  1. Yes, if you don't count foreign language releases, which I do pick up here and there. I also collect the coloring books, kids books, Joe-related magazine covers, puzzles, and basically anything in print. But as for the comics, I'm only missing these few. What to do and where to look? I thought I might get more of a response here. Thanks for looking anyway!

Hey Shotgun - I keep meaning to look through my stash to see if I might have some of these extra but haven't had time... Maybe this weekend I'll pull the boxes from the closet and give them a look.

    :wishluck:

  2. So it looks like the small 75s were in the bagged packs

Here's the thing, I've seen both versions in the 3-pack bags. So I don't know the history of why there are two different types. (shrug)

Great...so now I've got to start looking for 3and 5pack bags with big 75s...just to add more crazy rare items to my neurotic searching...

    From a couple pages ago:

I've got three of these and they all have the large numbers.

Those are the 2nd print reprint variants! :baiting: - I love this hobby!!

  3. Thanks! Out of all the GI Joe episodes I must have seen when I was 12, I really just remember three things:

    1) this fabulous serpentor story arc with the raiding of the tombs of famous leaders to get all the DNA to make the perfect cobra leader - what a badazz story and so far ahead of its time

    2) that knowing was half the battle

    3) that zartan was kickspoon

I really loved the Serpentor story line in the comic. I thought the whole gathering DNA and even using Storm Shadows DNA to "freshen the stew" (I believed they called it) was a really cool idea back in the day! Of course I loved about every story line from issue 24 up to the 60's...

The sunbow series had some memorable moments but having everyone using laser guns use to drive me nuts! lol

  4. I picked this up, first Joe comic I've bought in a looooong time. Also bought a raw one and read the silent story for the first time ever. :o Awesome! Now I don't know why it took me 20 years to pick one up. doh!

:applause: I just don't understand why they quit printing the Yearbook's after #4... I always enjoyed them!!!

  5. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra

    G.I. Joe: Retaliation

While you can say that they were based on a toy, the characters themselves are based on the character developments that Larry Hama developed through the comic book series.

Hasbro told Marvel, we created some toys we want to market with a comic book. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow's back story and relationship and all the ninja stuff along with other character developments were influenced by Larry Hama. In fact:

GI Joe Rise of Cobra: Elements from GI Joe 26 and 27

GI Joe Retaliation: Reminded me a lot of issue 78 and every issue involving Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow after it is revealed that Zartan killed Storm Shadow's uncle.

Beat me to it! (thumbs u

  6. GI JOE maybe...

Started as a comic strip in 1937, first comic in 1950, over the last 60+ years titles published by Ziff Davis, DC, Marvel, Blackthorne, Hasbro, Dark Horse, Devils, Due, Image, and IDW. Not to mention its been published in 24 counties.

Major toy line for the last 60+ years.

One animated series, animated movies, and 3 live action movies and working on a 4th (mind you the first was horrid beyond believe, the last two progressively better)

GI Joe never gets any respect.... :sorry:

  7. My favorite GI Joe Christmas gift ever was the vehicle that made a bridge. Can't recall the name of it.

Toss n' Cross - Bridge Layer - driven by Toll Booth!!!

    1_zpsf495dd74.jpg

That's it, thanks for digging it up. Still seems both cool and mostly useless.

lol - I thought it was a very cool toy back in the day but it was probably because of this awesome TV commercial brain washing me!!!

  8. Plus with the Christmas season here I always think back to my favorite Christmases and what new GI Joe toys Santa brought me! lol

This brought a smile to my face.

Nothing will ever beat the Christmas when I got the USS Flagg Aircraft Carrier

Oh hell no! I would have krapped my pants if I had gotten that under the tree. I mostly got the planes, and figures. Never got into the big bases.

I'm with you; was never lucky enough for the big ones! Absolutely LOVED getting the vehicles and aircraft though.

I can't even image the number of "missions" my VAMP, WHALE, and Dragonfly went on as a kid!!!

  9. Well anyone keeping up with the IDW - GI Joe: ARAH? 200th issue coming up in a few months!

    - Celebrating with and GI Joe/Transformers series kickoff for Free Comic Book Day and Transformers issue 100 with a connected sketch cover by Robert Atkins: (different continuity of course)

I'm excited to see the series reach 200 (just bought the Hama sketch cover OA to celebrate!!)

Plus with the Christmas season here I always think back to my favorite Christmases and what new GI Joe toys Santa brought me! lol

  10. Long time lurker. First time poster. Just got back from CGC an America's Elite #11 Variant that graded at 9.8. Is mine the only 9.8 out there so far? It's not in the census yet but I have no idea how often they update. Had a So Much Fun #63 come back a 6.0 as well.

Made up for the not so nice grades my #155 and my Special #1 didn't come back with. (9.0 and 9.4).

Quick story on how I acquired my America's Elite #11. I was a comic retailer back when the issue was originally solicited. Since I had in my head at the time that I personally wanted one of every Joe comic to go with my original art collection I decided to actually order 200 of the damn book. We're talking a book that my chain of 3 stores would've only typically ordered 50 copies max between all the stores. Needless to say a lot of regular #11s were in our blow out stock at cons. I can't imagine there were many actual retailers who hit the required # to get the variant especially since it wasn't a #1 or seemingly a truly significant issue or even cover to warrant the order.

I know everyone here wants pics as proof so I'll try and post those this weekend. In the meantime you can view some of my art collection on CAF here:

Thanks in advance for any responses to my questions at the top of this post.

    Howie

    WTTB's!

    Awesome OA from 155!!!! (worship)

And excellent pick-up on the Elite #11 9.8!!!!!! :golfclap:

  11. Little help please, how is this a first print: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140492619666?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I thought the black spiderman head was the giveaway that it was a reprint? Then I found this one from the same seller and it is marked as a second print but I don't see any difference: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130499525701?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

    Thanks.

They're both second prints, CGC didn't mark the first one correctly, they missed that it was a second print. doh!

The seller probably didn't put on the invoice form that it was a second print, and CGC also missed it. :tonofbricks:

    (tsk) not so fast.

You can't just go by "Black Spidey" = 2nd print. It depends on the issue.

For example Joe #26 1st prints are the Black Spidey; however, the price changes from .60 to .75 on the 2nd printing.

Issues 18, 25, 29 and 30 you can't tell by the cover. Both the 1st prints and 2nd prints have the Black Spidey AND the same price.

Those books are probably graded correctly.

hm - never really paid attention to this before but my 9.8SS copy is the black spidey, the other image I pulled off E-Bay..... (my raw copies are so buried in the closet I don't even want to think about digging them out)
