  1. I lived through the 1990s and I don't see a whole lot of similarity. The flippers, definitely. But the collectors, no. At least not the ones who trickle down to vintage or higher dollar stuff. There are the variant cover/sig series folks that I just don't know from Adam since that's not my wheelhouse. Those who jump on every new "key" that is made by a movie/TV announcement may not last either, but I would guess they (or a good portion of them -- enough to become longer-term collectors) migrate toward more traditional stuff eventually. I mean if you're spending 4 figures on some unknown hero who has no prior history, why not buy a FF 48 in HG also? That TV/movie industry has a vested interest in keeping these people happy also, we can't discount that. But I'm just a crotchety old GA/AA guy who still prefers raw books. I may have no clue what I'm talking about.
  2. Typically I'd be more concerned about a bubble, but 3rd party certification has changed the market entirely. You no longer have to worry about being ripped off which has massively expanded the collector base. Couple that with the huge expansion in exposure/acceptance via TV & movies and I feel that the growth to date is something that may have more substance to it. I would expect some contraction (AF 15 prices are just dumb), but I don't see a bursting of the bubble. I could be wrong, but this bubble has a bit more substance to it.
  3. In my 20-someodd years collecting I've never seen this many flippers. People looking to make a buck hustling are like cockroaches. The number of collectors is much higher than I've ever seen as well, which would mean more homes for books and less turnover.
  4. One of the best. Science 2-4 may be my favorite run in all the Fox output.
  5. Josh is no dummy. If the book was listed at 150k, he very well may have bought it himself, thus the 10% discount, and plan to resell it. He may also have chosen to remove the listing as it wouldn't reflect well on his business. There are many reasons for this listing to have disappeared so quickly.
  6. I saw it listed at $150K, so if it went for $135K it had to be an accepted offer.
  7. I browsed online several times. Then when I got the catalog I browsed again & found other items I was interested in. It also makes for an easier time when trying to note or make a list of items to pursue IMO.
  8. I'm certain I'll sleep better tonight. In fact, I'm getting sleepy already.
  9. When I think of most fans of comic characters I don't typically have a stereotype. The exception is Harley Quinn where I envision PWT teen girls and basement dwelling neckbeards. Neither of those two are known for their discretionary budgets. For that reason alone I'm not seeing this cover fetch anywhere near 6 figures. But I'm also usually wrong when I make these type of predictions.
  10. That has a different meaning here in Colorado.
  11. In the US he appears to be bragging to his gal about 2 kills (but there are 8 shells, presumptively 1 in the chamber, so that's only 2/9 accuracy... not really a whole lot to brag about there buddy). In the UK/Australia... something altogether different.
  12. 33 is one I had considered, but with 35 & 39 I held off. If I was forced to choose, I suspect it would make the cut.
  13. There's Jungle 1 & Planet 1, but those are from a different source.
  14. This was such an unusual auction between the new timing and the upcoming Berk auction. I got stuck in a procedure that should have been 20 minutes and ran 90 and missed out on a few books that went for 60% or so of what they should've. I ended up with the one book I wanted most, but had to pay about twice what I expected it to fetch. Wish I would've ended up paying 60% instead!
  15. It's in CGC's best interest to make this a notable defect so they can convince people to use their pressing service to fix it.
  16. A real gentleman. I had the pleasure to meet him way back when. I think I have a sketch he did for me laying around somewhere. Sad to hear of his passing.
