  1. Had my household chortling to. "Chortling" in the new LoL'ing.
  2. 2mins of added Drogba time ITV commentary has instantly gone up in my estimation.
  3. Jack Hatfield's I also remember another "Bookshop" on Borough Road. It sold, books, mags and toys. A little bit like FP, but with blacked out windows Before I headed south, and away from the treasure chest that was Book's 'n' Comics, I also used to buy a lot of comics from a run down second hand book store in the precinct near to the post office (Down the side of McDonalds). The elderly owner had a huge amount of midgrade bronze and copper stock and very little knowledge about them. I picked up a mid grade run of Daredevil (50 - 200) and about a longbox full of Fantastic Fours for about 20p an issue. All great reader copies. I've still got the DD's and sold the FF's for 50p each a few years later. I've only ever been in the Boro FP once and like you, I managed about 30 seconds. Redcar car boot sale was also good to spot some bargains. That's where I picked up my run of Marvel Super Heroes, Hulk Weeky's and Spidey Weekly's for 10p each Mmmmmm....UK reprints
  4. Beautiful book and I'm happy to say, it's significantly older than me
  5. This post perked my interest to pop in on my way home from work. Nothing much had changed other than the sign in the window stating the store was closing down at the end of the month. I any other store (FP excluded) my inner vulture would come to the surface to begin negotiating a deal on any floppy or HC stock. Having already witnessed the handling skills of the staff I left them alone, grabbed a pack of backing boards and made my exit.
  6. No inconvenience, Unlike Comics General we are all fairly friendly in these parts In the past I've only ever subbed my own books directly to CGC (Other than Subbing via DesertWind at LSCC). In the future, I'll be using the service provided by Comicana Direct. Nick (Flaming_Telepath) offers a pre-screening service so at least you know you won't get burned on any 9.6 and below. As for price, not sure try and PM him for a quote. Quickest? Guess you haven't subbed to CGC before, they are renowned for their lack of speed in getting books back. My advice, always select a fast track teir if you need your books back in a hurry the extra £7 guarantees they will be graded in under 10 working days. CGC are currently still grading modern tier books subbed in early Feb. The fast track books I subbed at LSCC were back in my hands in under 4 weeks. My non-fast track sumission from the same day will prob not be back home till mid May at the earliest
  7. Orbital is the only LCS I visit when heading to London. FP is an utter **spoon**hole wherever they are. I think the best LCS I've ever visited was the one in Middlesbrough I used to frequent as a kid - Books 'n' Comics. There may be a little nostalgia applied but it's where I spent a hefty chunk of my teenage years (And cash). For a tiny store (Proabably 3m by 6m), he had a huge amount of back issue stock and could usually source most books he didn't have in store. When I moved to Derby, I was spoilt for choice. Another World, Forbidden Planet, Travelling Man plus a fairly decent low grade back issue seller in the indoor market. I worked in Notts so also had access to Page 45 (One of the best non-back issue sellers out there). Derby now has no LCS and the nearest is an awful little MTG-focussed store in Ripley. His stock handling skills are that bad, that about 2 years ago I gave up on the LCS completely, favouring the internet or digital comics.
  8. I sadly miss all mine. Marvel Super-Heroes Hulk Weekly Spider-Man Weekly (And later) Punisher Weekly Then you've got all the stuff I was practically raised on; Action Force Transformers Secret Wars The only UK stuff I've got left these days are my Dragon's Claws and Deaths Head (Although there may be some Sleaze Brothers lurking in a longbox somewhere)
  9. I loved that series. I remeber picking up issues 1 - 8 from a car boot sale in Redcar back when I was a teenager (10p each). Absolutely loved them. Unfortunately, 4 house moves have occured and in that time they seem to have gotten lost Great pick up.
  10. Spotted this myself earlier today on GPA. $306??? Always loved the cover. Now, thanks to a certain French mutant and the success of Uncanny X-Force this seems to be the new NYX 3
  11. Amen to that. Just cost me £50 on a bet of at least 1 goal in the match. Stupid foreigners and their poxy boring no goal strategies.....
  12. WTTBs +1 This thread my be inane, infrequently visited and generally off-topic but it's home
  13. First set of submissions from LSCC came back yesterday. Also my first ever Sig Series subs. Apologies for the poor scans, my scanner has died so I had to scan them at the office on their shoddy excuses for IT. Thanks to DWC for facilitating (And especially to LloydJBailey for donating his red paint pen to Simon Bisley for the Aliens sig). Also thanks to Chromium for his fantastic guide on safely cracking slabs to allow me to re-home the NM 18 into it’s new yellow label slab. First up New Mutants18, signed by Stan Lee and Bill Sienkiewicz. Strange how much Bills sig has changed from the one originally used on the cover art (Just to the left of Dani’s head). I’m a little peeved with Stan’s sig, he seemed to use the fattest tipped silver pen available (Despite me handing him a mid sized tipped one I’d brought specifically for the sig). The fat tip makes the sig look a little blurred. Next, Uncanny X-Men 514b signed by Stan. Finally, DHP : Aliens signed by Simon Bisley ( Aliens + Bisley + 9.8 = ) Now I’m just waiting on the non fast track moderns and my economy fast tracks to come home.
  14. Without sounding too brutal, they've had it on the cards for a long time now. Simply too expensive and with Amazon, Play and ShopTo doing zero day deliveries (And actually guaranteeing your pre-order rather than just adding your name to a first come, first served list) it's a no-brainer who I'd buy my games from. Any news on Gamestation as I think they were bought out by Game recently.
  15. Good work fella. I'd expect that to increase again in the last few mins once the snipers start kicking in. Drinks are on you then
  16. I'm still worried that they are going to ship back to the right place! Having to put "U.K." in the column where U.S. customers would put the state they live in still have me a little worried. I'm not a paid member so I can't check on my invoice number. Should I send them an email?? Sorry for the delay. Hope all that popcorn hasn't had any adverse health effect. You should have the invoice number on your green submission slip. You can still e-mail them and ask for an update (Just state they were subbed via DWC). On a side note, just checked the Census and all the count on sig series for all 3 has increased by 1. All 9.8
  17. Quick update. Just e-mailed them. Their postage system automatically picked up that my postcode was in the UK so no need ot worry about yours.
  18. I'm still worried that they are going to ship back to the right place! Having to put "U.K." in the column where U.S. customers would put the state they live in still have me a little worried. I'm not a paid member so I can't check on my invoice number. Should I send them an email?? I wouldn't worry. All my previous submissions have stated UK in the "State" box. I suppose an e-mail couldn't hurt to be on the safe side. On the other hand, just looking at my 3 sub forms, none actually state UK anywhere. Guess I'd best send them a mail...
  19. 10 working days since CGC recieved the DWC submissions from LSCC. Fast track moderns should be graded at some point today (Confirmed via e-mail from them). Heres hoping my 9.8 New Mutants 18, 9.8 Dark Horse Presents and 9.8 Uncanny X-Men 514 frame variant all maintained their grade after cracking, signing and subbing 2 weeks remaining on my economy fast tracks and modern non fast tracks.
  20. I too have bought supplies form him many times with no problem. I use Volstors for my UXM collection and as far as I know, Incognito are the only current UK retailer. Bags, boards and boxes are all reasonably priced and shipped quickly. I've met Dave several times and found him to be a jolly nice bloke. I also did some test purchases about a year ago. Bought a dozen copper UXM's all advertised NM. Specifically asked him for his nicest copies. The best I got back was 9.2
  21. +1 I really believe that LSCC has given the UK industry a well deserved kick to the nadgers. Wandering raound the stalls and listening to the conversations between buyers and dealers there were obviously a lot of noobs / starters asking genuine questions about starting up a collection and grading (Every time I passed Nick he was giving someone advice on what to buy). Combine that with the sudden lack of Forbidden Planet and the other usual suspects **cough-Incognito-cough** (Probably due to the self awareness that their own stock and grading would be laughed out of the water) it shows that UK collectors are now becoming more decerning and demanding of quality. With demand comes supply
  22. +1 Great looking books (Although Stan could have been a little more discerning with his sig location). I Contacted CGC earlier in the week and it looks as though all the DWC shipment arrived at some point last week. Hopefully my fast track moderns will be graded during the next week I'll probably see Christmas before my economy sub sees these fair shores again
  23. I remember buying my copy from my LCS back in the day with no problems. I don't remember it stating not for sale in UK but it's been a while since I sold mine. Great series. Clive Barker is a legend!
  24. Just bought a dozen Hellblazer 9.8's and was very impressed. Jim went out of his way to answer international shipping questions. I'd be happy to buy from him anytime.
  25. i wonder if that person was they same ones opposite Nick last week, they had the same thing I think it was Scott's Collectables OT - Darren, those Bat books are on their way however I forgot to include the scan disk, it'll follow 1st class Back On Topic. I stopped going to the Golden Orbit marts several years ago. They are great if you are after low grade readers (I managed to pull the entire run of Animal Man for about £30 once). After my slight overspend at LSCC, I'll be giving Kapow (And the rest) a miss in 2012. I'm already saving for LSCC 2013
