  1. Do you have a link to Satan's website? I'm trying to find a few books to fill holes in my runs.
  2. There's nothing like a big fat golden age book that fills up the mylar and you can see a gap at the centerfold when looking from above. Seems like a lot of Larsons look like that. Churches, not so much from being stored in stacks.
  3. Almost all the NS golden age books were from 1939-40. Heritage has a Black Terror 3, which was from 1943. So while possible, it seems unlikely that it's from that collection. Jim Payette is very open to email inquiries, it would be worth the time to ask him.
  4. I don't know of anything in any other hobby that rivals the magnitude of that find. Sure, you can on occasion find a copy that's nicer. But 98% of the time the Mile High is the nicest in both structural grade and preservation. Add in the fact that it has almost every book published during the era, including ALL of the big keys. It's just mind blowing. Especially when you consider the space necessary to keep all the books. This isn't coins or baseball cards. Literally a full basement.
  5. I can't believe how ignorant you are. It was clearly Halperin.
  6. I'm waiting for lou_fine to comment on all of them before I decide.
  7. The promise copy looks the best to me, the twilight-- while not having a dust shadow-- appears to be a little dirty all over. Or at least tanned. Which is effectively a full book shadow. (lou_fine is already concocting a series of conspiracies to explain how that got a 9.6). It could just be the imaging, but the promise copy appears fresher.
  8. Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence.
  9. No longer slabbed. It pains me to see Salidas where you can't flip through the pages.
  10. Well done Jim. That's such an amazing effort by Everett when he was at his peak. He had evolved from his cartoony phase to his hyper-realistic phase, and to get that on a cover where he has work both above and below the surface of the water... I mean look at the waves, the bubbles, the sub...
  11. I suppose the Church AC 1 went through Snyder also, so it may have some glue or CT. I say that as pure conjecture, but it wouldn't surprise me. These shenanigans are nothing new.
  12. Do yourself a favor and don't ever ask anyone about Dave's history of manipulating books
  13. It's better to ask forgiveness than permission.
  14. I'm not assuming there's anything altruistic. I'm well aware that Heritage isn't doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, but I wouldn't expect them to do that either. But there's good fortune on behalf of the family, who will get a truly life-altering amount of money from this. And there's good fortune on behalf of collectors, many of who will get to fill holes in their collections. One thing there that really stands out to me is the fact that Timely collectors -- of which I'm not one -- haven't had access to the Church copies of these books (heretofore presumed to be the best) for 30+ years. Now all of a sudden there's a huge collection of them in 9.6-9.8... awesome! A lot of my friends are going to be really excited to get these books and many others. How great for them! I'm in this hobby for the friendships as much as the books, how could I not get joy from watching my friends get something they're really excited about? Now the pressing/certification nonsense... I've clearly gone on record with my thoughts on that. It is what it is, I wish it wasn't, but it is. So I have the choice to let it affect me or not, and I choose the latter. I genuinely hope you are happy. But if something this petty gets under your skin, that's a barrier.
  15. That's awesome. As Jim pointed out, plenty of war stuff with Atlas. Congrats on the pick up, that's a really neat item!
  16. If this doesn't make you happy as a hobbyist, then I can't answer that for you. I readily find happiness in others' good fortune, give it a try.
  17. It's a remarkable collection, a remarkable find, and something that we should be celebrating. Even if you have no interest in bidding, it's something that's great for the hobby as a whole.
  18. This is terrible. "War comics" in GA typically has around 7k listings. Now "war comics" in all of comics has 4400, most of which seem to be Star Wars. I'm really glad I don't rely on ebay for income.
