  1. just a few years ago, I could literally buy 20 copies of af15 in a single month... these days I seem to be having difficulty locating even a couple of decent copies to buy.... lots and lots of demand of late.... but I would think the higher prices would bring out some more supply... guess time will tell
  2. there will always be a percentage of "bad" press jobs that damage a book...I've seen the waffling effect, I've seen books where exchange paper stuck to cover and ripped cover or pieces lost from cover....heard of books being pressed that split spine (book was obviously too fragile to press)... that said, cellulose strands are bleached and pressed at time of production...so pressing them properly should have no long term effects, other than removing the flaw
  3. The Dentist Dave A has a high grade copy we talked on the phone around 1982-1985 and he had just got the book when i got mine. I have not been in contact with since the 80s when i was selling on the CBG but i (think) he has a copy that would grade 9.2 but thats just hear say . I have heard there was a 9.2 or better out there and that book would break it all. I believe Dave has the Allentown tec 27 Isn't the alleged grade on it NM to NM+? Ya thats what he told me back in the 80s NM/M .The way things were back then was Bob overstreet has the best Timely coll out there and E Gerber was as close to Pedigee there was. i don't quite understand the gerber comment please clarify. Back in the 80's there was no talk abought Pedigree books they were just nice coll found here and there. But Gerber had a lot of key books for his Gerber photo-journals and that was the talk at every con that i sold at. I guess the comment was my verson of a Pedigree was Gerber able to hold all these Rare books. We're people thinking that all the books in the Gerber journals were his personal collection? That certainly isn't true (although some of them may have been his). gerber solicited help in obtaining books to photo...I believe he even ran some cbg ads...so, while he did offer to buy (or owned many I'm sure), the majority were traveled to and photo'd (I believe berk confirmed this with his centaurs...multiple trips iirc)
  4. look at it this way: if you want an authentic picasso his total output would be around 900-1100 pieces from which you choose. if you want a 1st batman well there is about 50-100 tec27 copies known to exist. which one is scarcer? There's way more than 50-100, FYI

  6. My personal interests would lead me to collect batman 1 up, assuming I was starting over and didn't have the knowledge I already have From a dealer perspective I would continue to accumulate high demand books across all ages/genres that I felt I could resell (hopefully profitably )
  7. I'm sure you would have a lot of buyers for a nice 2.5 in that price range Gator I had a nice 2.5 at 10995 in Chicago and no buyer that's not in the range you quoted no one offered 10 and a 2.0 would easily fall in that range You concrete head Floridian You said "8-10k should still get a decent 2.0-2.5 copy" yet your 2.5 was $11K. So either it wasn't "decent" or your range is off. you of all people know that I don't carry average copies , mine are always superior Eye appeal and therefore would command a 10% premium to a "decent" copy Gator is one of the few of us that believe in this concept. The problem is that too much focus is put on GPA and the last sale or the average copy sale. It's a curse as a seller to know what many of the sales actually happen at, because they're dominantly far more than GPA, and one looks greedy by asking such a number. When talking about mega keys, we'll often pay more than GPA too; that story doesn't seem to be told as often. As opposed to Gators methodology, I will buy "less-than-average" copies from time to time, but I'll always disclose and price them as such. I think Gator will just pass on these everytime. Not saying one method is better or worse, but it does say that Gators price will less often look attractive relative to "market", particularly when looking just at partial data. Joey At the right price I will consider copies outside my business model. But I will also sell outside my normal presentation (unless a consigned copy). At the end of the day we all do what we do for reasons only we need understand

  9. There is no Amazing Man #5 Mile High? I believe that is the #6 that is circled at the top of the list. There is a mh 5, but it likely had been sold before the list was made (or chuck withheld). I've seen it.

  14. just a picture Does anyone have an actual copy? mm Heritage sold this copy back in 2003. I've never seen a copy in person. This copy sold for $155, I would guess it would sell for considerably more now. I was told al stoltz had a copy not too long ago too
  15. 8-10k should still get a decent 2.0-2.5 copy. Go for it. The rise will stall a bit at somepoint Before it takes two steps forward again
  16. Gator, Sorry if this has been covered. Just curious as to which of these books did you find the most difficult to acquire? How do you generally come across them? Internet, boardies, cons, or do you just rub the magic lamp once in a while? most difficult of all is one of the ones I'm still missing Little Giant comics 4 the other 3 Im missing are actually books Ive owned before, so just need a little luck and patience... the hard ones to acquire, imo are (keep in mind this is just the harder ones...most all are "hard" to acquire): amf 1.4, 2.1, 2.6 amazing man 25,26 funny pages 40,41 KDF 1/9,1/10 keen 1,2 star 3,6 most all have come from other centaur collectors and friends a few from auctions and on a rare occasion a convention...
  17. Is that yours? Looks like its mounted in a Mylites 4 "R" series - which one? If there is a board under there its doing a good job of hiding. I never realized how massive these AMFs are until I saw a few of them that were 50 pages+ Apparently someone was telling me there a bunch from 1940ish that were like books coming in near 70 page range. It's mine. Photo before I Mylar/full backed it
  18. I just picked them up cuz they're cool. Still need 4 more. Someone help!
  19. I've owned 2 diff #1 keen Komics and 2 diff #3. I've owned the same #2 twice. I've never owned a Keen Komics 1, but would certainly like to. Got it now, there was an AMF giveaway and a FPS laundry promotional. Yeah, I screwed that up. No AMF laundry giveaway. strangely enough, I have both the AMF and the FPS promos
  20. I've owned 2 diff #1 keen Komics and 2 diff #3. I've owned the same #2 twice.
  21. Sounds about right. I have the 2 cmo. But 231 is my goal I have the amf giveaway and the fps laundry as they've presented themselves. Wouldn't turn the khakis away if offered but dont consider them "Newstand"
  22. Gators current Centaur collection is pretty rare Yep. Amazing man 26, funny pages 40, amf1/4, star 3, comic pages 3/5, cowboy comics 14, Stars and Stripes 6/5 My guess is 5-10 or so of each are likely out there Follow up question... Are there any comics out there that you have never seen but are known to exist? Not that I'm aware of. Pretty much seen them all (though haven't owned them all)
