  1. I'm not a CGC dealer, but I'm surprised that they weren't already charging for this service. Given how much their overhead has likely increased, I'm not surprised that they had to raise prices recently either. But to just flat out change the terms without notifying people is poor customer service. Seems like everyone was really caught off guard, and that's not acceptable.
  2. What? You're purchasing an item. You send them the money and it's theirs. They're not holding it and returning it to you once they ship. This doesn't make any sense.
  3. There seems to be a rash of people who think this forum is designed to advertise their youtube channel.
  4. I think the more relevant point in all this is, if you want to make gains buy blue chip stuff in any grade. If we were to compare results on non-key books the gains on 9.8 vs 4.0 for non-key ASMs in the 60s and 70s, your comps are going to be completely different. That's where the "only buy HG" mantra holds. But to generalize sales of blue chip keys to non keys is silly.
  5. And when you retire you can set up a business to sell your books to yourself at a loss and then average that against any profits
  6. There hasn't been an AF15 in 8.5 at auction since 2017 and the Action 1 in 8.5 is probably worth 50-100% more than what it sold for with the recent runups. You could just as easily cite the recent 9.0 Hulk 1 at $490K which is roughly an equivalent multiple compared to 10 years ago as a 2.0. In a bull market everything sells and grows. When that market contracts the higher grade stuff is more likely to hold both its value and liquidity due to supply:demand ratio. We can find exceptions to justify any claim, but as a general rule you'll be better off in the long term with premium quality books.
  7. I hate when someone creams on my label.
  8. I don't know why it is, but Blue Ribbon is definitely harder to find than other titles. When I put together the run of Zip from 21-35 it took me a couple of years. Putting the Peps together just requires money. I had to wait a decade to get my BR 17, and only then because the release of the Berk books. I think I was underbidder on the MH, and the only other copy I can recall was this Pinnacle Hill one. That's 3 copies in something like 13-14 years. There are 2 others in HA from 2006 & 2008. Talk about tough.
  9. Yup. High grade gets all the talk, but low grade sells. Most collectors can't afford $20-30k for PCH (which is what pretty much every classic cover is fetching in HG... just wild). Plus it's easier to find. Look at all the new guys in IG. Very few people are showing off high grade GA, but lots of beat up books, conserved labels seem really popular, etc., because that's what you can find.
  10. When you started your blog, the $100k threshold was rarely met. Last HA sig auction a Lois Lane 106 broke $50k. Times have changed.
  11. Maybe the grader read it and really liked it... enough to call it a "classic" issue.
  12. A cold snowy evening calls for a nice smoky scotch. Happy new year to all.
  13. No. I just tear pages off of the stack of Action 1s by the toilet and wipe with those.
