  1. I haven't seen an Idyl or I'm Age at auction in 7-8 years, so I'm guessing it's pent up demand.
  2. Jeff Jones Idyl went for $38.4k! Wow.
  3. Andy, how about I buy it, then you come over and scan all my books.
  4. I just scanned every slab I have over a few months. Then someone posted scans with a scanner that look better. Now I'm dreading considering doing it all over. Congrats on finishing!
  5. The problem in this scenario is that there's always another collector in the same situation. Is it worth it to beat them out this time, or do you take your chances that you'll see another in less than a decade when the price will go up that much more.
  6. Exactly. I'm not looking to slab to sell, but rather to have in my collection. I can stomach if I lose a few bucks on a sale, but I can't stomach damage to a book it's taken me 20 years to find.
  7. I disagree with you in many aspects, but I can see how you came to your conclusions. Let me give you an analogy to try to change your perspective. I'm a doctor, and by most everyone's account I'm about as patient and reasonable as you can expect one to be, at least professionally. Because of this, I'm constantly asked to serve on boards, committees, etc., to the point that I've had to start declining. In my position, I'm the top of the food chain, and I make it a point to not take advantage of that. When something comes up that I don't like I work through the proper channels to get it corrected. Sometimes I get my way, others I don't. Either way, I accept it and move on. However, there are times that the staff below me (who don't have the luxury of being at the top) have problems that need to be fixed, and the proper channels don't work because people don't want to listen or do the work to help. In those circumstances, where someone with less influence than me needs help, I have stepped in and flexed, often by raising my voice, in order to get things accomplished. In this situation, moderation was broken and nobody was willing to fix it. Countless members have spoken up about this being a problem and CGC didn't want to do anything. (That's not an indictment of the people doing the moderation... that's a thankless job and not one I would ever take. That was a terrible decision by CGC and this outcome is what should have been expected.). So Mr B, who has more influence than most, stepped up and flexed to get the problem fixed. Because working the other channels wasn't working. Sometimes that's what you have to do to make something happen.
  8. Those are extra, you should be happy you got more slab than you paid for.
  9. The Reinman story in that issue is one of my favorites.
  10. I actually like funny animal books and have a few dozen. Just not any Fox.
  11. From time to time I look at the CGC census of Atlas war comics. As of last month, out of ~500 issues there were 8 in 9.4 and 3 in 9.6. Most of the known pedigree issues aren't technically perfect, so while most of those aren't graded, if they were those numbers wouldn't go up a whole lot. The printing was so poor on them, even Mile Highs are often 8.5-9.0 at best.
  12. It's really a different animal to collect 1950s books. If you're collecting SA you can wait for a 9.4 or a 9.6 with OWW or W pages. Even WWII era books often at least have several copies in existence in NM, even if they're not available. If you're collecting pre-code horror then you may have to settle for a VF with C/OW pages. If you're collecting war, you'll be happy to find a copy in FN. If you're collecting romance you hope to find one that's not missing pieces. Many of these books genuinely don't exist in NM due to the poor production quality and numbers. Even the pedigrees often yield books that are at best VF/NM despite having never been read or handled. Those that do exist are tightly held in collections. I think that although these books aren't in 9.4 W, in a number of cases they're the best that have been offered in 20+ years. The consigner got a large portion of them from another collector who has had them for years.
  13. I've been using Chrome the entire time. Cleared out my cache multiple times. Log out, log in, log out, log in, log out...
  14. Waaaaay back in the early 1990s I had a Zoot 1. I traded it to Bruce Ellsworth in some deal. A few months later we were loading up to go to a convention and he came out to my car and threw it in my trunk and said, "take this back, I don't want it. Nobody can sell these."
