thing I didn't find a copy yet.

We should start a thread for "glaring problems with comic covers that you didn't notice till after you bought a copy."

I've wanted an "overrated GA covers" thread for a while now just so I can smear acclaimed covers like Hit Comics #5 and Blue Bolt #111

EDIT: now that I think of it, there's a worse LB Cole cover, and it's Thrilling Crime Cases #49 with the half-asleep woman in the center

  4. We all know that the best-selling costumed guys were Captain Marvel, Superman, and Batman. They're extremely popular now, and it seems they were even in their formative years. How did other golden age material, currently hot among collectors like us, take in popular culture? Were the Nedor characters like Black Terror and Miss Masque household names? If you were to say "Fiction House" or "Planet Comics" to a young person on the street, would they have recognized that? Did the Human Torch, Submariner, and the Angel even hold a candle to Captain America in terms of recognition? Other than the most notables (Cap, Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel), what else were people talking about?

My understanding is that the most popular IPs at the time were the newspaper strip stuff.

There are dealers there who sell blowout sets of Broze, Copper and Modern titles. Silver not so much.

Guessing this means, transitively, that there isn't much golden age to go around at NYCC? I was interested in going, it would be my first con, and I'm interested in GA books.

I don't know. I'm aware of at least one other new collection coming to market soon that CGC is slapping pedigree labels on. Or at least a custom label, anyway. CGC is working all the angles to stick its brand wherever it can.

If we're thinking of the same one, the barn find right? Some woman found 800 of her granddad's GA comics, and I *think* they're going to auction later this year and getting a custom sticker.

  7. It's definitely not looking good for both Kamenliter and the guy who got his AF15 stolen (yes, stolen). The restorer doesn't seem to have been transparent at all to his customers, and there's no reason to explain why he has held onto clients' comics for extended periods of time, when he isn't even in a position to conduct operations. It sounds like he was always in over his head in starting this business. I'm unsure of recourse options, but I can say that the man's extenuating circumstances don't excuse thousands worth of cash and collectibles that he's withholding. Some in this thread have offered their positive experiences with him, but having done honest jobs doesn't preclude him from scamming people ever.
