  1. I think it's silly they wouldn't give a single copy of this book a 9.8 for because of this tear in over 14 years, even thought it's a well known production defect. Yet, I have seen plenty of books with worse production defects at 9.8 ASM 361 is the most obvious one. Chunks missing from the bottom cover.. NO PROBLEM. 9.8 all.day. Many moderns have the top corners of the spine clipped with a small tear, seen hundreds if not thousands of moderns in 9.8 like this. Sure Wolverine 35 was not a highly submitted book, and the defect is not a common one, but a little research would be nice. Otherwise, what are you paying for? Now that it's a very well known defect, will they plop them in 9.8 slabs en masse? If not, why? I don't see how its any different than any other printing defect that gets a pass.
  2. I don't think the first book with a MJ insert would be any different. The last books with the inserts, now that is something entirely different. Seeing as how the last books were filled with left over inserts many last issue copies have just a fraction of the estimated 5% normal insert ratio.
  3. Hopefully, those boardies looked at the inserts before submission and can tell us one way or the other. No sorry can't tell you as I bought the book already graded and I don't want to break it out. Well, I have had an ASM 100 with an insert and it was the National Diamond Jewelers insert. No way they had both. I think both are CGC errors.
  4. (thumbs u Finding any key with one is is always sweet. Like finding an extra little hidden compartment at the bottom of a treasure chest. I don't think I've ever seen the combo with a double cover. That would be nice and would go for big bucks especially if the grade was decent. -J. In my time collecting error books like double covers and also having a large amount of MJ books , around two long boxes of them, I have noticed a slight increase in the number of double covers on MJ insert books. I think the added thickness has something to do with it. Considering that MJ inserts were only put in roughly 5-10% of any print run on any particular book, the odds of finding a MJ + DC *should* be drastically lower then finding a regular copy of the same book with a DC. I personally have found MJI+ DC to be very hard to find still, but not as hard as they should be.
  5. The reason I asked if they were subscription copies is basically because at first glance they looked like sealed single copies. I was not paying attention, and did not notice the 2nd books in the bags. Just a mistake on my part.
  6. If it's a mainstream DC printed between 1994 and Oct of 1996. the odds are good that it has a DC Universe variant, with few exceptions. The Batman Annual #13 is a surprise for me; clearly it was a reprint (a la Green Lantern #36.) Still working on a complete list. Based on what you just said, and the pictures above, is it safe to assume that most mainstream DC books from that timeframe, that were Subscription mailed, will all have the DCU logo? Is that what we have here? Subscription variants? With some misc set and specialty books and reprints that have the logo as well?
  7. I tend to snatch these up in VF or better when I see them for cheap ( $1-3 ) I actually picked up the GL 51 2nd print logo variant in a shop last week while on vacation in Arizona for $1 , minty fresh too! I know that * some* did indeed come in 2-3 packs and collectors sets. I believe some were distributed in the Costco " brick" 20 packs as well. Best list I have seen so far. I'm sure there are more, but cannot think of any ATM. RMA knows a lot more about these particular variants than I, so I defer to him.
  8. Turtlemania Gold? Silver? Gobbledygook? Sounds like its original art, as he said he is having it framed.
  9. Good info I did not know that ! interesting info While im sure if Disney wanted to, they could pick up this fight and win or just buy out that other company, I don't see why they would waste their time with it. I also do no see this affecting them being able to name a MOVIE " The Champions" or a team inside another movie " The Champions" It seems with that patent info, the only thing they lost is comic publishing rights to the name, nothing else.
  10. Close and this book is sought after for that reason and one other combined. I think he was going for the first "impressive" appearence. The #28 seems more impressive than the "stay off my lawn" window appearance Ha, nice. Yes, but the topic is question was first cover appearance. We can argue that we like Spider-Man #1 as the best cover but that doesn't make it more valuable than pretty much an ASM from the original run. I'm pretty sure the last 25 posts or so have been arguing what *type* of cover appearance is *more important*...ASM #315 has Venom's head (which, by the way, TOTALLY ruined #316's jive...could have been, and should have been, a nice, slam-dunk, no question first cover...but nooooo!) And, the "disembodied head" thing that was all the rage from the 60's to the 80's, versus the "full body shot" cover. CM #26 is just a shadow window appearance. #28 has him dominating the cover, whether it's silhouette or not. I doubt anyone would make the claim that #33 is "more impressive" than #28, but I'm always surprised.... And Gamora's appearance in ST #180 is a cameo. So take THAT, alla youse! I don't know about more impressive, but I've always preferred the cover to 33, it was one of my favorite covers as a kid. I've always loved the cover to #33. It's a dynamic battle cover that grabbed my attention when I was a youngster as well. Actually, it was the first Captain Marvel back issue I ever bought, mostly due to that exceedingly "impressive" cover. I can see where a case can be made for #28 though. It's an extremely dramatic cover with a little more storytelling going on, and it features Thanos looming in the background, making what would eventually become his go-to Marvel movie expression. And shouldn't that signature grin earn the cover bonus points? It's kind of like the first time The Rock raised his eyebrow or Miley stuck her tongue out.
  11. That would definitely explain the $200 thing . Pretty interesting to see big companies doing this. My guess is most will settle in the $20 range while books like ASM will be more like $40, unless it hits a cord with people.
  12. Two auctions ended above $200 for the ASM #11 Lugz variant. Look like its averaging in the $70 range and trending down with many buy it nows for less than $50, some under $40 . Plenty of sales in the $50 - $100 range. A few over $100. Not seeing any $200 completed sales on ebay however, a few Dec 12th-15th freak out, don't want to miss it if its " goes up" purchases for $175 is all I see. Every sale from the 16-17th has gone down drastically. Is this the same 1 per store type variant as the all new captain America " No flex zone" That Mycomicshop has 4 in stock of, and has sold 7 copies of? I suppose the reaction to this book is more about being an limited ASM variant ( of any kind ) than it has to do with what or who is on the cover, which is why its doing much better than Captain America no flex.
  13. I have no idea. I didn't see the inside front cover as part of the negatives which would indicate which printing this might have been from. Cool stuff but hard to verify authenticity. +1 I am intrigued however. I don't know anything about this. Even if it is from one of the various reprints and not the 1st printing ( whats there now, about 15 of them total? Counting tales of, all the reprints, FCBD and so on. Heck this could be the negatives from the counterfeit production ), if its real $900 was probably a steal.
  14. Not sure what you mean, but they have been here 5 years longer than you... On this section of the forum boards Not sure what you mean? You are worried they will adjust their prices based on what is posted here? They don't work that way. They use verified sales from their site, and others like Ebay. They don't adjust their prices based on speculation. They would get burned more than they would make. MCS is here in this thread because they do keyword searches for " MCS" and " Mycomicshop", In order to PR work. They take their image seriously and if people complain here, they respond and make it right normally, and go out of their way to explain things. Isn't that right Conan?
  15. Not sure what you mean, but they have been here 5 years longer than you...
  16. Considering how hot this book is, I am surprised the variant hasn't shot up past $300 raw NM. I know its only a 1:25, but when the regular # 2 is fetching $30 raw nm, $125 seems cheap for the variant. I had my chance at 5 copies for $25 a piece, but I passed because the huge Gwen-head I was staring at bothered me. Big mistake.
  17. Some sellers use priority because the less time a book spends in transit under the control of the USPS the better. Also with priority your buyer gets the book anywhere from the next day to 3 days later at most. Buyers really appreciate getting a book only a few days after ordering it and sellers like knowing that they are free and clear of a transaction just a couple of days after they've gotten payment. Since you seem to be so knowledgeable about marketing on eBay, one would think you would understand the benefit of superior customer service. Said service coming at what any regular comic book buyer would view as a negligible difference in price between first class and priority. A buyer will quickly forget about the 2 extra dollars they paid for shipping when the book they bought on Tuesday ends up in their mailbox on Thursday. Just popping my head in here for a second. Isn't there an option for the seller to create multiple shipping options for the buyer to chose from? When selling on ebay I always gave the option for 1st class up to 2 books. I'm sorry, but when buying a $5 book the difference between paying $2.75 for first class or doubling the shipping to nearly $6.00 for priority, which is more than the cost of the book, is significant. Great customer service, in my mind, is giving the buyer as many options as reasonably possible.
  18. personally, I think RMA is one of the best posters on the boards. His points are always well thought out and reasonable, and he doesn't argue from emotion or butthurt. I don't always agree with him but I appreciate his posts. If you don't agree, refute him you don't have to like him but he's usually right. Mike, you are right, RMA actually is one of the best posters on this forum. He comes off as a know it all sometimes, but he does know a lot so that's ok. it annoys me a bit, since I know a good amount to, but ive never complained outside of my own thoughts . The problem starts when you question something he posts, counter anything he says he refuses to discuss it. It seems the more you are right, the less he talks. You know I'm right here, and can read this, right...? It's not like I'm out of earshot in another room...these posts stay here... I "come off like a know it all" because people are overly sensitive, and don't like to be challenged. The issue isn't me, the issue is those of you who get upset when someone criticizes what you post, and you adopt a "well, he's just a know it all, anyways!" attitude, to soothe the hurting of the butt, when, if you didn't tie up your ego in what you know, you wouldn't have that problem in the first place. What you don't understand is that the issue is YOU, not your really rather silly "it seems like the more you are right, the less he talks" claim, which anyone with about 10 minutes of experience with me knows isn't true in the slightest. Refuse to discuss something...? Hi, my name is RMA...have we met? I simply don't wish to discuss things with YOU, because the discussions lead to all of THIS (as I point at the last 25 or so posts.) That doesn't, however, prevent me from pointing out when you are in error. Now...how about we stop talking about each other, and get back to the topics, huh? Lets do that, I am big enough to let it go, even though I don't agree with what you just said above. Give it another shot. Tell us about these errors. Lets not go the same route this time.

  20. ugh, not what I expected when I came here to check. Kinda busy with kiddos, maybe later.
  21. I never proclaimed, nor do I pretend to be perfect. (thumbs u Then why bother to counter someone's argument, if you're not going to make sure your counterargument is completely sound and airtight? * Trying to be nice as I said I would * I actually think most of what I said is sound. I simply said I am not perfect. Then you question me even making a post because of that. According to you, one should never post anything unless they think they are 100% right, to the point that if someone counters what you have posted, that you should feel no need to reply with anything other than comments like " There are errors here" and not actually discuss it. So don't post unless you are so stuck on your opinion that you wont be willing to have a conversation about it? Really? Well at least you follow your own rules I guess. I think there is a middle ground here, as I believe you are incorrect or excluding some important things , and I also could be incorrect or missing something and together there could be a better consensus on the actual print run of this book. The problem is, one of us isn't willing to admit to, at the very least, the possibility of being wrong, or missing something. Hint: its not me. Experience with you tells me that you are not open to rationally discussing disagreements without becoming emotionally involved and making the issue personal. I typed out a lengthy response, but deleted it, realizing that this is still true. This post of yours is further evidence of that; as an example. the last paragraph where you describe an unwillingness to consider the possibility of being wrong on my part, which bears no relevance to the discussion, and is a remark about me, personally, rather than the topic. Suffice it to say, there remain errors in your information, and the conclusions made from that information are thereby faulty. If I'm wrong, show how. All the rest is unnecessary melodrama. Breakdown so far... ( paraphrasing of course) RMA: A lot of reasons he thinks ASM 361 has a print run near 400k Me: rebutting RMA : A lot of reasons I think ASM 361 has a print run near 550k RMA: Errors in your post bro, then dead silence. No explanation. ( passive aggressive) Me: Well I never said I was perfect, I still think I have many good points, lets discuss it. ( honest) RMA: Why even post if you are not 100% sure you are right about everything you said? There is nothing to discuss here. ( passive aggressive) Me: HUH? Because a lot of this is speculation and assumption on both our parts, we both could be wrong in some cases, we should be able to talk about this and reach a consensus, but someone here cannot even admit to the possibility being wrong, or missing something, and it is not me. ( aggressive, and straightforward yet, honest ) RMA: ASM 361 went to a second print, so you are "wrong" about 1/10th of your post! I was going type out more, but you take stuff so personal. You saying I can't admit I could be wrong has nothing to do with this conversation,. you are making it personal, im not talking about it anymore. ( Cop-out) End paraphrasing.. Now for a quote Look man, I rebutted your post ( that's the "show how" you are asking for). Instead of discussing it, you are hanging on the fact I admitted that I * could* be wrong and that i'm not perfect, as some type of proof that you are correct about these so called " errors in my information" that you keep bringing up but will not tell us about. Then you tell me to try again? Come on. My original response to your post is still there. You not being able to admit to missing something or being wrong, or even taking part of an idea and realizing that it does make sense and adding that to your opinion and reforming it, has everything to do with this conversation. You wont even talk about it because of your attitude about how perfect your opinion is. It breaks the entire discussion down to the point it doesn't happen. That's very relevant. I thought, even though we have bumped heads in the past because of this problem, this particular thread could be different because I think we both have enough to add to make the estimate better. Almost everything from both of our posts are assumptions and educated guesses because there really is not much information from that time period that is unquestionable fact, maybe that's why I thought we could get together on this one. There is an error in your logic about 361 thing being a surprise btw. We are both right, and both wrong I believe, but in the end, proves my point more than yours. Maybe Ill explain that... later, you first...
  22. I never proclaimed, nor do I pretend to be perfect. 23. I am really interested in this particular topic. I think some of what I said does have merit, but I can be wrong too. There is a lot of guesswork with not much real proof here. I simply think assuming 361 was printed nearly the same as 358-360 is flawed is all. I also think not factoring a lower return on the newsstand due to a sellout at the retailer level is a huge flaw as well. Just me personally, I went around to about 20 convenience stores and bookstores around my town to buy what they had. A few days later a friend of mine told me he did the same thing and we laughed as we tried to figure out who beat who to which store, and which ones were already sold out. There is about 50 less returns from Killeen, Texas alone. That's one small city. It adds up fast.
  24. I never proclaimed, nor do I pretend to be perfect. (thumbs u Plenty of facts In there too. I think there is about 100k more out there than you do. Ill be nice, lets go over it.
