  1. YOU GUYS, I knew I was holding something extremely special in my hands when this book arrived, but I wasn't expecting this! I don't even know what to say because I'm freaking out, so I won't say anymore until I've fully digested this. I had some idea when two days ago CGC was like "Oh we just charged you an extra $xxxx in high value fees", but really am beside myself. I feel like this is a once-in-a-lifetime privilege, to have held a silver age 9.8 like this in my hands raw, as well as to be its owner. I'm just so grateful. Thanks, everyone! full
  2. "Where am I from? A little place called none of your g-d d--n business. Let's trade some comics."
  3. Oh man, I love these. I had a British friend when I was a kid and always marveled (GET IT?) at how nice these were compared to our floppies.
  4. I’ve always identified most with Leonard Washington, myself
  5. can't get better signature placement than that!
  6. Yes, this is basically it. I would say to people here: if you feel badly about what happened to Ed and your reaction to that is to point the same pressure and unfounded accusations at someone else personally involved in this, maybe do that math in your head one more time.
  7. Totally understandable, thank you! And really, more of a comment for the people participating in the thread then you. I didn’t expect to get an actual reply, so apologies if I disturbed you.
  8. Oh hey, I don’t know who the moderator is on this forum, but if I had JUST ONE suggestion to make after all this, it would be to try to curb further hearsay and recriminations of anyone involved in this tragedy and keep the discourse about our feelings rather than accusing people of things that we will never have enough information to even reasonably guess about. I haven’t read nearly all of this thread, but I have seen enough speculating about and calling out of people’s motivations in accusing Ed to make me think “isn’t this the exact same ignorant, unfair pressure Ed was talking about in his letter?” That’s one benefit of a moderated forum.
  9. LOL This is the best PSA on this thread
  10. Yes and we all think we’ve stilled our waters until the next pebble hits the surface, or that we’ve dug a far deeper groove of good habits than we often have. Depression and PTSD are like the sword of damacles, in my experience. I can make tons of progress, but I have to be vigilant because any stray thing can bring them right back to the forefront after years. Understanding and reckoning with the fact that you have a disability is so hard, especially a “hidden” one like this. I’m so happy you’ve made the progress you have and wish you continued progress
  11. Just beat me to it. GREAT grab, my friend
  12. Just giving you props for a top-tier username
  13. I would say for me, personally, the "fix" is to not get involved in any way when someone I have no connection to shares an experience or opinion about anyone else I have no connection to. Collectively, we could have viewed the initial 1st hand reports as like PSAs - and then said to ourselves "ok well this will either play itself out legally or somehow become clearer in the public eye. I'll follow it if I'm interested." The problem is that, with social media, other people's lived experiences become something for each of us to react to - indeed, that's really the only value anything on social media has - and that generates the feeling of no safe haven, etc, when that attention is pointed at you. So for me, the fix is to keep increasingly realizing that I don't have to get involved in other people's stories just because I come across them and that social media interaction is most often a solely negative way of interacting. We can each control our own behavior. I didn't get involved on reddit or anything, but did exchange a few presumptive txts with a friend. And if anything I personally said online as someone completely disconnected from this whole thing would have added weight to what Ed, Molly, or anyone else felt in this situation, I would regret it. And will try to remember that the next time something like this happens.
  14. (removed duplicate post)
  15. Update - the lovely folks at CGC added an 8.5 pre-screen to my order for me. So this one will likely be coming back raw and I won’t have to risk damaging it by cracking it. Thank you to everyone here for the insight and advice, and I’ll of course update here when it comes back or gets rejected during pre-screen.
  16. Thanks, SC! May send this one in w a pre-screen. RE: the back, here’s the back of that x-men 6 I sent before/after pressing.
  17. I’m thinking 6.5 bc of how nice the back cover is, but I think that tear on the back could bring it down to a 6
  18. Here’s my first reformed post. This book has neither been cleaned or pressed, nor is it on its way to CGC already 😅. I have a lot of confidence in the stacking curve on the back and anything non color breaking on the front coming out, but we’ve got some general spine wear all along the spine as well as that one more significant area of wear under the word balloon to the left of mole man. The color is gorgeous as are the interiors but I’m not gonna be fooled again! What does the community think? Thanks!
  19. Seems like a consensus is building and this is a great lesson for me - post em here BEFORE I decide to send them out. It’s such a pretty copy I think I overlooked some flaws. When this book likely comes back under an 8.5, it’ll probably get cracked so I can enjoy it again, how I prefer to (I usually only slab books I intend to sell). I’ll of course share here when it comes back, and thank you all for your time and insight!
