  1. Thanks, Scrooge. I'd like to see the early Red Ryder reprinted also. I've never heard of Jerry Spring before but like what little I could see from internet searches (after sifting through the Jerry Springer items). I was aware of the Giraud Blueberry books but haven't read them yet. Are there any good English reprints of Jerry Spring or Blueberry that you would recommend? The only French I know is "ooo-la-la".
  2. A couple Broncho Bill comics. The #6 is a Schomburg cover.
  3. You're lucky it wasn't a 9.8. That would be a big chunk of change to fill that hole in your pedigree collection.
  4. Just a quick plug for our book at Canton Street Press. Our Canteen Kate book is nomiated for an Eisner this year (fingers crossed). I posted some pics of our book in the thread below and compared the two volumes. The Lost Art book is well done and each has its advantages. You can't go wrong with either book in my opinion. Of course, I'd prefer you bought ours If you buy it from our website (www.CantonStreetPress.com) you get your choice of a free print. No Baker, unfortunately, but some cool GA covers. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=323515&Number=7264701#Post7264701 Your book looks good but the first recommendation I got was for the other one, so that's the way I went.
  5. I haven't decided if I'm bidding on this yet, but if I do, my max bid will be put in Wednesday night or Thursday morning. I'll be on vacation and won't know if I won it until a week after it ends. Nice copy of your own.
  6. I have the Lost Art of Matt Baker book and I think it is well done. I'm not sure of the technical details of how the art was reproduced, beyond what they mention in a brief Editor's Note, but they appear to have scanned pages from the comics and then cleaned them up a bit. I think the result looks good and is much closer to reading the original comics than is the case with most reprint volumes. Here and there the color registration is a bit off -- almost always a problem with St. John comics. I don't have the other book, so I can't really compare them, but I think it would be hard to go wrong with this one. Very reasonable price of $20 on Amazon when I bought it. Thanks, Sqeggs. That's good enough for me. I like the reprints that resemble the original comic.
  7. I want to order one of the Baker Canteen Kate reprint books. Any recommendations on what one is better between the Canton Street Press version or the one from Picture This Press (Lost Art...)? They both came out within 2 months of each other.
  8. A bunch of cool books there jimbo. Great condition also. I especially like the Severin cover on WO #20. The train and the facial espressions do it for me on that one.
  9. Love that book. IIRC there's a killer Everett story inside also. Here's the Ohio copy. That's a beaut. Let me know when the sales thread starts.
  10. I love this Heath cover and was glad when I finally got it. It instantly went on my want list after first seeing it posted on the boards.
  11. Never seen the Champs before. Don't think I've seen a flying elbow to the back of the neck cover either. Great books.
  12. I love these Matt Fox covers and that's a great looking copy.
  13. "Classic Tiny Man cover." Great photo cover and also like the tiny man on a string in the YR #12. I'll have to read that one some day.
  14. Someone posted some Cowgirl Romances in the western thread a while ago, but since I already have plenty of westerns, I'll consider mine a romance comic and post it in this thread.
  15. It's funny how this thread has gone from "what are the rarest romance comics?" to "show your romance comics". Here's one of mine and I hope Bo Hogg doesn't mind.
  16. Can't ask for a better looking 2.0 than that. Nice pages too.
  17. Yes, this was from that batch of books and I already regret not bidding higher on some of them. The gun in the foreground collection would be cool. You'll finish yours before I finish my Atlas westerns with guns on the cover collection.
  18. Here's another Maneely cover with a two page Heath story.
  19. Here's a neat Maneely cover with photos of the Tomlinson cover story. (Need to work on the lighting next time).
  20. Great book. I've always wondered about that cover, though. There's Angel apparently dealing with one bomber while the rest of the bomber fleet is blowing the city to smithereens. (thumbs u Even though the swastika was disguised (probably intentionally), the symbolism is clear. This is obviously a WWII cover, maybe the first for a U.S. comic book. The contents triangle (right bottom) covers up the fact that he's jumping off the corner of a building to hang onto the plane's undercarriage. Alas, the Angel didn't have the gift of super powers like his costumed brethren, so his self-sacrifice in challenging the bomber blitzkrieg seems all the more heroic in light of his apparent impending doom. BTW, this cover has been attributed to "Claire Moe" (either a pseudonym or misattribution). The artist was Charles J. Mazoujian. Misattribution. There was a Claire Moe that worked for Centaur. sacentaur has books from her collection. Right - Claire S. Moe (CSM) is not the cover artist for MM 2, it's Charles J. Mazoujian (CJM). Mazoujian also did the cover for Target 3 (Funnies Inc.). Moe is probably best known for the 'Circus and Sue' (Funny Pages) feature at Centaur, but she did other filler strips as well (including for Fox). When Moe died (circa '83), her daughter sold the artist's collection to J&S Comics. They were then listed in CBG. I was the first caller on the ad and scooped up a sample group. When I called back to purchase more, I was informed that they were all sold (to jbcomicbox and a collector named Michael Music). Being the Timely thread, here is a representative sample book (with a Bill Everett cover): What a special book. That follow up call to J and S had to be disappointing though.
