Hi all! Some more art from the Billy Graham estate is ending at Heritage tonight, including a cool Eerie page and a near-complete story from Monsters Unleashed:
All proceeds from these auctions, other than the buyer's premium, will go to Billy Graham's family. Thanks, Lee

Hi all! There are some interesting pages from the estate of Billy Graham ending on Heritage tonight, including the complete 21 pages of art to Sabre #7: https://comics.ha.com/itm/original-comic-art/story-page/billy-graham-and-bruce-miller-sabre-7-complete-21-page-story-original-art-eclipse-1983-/a/322303-48137.s?ic2=myconsignmentspage-lotlinks-12202013&tab=MyConsignment-112816

Wow, what a fascinating letter, thanks for sharing! I can't believe Gerry Conway received complete books of art the way Ross described it. The next time I see Gerry at a show, I'll have to ask him.

Surprisingly, there were no pieces in the previous DC-heavy Heritage Signature auction that appeared in my archives of old original art comic ads, but the Signature auction that started up a few days ago includes a few pieces I had seen...before they went to Heritage:

Bump...the auction ends tomorrow, and this fascinating piece of Marvel Comics history is sitting at a very affordable price! Cheers, Lee

Hi all! I wanted to bring to your attention a consignment from the estate of inker Dave Hunt at the current ComicLink auction. As Dave related to me when we worked together on his 2018 autobiography, in the early to mid-1970s, Dave sat next to Frank Giacoia on a daily basis in the Marvel Bullpen. Dave and Frank shared inking duties on The Amazing Spider-Man, with Dave inking background images first, and then Frank inking the main figures.
Dave apparently made photocopies of his partially inked pages on a regular basis, perhaps to document his contributions to the final project. Dave's son ended up with a complete set of vintage photocopies of the partially inked interiors to Amazing Spider-Man #129. The auction listing above includes some images of the photocopies of the partially inked pages, and it is an interesting view into the creative process. Check it out, and better yet bid! The proceeds will go to Dave Hunt's family. Cheers, Lee

Hi Reggie and all! A few weeks ago I shared an image of a vintage photocopy of the partially inked page-one splash art to Amazing Spider-Man #129. This image was part of a full set of vintage photocopies of the complete interior art to ASM #129 from the Dave Hunt estate. When he started out at Marvel in the early 1970s, Dave sat in the Marvel Bullpen next to Frank Giacoia. Dave and Frank would work on issues of ASM together, with Dave inking the backgrounds and Frank inking the main characters. I assume that Dave made and kept photocopies of his inks on the partially inked pages to document his contributions to the finished art. Dave's estate has decided to auction this set of vintage photocopies at ComicLink:
I'm sorry I was not able to scan more images before this went to ComicLink, but ComicLink has provided a few additional scans. And any of you can now own it, with the auction proceeds going to Dave's family. Please feel free to share the auction listing. Thanks! Best regards, Lee

Michael I think he's just hoping for better buying opportunities. I'm with you that the OA market is still robust. Lee B. also mentioned about the 20 lots that were listed and disappeared after listing might be a collector wanting to spread out his consignments to maximize earning potential. They weren't necessarily withdrawn for fear of taking losses in a depressed value market. It's a peculiar spot to be in right? On the one hand we want the pieces in our collection to continue trending upwards in value. On the other we hope for signs of weakness in the market that may generate good buying opportunities. Having our cake and eating it too. Not sure we can have both but it's the dream.
Grapeape is correct, assuming the withdrawn lots relate to the consignor I had in mind. It's much more a matter of not wanting to "flood the market" with a lot of similar lots in one auction as opposed to fear of a crashing art market.

Sure Reggie, please feel free to share the splash on other forums! If anyone has questions about this material, please send them my way. Best, Lee

I had sent this batch of Heritage for one of their auctions, but Heritage decided to pass on it because perceived challenges in describing this kind of item. When I get it back, I will take some more photos or make some more scans while I try to find a better place to try to sell these on behalf of the Dave Hunt estate.

Yes, this photocopy is from Dave Hunt's estate. This stapled bunch includes photocopies of every page from ASM #129. Pretty cool!

On 9/15/2022 at 10:02 AM, allyz said:I know. I feel like this thread is now just a couple of sour people ranting at clouds over art they don't (and will probably never) own.
I am reluctant to play "flip thread police", but I think that cloud cloddie's recent offering probably falls under the heading of "provenance info" (hey, the New Mutants page has bounced around a bit over the past year+) rather than a "flip" of which potential buyers should be aware.
I think today's offering from Sean- is more in the spirit of the thread. Some folks have expressed an idea in the past that "dealers" can't really be "flippers" because the dealer business model is to buy or acquire art for a lower price to sell for a higher price. I can go either way on that point, depending on the circumstances, including the amount of time that has expired between listings and the price mark-up.
When I started this thread in 2017, I tagged it with the words "wishful thinking" and "homework". The post from Sean- shows us that a dealer won a piece on eBay a month ago and is offering it for 4X what he paid (wishful thinking?). The post from Sean- also shows us, if we weren't aware already, that Scott Hampton has been listing a lot of nifty art on eBay that has been going for fairly reasonable prices. That's the homework aspect of this thread that perhaps will help newer collectors realize that some original art asking prices are not totally reasonable, and that they should expand their horizons when trying to add pieces to their collections.
