  1. I was just talking with someone yesterday about how their grandfather wouldn't let their dad back in the house after he went to college and grew his hair out. As the parent of a 17 year old, rebellion sure has changed.
  2. I'm going to guess that the majority of books sold in the last HA auction weren't bought by another auction house.
  3. Technically you can get the tape off, but there's going to be at minimum a lot of ugly discoloration where it was. Given the way that book looks you're likely to get some damage as well, not to mention what damage the tape is covering. Unless you're planning on a full bore restoration -- which would be really impractical -- probably not worth it.
  4. 5. I vividly remember conversations on the elementary school playground about this specific issue. Everybody liked GI Joe, but issue 21, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and no words! It instantly became a coveted issue and people were trading higher quality stuff for it if they didn't have a copy. I know exactly the spot I was in and the two other kids present when we found out about it. So in my little world, it was a big deal. But to be honest, 26 & 27 were more memorable and more significant. I probably read those issues 20 times.
  6. Not to mention some dude randomly dropping in on the back in outer space. It's a beautiful image, but absolutely ridiculous in content.
  7. That issue is great from cover to cover. Wally Wood, Bob Powell, a great Morisi story, Drucker... what more could you ask for?
  8. I spent a few days in SF last year. I was disappointed when by the second to last day I hadn't seen a homeless guy pooping on the street, until by sheer divine providence my girl and I got to witness that beautiful spectacle of nature. The guy was so nice also, after he pulled up his pants... all 3 layers of them... in front of the bus stop, he used a newspaper to pick up his poo. I thought about suggesting that next time he just put the newspaper down on the ground as it would be much easier, but he clearly had a system.
  9. I clicked on this thread to see about people's thoughts on the SW8 page sale and found nothing but petty bickering. I don't know what I expected, but I do know this is what @CGC Mike was talking about in terms of derailing threads.
  10. I was scrolling through my watched list on HA, 75 or so items. I think the most watchers any of them had was 134 and the most bidders was 24. I have nothing to compare that to, but I'd be curious to know how this translates to the the number of collectors out there. OA seems to have many more trackers than comics, I assume because there's not GPA/GoCollect, etc., for art.
  11. The idea that winter is worse for auctions has never had any good evidence. I think it's a myth. Just look at this last Heritage auction.
  12. I don't want to trade or sell, only buy. It seems like it would be a fun way to network, and with all the new blood in the hobby that's a necessary thing.
  13. The one time I've ever been right about OA on HA. That puts me in the top 95% of posters.
  14. One possible bright side, is that with all the new fees, people should feel more comfortable holding CGC accountable for their errors & other product issues.
