  1.

Looks great, who's the artist? I've had a few ideas for Joe commissions but I've never followed through as I haven't found an artist doing commissions that's got GI Joe samples (so I know I'll get something I'm looking for). I do have an Atkins cover on the way, but now looking for something in multiple character 11x17.

His name is John Jett. I met him on the IDW Boards where he was sharing some of his 'Joe art.

  2. My Robert Atkins Firefly sketch cover just arrived back from CGC.

It was submitted and fast tracked at NYCC. Came back a 9.8 too! (thumbs u

Awesome! :applause: One of the best sketches I've seen on these boards, period. I voted for it! (thumbs u

I agree, this sketch is absolutely AWESOME!!!!

  3. SilentMaster I was reading the posts early on in this thread and you have the most awesome GIJoe comic collection I have ever seen. Your collection is definitely worthy of the awards you have gotten. It must have all been expensive. It is probably cheap and boring in comparison but I have recently completed a fairly comprehensive run of GI Joe comics. My collection consists of ARAH issues 1-110 in floppy copies, then issues 111-155 in GI Joe classic graphic novels(VOL.12-15). I have 1-28 In GI Joe special missions all off the newstand. Recently picked up Origins 1-23, Cobra+Cobra II all issues, and Frontline #1-18. I have all the original year books;#2 is my favorite, I really like the Oktober Guard because they are anti-heroes to me. In my collection is also included European missions #1 , 3-D #1+3, How to draw GI Joe, and vs Transformers #3.I have the Stormshadow Graphic Novels and The Order of battle graphic novel Vol. #1. I plan on picking up Americas Elite soon. I am now wondering what to collect next as I am enjoying re-reading everyone of theses issues in the last 6 months. Should I fill in the few blanks of what I have ?Or could anyone recommend any additional GI Joe series that I might like ,as I am wanting to move away from "super hero" comics for the time being. Thx.

One Joe series missing from your list is Snake-Eyes Declassified (2005 by Devils Due)

It basically takes all of Larry Hama's stories about Snake-Eye's origin and puts it into one story in chronological order.

It's all in the ARAH Marvel series; however, in the ARAH Marvel series it's spread out and not in order.

I agree with Maloney; I enjoyed all the Declassified books: Snake-Eyes, GI Joe, Dreadnoks, Scarlett (some more than others).

You should keep on reading the original series too by picking up 155.5 - current. These have been reprinted in TPB and even large hardcovers.

  4. Here are some pictures of my new sketch cover by Robert Atkins.

He started it at Baltimore Comic Con with pencils, but there was too much detail to finish. So he told me he'd finish it at NYCC.

That is freaking cool. I did not know Atkins was going to be there or I would have had someone get me a sketch. I had A-DONIS talked into grabbing me a couple of the GI Joe #1 Con Exclusives and he messaged me back and was like "Want Atkins to do you a SS CGC on the number 1?" Ah, hell yeah!

I love Atkins work! Got these quite a while ago:

I know they are running slow but is this normal? Especially the "received" then no status change in 4 weeks? Thought maybe there might be some issue I should call about or am I just being an inpatient nut?? (be honest! lol)

  6. I just picked up a nice piece of G.I. Joe art for my collection. I think long ago I had posted the Destro back cover painting by David Michael Beck. Earlier tonight I picked up the back cover painting of Cobra Commander. I personally think it's the 2nd best one of Beck's run behind the iconic Snake Eyes painting. I also just reposted the Destro that can be found in my gallery as well.

    WOW - very nice piece!!!

  7. I didn't realize the whole MArvel run was completed in TPB format. For some reason I thought that was the original intent and then it was dropped. Guess I'll have to pick up the rest.

Marvel only did trades up to issue 50 (Volume 1 thru 5) however IDW recently reprinted them all.

Currently IDW is printing what they call the "Complete Collection" which are hardcover trades that reprint all the GI Joe: ARAH, GI Joe: Special Missions, and the Yearbooks in reading order. They are pricey but VERY NICE.

  8. I would personally say that the GI Joe comics peaked around issue 40. I feel the series had pitt-erred :D by 70 or so. I also think it picked back up towards the end though. But as far as the art, the plot, and the character development I would say between issues 40-43. I know alot of people are just in love with "the silent issue"(#21) BTW Larry Hama wrote that and left out the words in order to save on production times, but the storyline really did not start to develop until after issue 24. Then leading into the intro of the Dreadnoks. I am not Cobra fan but it just goes to show what an amazing writer Hama is. But I digress, Issues 40-43.Amazing. ND.

I remember when I first picked up issue 21 I was pissed! I felt cheated that there was no words; in fact I remember thinking it must be a printing error! lol - I appreciate it a lot more now.

Issues 26 & 27 was my favorite by far and probably solidified my love for GI Joe. I stopped reading originally around issue 65ish. It was probably more due to "teen" distractions (cars, friends, GIRLS) rather than my opinion of the stories. Of course since then I've read them all more than once and I agree that the latter books just don't have the same attraction; especially the last 60 issues are so with several exceptions of course (155 is right at the top of my favorite stories).

Welcome - good to see you in the 'Joe thread; far to few of us in here! :sumo:
