...are nothing new. But you probably knew that already. I was reminded of that when I read a piece in Richard Halegua's Comic Art Graffix Gallery Newsletter (Winter 1992), concerning a Sotheby's comics and comic art auction. The main complaints seem to be conflict of interest and market manipulation (sound familiar?). The opinionated article is an interesting little read; I have included scans of it below. If anyone is interested in the comic art offered by Sotheby's in their 1990s auctions, I have uploaded 126 scans (and counting) from Sotheby's catalogs to www.comicartads.com Some uploads also include the final auction price, if the lot sold. Just search the word "Sotheby's" in the website's "Search Terms" box, and you can see all the scans. I have not been able to locate a price list for the 6/14/97 Sotheby's auction, so if anyone has a copy of those prices, please let me know. I admit I focus a bit more on non-Terry Austin-inked Byrne MTU pages and have been waiting for one of those panel pages to cross the $10K threshold. The lots are: 15 Artman catalogs (1984-1989) plus one Hugo's Collectibles catalog Collectors Showcase auction catalogs #4, #14, #16, #17, #19-23, #30, #32, #35, and #36 (1978-1981); many of the catalogs have lists of prices realized for the auction lots.
