I'm surprised news about this hasn't already made its way to the boards, but that will likely come closer to the September auction. The consigner (the original owner's granddaughter) has been giving updates on Reddit, and some scans of the 800+ comics have already been uploaded to HA. I, and likely others, have asked to privately buy one or two books, but she seemed intent on sending all of them to Heritage.

There will be a lot of offerings for the deep-pocketed! I'm priced out of any of the good content

When I see non pedigrees like that I wonder where the heck it was all those years that it survived like that, and did it have company. Were there others like it. A book like that you would think was stored not only in consistent temperature and humidity conditions but probably in a folder or larger book or some sort of item that covered and protected it and maybe kept it flat. Even stored in a box for 80 years probably wouldn't keep it that pristine in most climates.
There's a collection coming to auction on Heritage in September. Girl found hundreds of high grade golden age books in her grandfather's feedstore. It's an unbelievable story. So no one knew about these books sitting there for 80 years, and they grade in the 8s and 9s?

I just want to know where you keep finding these collections

I think I've also seen binder hole-punched Timely file copies get green labels when they're high grades (besides the three small holes of course)

30 year collector who started in my late teens. Be patient, be smart, with time it'll work out. College students should be scraping money together for beer. I had to give up for a few years while I was in school.
I hope you're onto something my man. I'd like to eventually have a nice collection of GA books

Hah I never really noticed, won't see this one the same now ...I guess I should try to find the lipstickless OA instead of a copy of the comic, because it's otherwise great I think ...maybe it's a good thing I didn't find a copy yet.
We should start a thread for "glaring problems with comic covers that you didn't notice till after you bought a copy."
I've wanted an "overrated GA covers" thread for a while now just so I can smear acclaimed covers like Hit Comics #5 and Blue Bolt #111
EDIT: now that I think of it, there's a worse LB Cole cover, and it's Thrilling Crime Cases #49 with the half-asleep woman in the center

Always thought this cover was ruined by Alan's stupid face

It's all very disheartening. As a college student "collector" of golden age books (putting in quotes because I only have a handful of GA), I feel as though I am priced out of most desirable superhero, horror, and science fiction. I think many people feel this way and that a high entry cost holds a lot of people back from collecting GA. They get a lot of love and interest from those who either love comics but don't collect or those who collect other eras that aren't Golden. My friend loves anti-Nazi covers and would almost certainly buy issues of Wonder Comics and Marvel Mystery if a 20-year-old could do such a thing. Even if you're a middle-aged adult, meaning access to more disposable income, you can't really put together a nice collection on a modest budget anymore. Some books are totally out of the question; Timelys and the like. I always feel as if I have to be hyper-selective with my purchases and do a lot of analysis before I buy. I've passed up several ebay auctions and board sales for that reason. With bronze age, unless it's key stuff like House of Secrets #92, if I want it I can buy it, and I could amass an extensive BA collection of Spiderman, X-Men, and the like if I really wanted to. PCH prices for books that used to be overlooked are stratospheric at this point.

There is no indication the book is lost, there is insurance coverage for any type of situation where the book is not where it's supposed to be. There is communication that's being left out. Just saying
"There is no indication the book is lost"?? Do you not know if you have it or not? Why are you using passive voice and indirect language? If I were an aggrieved client, I would think you sold my comic(s) for cash to float business expenses. It's a simple question really: do you or do you not have the mentioned books in your possession?

Do you have Weird Fantasy #18?

I never knew that the PL cover is a copy of a Captain America cover!

We all know that the best-selling costumed guys were Captain Marvel, Superman, and Batman. They're extremely popular now, and it seems they were even in their formative years. How did other golden age material, currently hot among collectors like us, take in popular culture? Were the Nedor characters like Black Terror and Miss Masque household names? If you were to say "Fiction House" or "Planet Comics" to a young person on the street, would they have recognized that? Did the Human Torch, Submariner, and the Angel even hold a candle to Captain America in terms of recognition? Other than the most notables (Cap, Superman, Batman, Captain Marvel), what else were people talking about?
My understanding is that the most popular IPs at the time were the newspaper strip stuff.

There are dealers there who sell blowout sets of Broze, Copper and Modern titles. Silver not so much.
Guessing this means, transitively, that there isn't much golden age to go around at NYCC? I was interested in going, it would be my first con, and I'm interested in GA books.

I don't know. I'm aware of at least one other new collection coming to market soon that CGC is slapping pedigree labels on. Or at least a custom label, anyway. CGC is working all the angles to stick its brand wherever it can.
If we're thinking of the same one, the barn find right? Some woman found 800 of her granddad's GA comics, and I *think* they're going to auction later this year and getting a custom sticker.

It's definitely not looking good for both Kamenliter and the guy who got his AF15 stolen (yes, stolen). The restorer doesn't seem to have been transparent at all to his customers, and there's no reason to explain why he has held onto clients' comics for extended periods of time, when he isn't even in a position to conduct operations. It sounds like he was always in over his head in starting this business. I'm unsure of recourse options, but I can say that the man's extenuating circumstances don't excuse thousands worth of cash and collectibles that he's withholding. Some in this thread have offered their positive experiences with him, but having done honest jobs doesn't preclude him from scamming people ever.

HERO RESTORATION - BOOKS NOT BEING RETURNED
in Comics General
Posted
I am honestly astonished by the lack of resolution to this case. Like, there is so much money at stake here and I know I would personally be clawing at the walls if I lost high-dollar books like this.
Incidentally, I will be offering restoration services for high-value Golden Age comics. Just disregard my previous posts griping about how difficult it is to acquire GA books. It will in no way affect my operations
