  1. I think that was a terrific price for the 8.0 Mound Copy. If you read this thread around late August and early September (if I recall correctly), I have predicted the Mound Copy to sell around $15k-20k. There were a lot of pessimism of this speculative price, but it still ended selling at almost 20k. This is the second highest auction price for a SC22. I believe many Green Lantern collectors were waiting out to purchase a 9.2 and 9.4 copies of SC22, but it still has not turned up and they are left with a missing piece to their collections. It's like owning a run of high grade Amazing Spiderman, but missing a high grade AF15. (thumbs u I did not mean to say that it was a bad price by any means, but an outrageous price in my books would have been $25K - $30K. If the book was a nicer copy with pressing potential it probably would have hit that (or a bit higher), I guess. I agree at $25k-$30-k is an outrageous price and would have been an overbid. Your right about the Sinestro covers GL which can still be bought fairly cheap. Sinestro is like the Joker for Batman. (thumbs u
  2. Wow, possibly 9.2 too! my offer was shot down like bambi on the first day of hunting season Up the offer, then. Rick knows what the right price to pay and not to pay. You can't pay too much for a B&B 28. showcase22gr1959 and kimik, am I doing it right? No. Wait for Rick and I to acquire a few copies and we will show you how it's done. (thumbs u I'm satisfied with one copy for now...but who knows.

  4. Well, 4.0 copies with cream/off white pages are valued $1700-2000. Since this copy has off-white pages, I think it should be valued $2000-2200. But if it sells for above that, then it would be a record price. Showcase 22 has become the second most valuable DC Silver Age in terms of recent sales of 8.0 and under. (thumbs u I'm not saying that this price is aggressively out of whack (high, but not outrageously so) relative to recent sales; rather, I'm saying I outwardly have to wonder if this can continue upwards and onwards undeterred. In terms of selling price over the last year, we're close to tripling the sale price of VGs and up. The question I'm asking is, when does the correction come, and how drastic is it? I think for the short term copies 3.5 and under is taking a pause (which is healthy) and copies 6.0+ can still rise in the short term. The movie and the recent GL story lines is the driving forces for this double or you can say "tripling". Copies 2.5-3.5 are still more affordable for most collectors in the $900-$1400. Once Showcase 22 reaches near Showcase 4 levels, then it has definitely peaked.
  5. Very sharp copy. If there is no other hidden defects..I think it would definitely receive at least a 5.0 grade and possibly a 5.5. The slight water stain, might hold it back from a 5.5. This book is very difficult to score a 6.0. I just love that scan and below Green Lantern welcome you to the club.

  9. Thanks...I hope I was not going against you. I've been looking the last year for a descent copy. I just felt the 7.0+ is where it is scarce to find in high grade. Congrats Rich! As far as I'm concerned, it's the BEST SA cover out there. I love it and it beats the h*ll outta SC22's cover! I honestly wanted to bid on this book but I've been so busy at work...!!!!! Savor the aroma for both of us ! Thanks and merci for the congrats. It's good to be busy at work, so we can buy more books. (thumbs u
  10. Shouldn't you relabel this as the Heritage auction/Gary Keller copy? Good point...I'll make that on the next update.

  13. Whoever landed the 9.4 copy of GL #1 for $18K is laughing even more. That was you, right? Congrats! Those are great prices for GL1. Gl1 is like an Amazing Spiderman #1.
  14. You can't go wrong buying a #22 in 8.0 at that price. The 4 figure days are over for the upper class 22s... Man, where were you guys when the lesser of the 2 9.0 copies was selling on Heritage for less than the price of a 8.0 today? Buying Marvels. In 2011, some will say "where were you in 2009, you could have bought SC22 for 1/ 2 the price". Yesterday's Mound City auction is dominated by both DCs and Marvels, and we have seen some strong interest on SC22 8.0 (considered 9.2), and especially DC 9.0 and especially 9.2 and up. Marvel 9.4 and up is where the sweet spot is.
  15. My brother bought #76 off the stands. That should qualify us being in the GL fan club... Seems like buying quality material at the right price and holding has been a good choice for the last five years. Let's hold on for another five years and see how the market will be.
  16. I dropped out of bidding on the GL #7 when it passed the $2K mark. I really feel like a fool for selling my 9.2 a couple years back now. Yeah...I also stopped looking when it passed $2K. I couldn't imagine what your old GL 7 9.2 would sell for these days...whom would have known. Judging from the good results from this auction, the vintage comic market is very healthy. I really think quality material will always be in demand and good long term investments.
  17. The second highest GL 1 graded copy sold today by Mound City auction for $29000 plus buyer's premium. If Showcase 22 8.5 is the second highest copy, does that mean it is also value around at least $29000 and 9.0 at least $40000. That 8.0 is a steal at $17850.

  19. You have to keep in mind there are four 8.0's. An 8.5 or a 9.0 may sell a little bit more or a bit less...this is just my estimate. Also, page quality will play a factor in adding a premium. Peewee2 7.5 off-white/white is just as nice as the Mound Copy
  20. How so??? Right in line with valuations... Below is a list of the current estimate prices I think SC22 should be valued at. Of course, the prices are for cream/off white pages, but if your copies have higher page quality add a 10%-25% premium. 9.2 $80000-$100000 9.0 $40000-50000 8.5 $30000-35000 8.0 $15000-20000 7.5 $10000-12000 7.0 $7500-8500 6.5 $6000-7000 6.0 $5000-5500 5.5 $3500-4000 5.0 $2500-3000 4.5 $2000-2300 4.0 $1700-2000 3.5 $1300-1500 3.0 $900-1200 2.5 $800-900 2.0 $600-700 That's correct...let's not get to a head. This is very healthy. Imagine the winner must be so happy.
  21. This is still very descent...since we would have never thought a 8.0 would be a five figure book a year ago. This will definitely bring up the price for 6.0 and above.
