SC, as always thank you so much for your insight! I realized I mixed issues here, so removed the images of 102. Just wanted to confirm this is your grade on the #105.

Specifically wondering what the chip out of the bottom right corner of the front cover does to the grade. Thanks!

Yup that’s the only flaw I could find too, thanks!

Thanks, as always! I love these cover too (seems DC did more with this kind of compositing than Marvel). I’ll try to take some brighter pics but I can’t find anything other than that teeny ding on the side of the front cover (triangular). I recently bought a lot of silver age FF so will probably be posting more of them soon.

Thank you, as always, sc, for your thoroughness and also I hope if I send it in, they are not as thorough as you ;-) It’s definitely a stain and it has a texture. I hadn’t really noticed it! Now intro the rabbit hole of whether that defect is improvable and if so, by how much. Mostly likely, the risk will be too great for the bump, and I will be content with the Mona Lisa of 5.0s

Awesome, thank you! I paid 4.0/5 prices so while the underhang isn’t my favorite, I’m very happy!

Just checked - nope! Just like a dark fiber or something in the paper.

If I decide to try to work on it I’ll post results but I’m still very happy considering how I got it! Thanks so much for your time .

Yes this is dry-cleaned/pressed already. It’s as good as it’s gonna get without doing like a heat overlay press or some whitening, which I’m just starting to get into. So, if you can let me know where you think it’s now, that would be great!

Yow! I would be over the moon to get a 6.5 on this book! Thanks for the heads up on CCS. Researching them and hearing these kind of stories led me to start learning to do my own pressing. Here’s how Jean Grey came to me in the collection i bought! I probably pressed this book earlier than i should have attempted a spine roll repair, but the staple is intact so I guess I still came out ahead ;-) https://imgur.com/a/k4Qvt2T

Hi, An overall nice copy with a detached centerfold. What does the board think? More pics attached. Thanks for your time!

The seller originally had it as an 8.0. It sat, I think because of the staples, for a while and I got it for an offer based on valuation as a 6.0. I think I was able to take that risk because I had previously bought books from this lot and so could interpret the photos differently and knew their books were generally very solid and definitely unpressed/treated (they’d been in a box for 40+ years). and yes I feel very lucky, thanks!

Thank you! Yes, agreed, but I (and I hope this is ok to say on this board) feel that way in general. I feel like right now the only books I would slab would have to be above 9.4 or below 2.0 (in one case bc I fear it could lose grade in my care, in the other bc I fear it might fall apart).

Hi all, thank you I will post more pics when I am home tonight/tomorrow!
