  1. Stay away from the westerns... I don't need the competition. Actually I'm just trying to get a few of them for the time being.
  2. Actually this is quite common. Very easy to find. If I were you, I'd pass it along to another board member as this is clearly not a good place for you to invest your money... (tough freakin' book!)
  3. Tec. I think I'm the only person in the world who doesn't care for the cover to Startling 49.
  4. That's what I've heard as well, although I've never seen one without the strip. And I've seen a handful of them. So obviously, mine does have the strip.
  5. There was a whole series of those. I have the one for China, and I think Japan, but the Japanese one didn't have illustrations or quite the overt prejudices. Here's a scan I have stored of the two together.
  6. that is one sweet book, never seen that cover before! I may be wrong on this, but I do believe that is the first Russ Heath war cover. Shep I think Battle 6 is probably the first. It was 1/52, while this is 10/52. There are a few others that predate it (War Advs 4 & 5, Battlefield 2, Battlefront 1, Combat 1, 2, Men's Advs 13, Men in Action 3, and Battle Action 3), but I think Battle 6 was his first cover.
  7. I forgot!! That's right... I think between you and Goldust, you got most of them. And Brent got the para covers. You're right.. nice to know they went to good homes! Shep Then I bought some from Golddust....if only I had the good sense at the time to buy them all. And CapFreek, try doing a search under the GA section for flamethrower covers. We had a thread in there a while back. Which do you have?
  8. Well, some of them are in loving hands. You can take solace in that.
  9. Since we're on the topic of Heath, here's a true "tour-de-force" IMHO. The detail on this one is phenomenal and I was giddy to get a decent copy. Too bad the interiors on these Navy books generally stink.
  10. Not at all - look at Deathlok and Timulty - Tim has seriously thick skin to put up with that absolutely insane harassment for as long as he did. These sociopaths often just pick someone out and troll them, for whatever reason. Oh the irony...
  11. "I'm the best there is at what I do, and what I do is the WORST!" Jack Well obviously I'm terrible at it. Once you embrace the fact that you can't tell one artist from another it's liberating and you can just enjoy it.
  12. Yeah, but I usually delete about 3/4 of the stuff. The more I look at it, the less convinced I am that it's Everett. The water looks Everett-ish to me, but some of the faces really don't (esp. the first panel on page 3).
  13. This story is from Battlefield 2 - it's uncredited on the AtlasTales site, but it looks like Everett to me. Anyone else?
  14. Nice book Andy. Did you find a B&B washtone pusher or something? (I need an 18 and my dealer can't get me no scores...)
  15. What an unusual color layout, especially for a horror book. Very cool to see the guide next to the actual book.
  16. Sweet books, Scott! I guess I can post this one now that it arrived safely. I didn't want to jinx it.
  17. Yup. Good eye! I'd probably commit a minor felony to get a real nice Navy Action 4 (or 2 for that matter...) It's a real shame about the marvel chipping on my copy because it's great otherwise. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.
  18. I went through what I have, and this (e.g. Navy Combat 9) kind of confirms my suspicion - i.e. that the hammer & sickle wasn't representative of Russians, but rather communists in general. It may be that the respective artists were unaware of the distinction betweeen Russia (hammer & sickle) and Korea (red star) - but I doubt it as one of them is Severin, and he was perhaps the most detail oriented of all the GA artists. It may be what the editor wanted to get a broader appeal of the propaganda. It may also be that the Russians provided equipment to the Koreans with the hammer & sickle on it. But as evidenced by the Navy Combat 9, it's clearly Koreans with the hammer & sickle equipment. On the other hand, look at the Spy Fighters 7 - you've got Koreans coming around the corner and the wall has a Nazi eagle with a hammer & sickle. This is Heath, another stickler for detail. Mick, if he's going to be in SD this year maybe you can ask him about this.
  19. Sorry, I was out of town. Any requests? I'll dig through the scans I have for those with Russians.
