  1. I'm underwhelmed by that. I can see some spots that are possibly[/] touched up, but not with any degree of certainty. The most suspicious spot to me is the lower left corner. I wanted Kenny's opinion because, unlike divad, he knows what he's talking about. And divad ssabmud, my point is that your theory about replacing rusty staples along with the cover falls apart if you wouldn't do the same after restoring the cover.
  2. Yeah, that makes sense - disassemble the book to add a "photocopy" cover and reassemble using rusty staples PQ often has nothing to do with the condition of the cover, and yes, I agree with Kenny that the spine looks reinforced and color touched. insufficiently_thoughtful_person. To do all that color touch you'd have to disassemble and reassemble.
  3. Kenny, where do you see the obvious CT? I looked for a while and as far as I can tell the pixel pattern is preserved throughout. This looks like a slam-dunk photocopy cover to me. Looks like low PQ inside and maybe even rusty staples.
  4. Thanks for sharing those Jon! I've always loved the Speed 22, and even more in color.
  5. It needs to be cracked out to be truly appreciated. How can you see anything through all that plastic?
  6. This was a random finding as I was digging for stuff on Joe Simon & Al Avison. This cover is Champ 22 (Joe Simon?, 9/42). The baddie at the bottom is almost a direct swipe of one of the guys from Wonderworld 7 (Lou Fine, 11/39). The other bad guys are clearly swiped as well, at least in concept. Makes you wonder if Joe Simon didn't have the OA to Wonderworld 7 as reference material.
  7. I think this is a great idea Matt. I'd considered trying to do something somewhat similar on the boards, but your website will be an even better resource given the publicity & audience your book will (hopefully) find.
  8. I agree. Something about the green on that one and Thrilling 41.
  9. And don't forget the Fantastic #5 - I should have bid on that one.
  10. Does that mean you already have a Science 3? That is my favorite of the run... Stop it! Here's that guy's lonely brother.
  11. Great cover and a tough book to find. I think I have seen one beat to hell copy for sale, and that's about it. There was a sweet 6.0 on Clink last year too. Wish I would have got to it first.
  12. Must.. resist.. expanding... collecting... goals ...FAIL Just keep on moving. No room for more Atlas collectors right now.
  13. The sidebar on this one is awesome. I love the last two. Almost humorous.
  14. I'm glad this thread was bumped. I've become more & more of an Atlas fan recently, and with each purchase the pull gets stronger. I'm buying Westerns for Pete's sake! (the second is a slam-dunk self-portrait of Heath)
  15. Thanks 'Tec! Makes me want to dig mine out again.
  16. Seems like everyone who gets that book ends up selling it. I guess nobody likes it...
  17. I've gotta agree with you here Matt. This one & Startling 52 blow away the Startling 49 in my opinion.
  18. Check out the eyes on Subby & Cap. Not my copy, but if it was I'd be trying to get rid of it!
  19. I gotta agree with the tall guy. MMC 3 rocks. How can you not like an amputee dwarf?
  20. Did I say permananently...? And I'm not even drunk More importantly, why aren't Hellblazer back issues more highly valued than Sandman? 1) Started years before Sandman 2) Still running today! 3) Most of the series remains un-reprinted 4) Has had a movie starring Keanu (much as we wish it hadn't) i always wondered about that. i have never read Hellblazer but i did see the movie and thought it was pretty good. how does it compare to the comic? I enjoyed it, I did. The movie is a quite fun in its own right, and has some really great turns by Tilda Swinton and Peter Stormare. But it isn't Hellblazer. Keanu's Constantine is nothing like the JC of the comics. Put it this way, in the movie Keanu was trying to earn a place in heaven by doing 'good deeds' *cough splutter*. JC would probably rather take his chances in Hell than kowtow to that stuck up miserable little ponce 'god', you get me? Furthermore the movie was way too entrenched in Catholic dogma. JC's universe is far more eclectic and mixed up, and has no special respect for any particular religion. A real Hellblazer movie (or better still a TV show) could be low-key, low budget, dark and irreverent, and bloody brilliant. Geez, this may be the best post ever on the boards! Nicely said.
