Grading Question about 8.5 Grade
seanfingh replied to Richard Aliff's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I will try to not sound like a jerk when I say this, but you guys need to learn how to grade to CGC standards. I also was expecting all 9.8-10.0 grades when I sent in my first submission. I got a lot of 9.6s and 9.4s that I didn't understand until I really started digging in to the process of grading, evaluating each and every book that came into my hands, and examining graded books very closely. If you don't know how to grade, then your expectations have no merit AT ALL. It's also clear that both of you think pressing works like a time machine and makes bad books good. It doesn't - only pressable defects can be fixed and there are many defects that are made worse by pressing, especially by DIY or wack "professional" pressing. For everyone getting into the graded game, you have two choices - spend the time and get the skills or buy whatever graded book you decide is right for you and your budget. -
I didn't notice it until you said something, but now I can't unsee it. It is very distracting. I'm sorry about that, bud.

"Like" doesn't even scratch the surface. I would have checked "Coolest book I've seen in years!" The Tony Montana side is absolutely, completely LIT!!

Would Getting A Roy Thomas Sig Bring Value?
seanfingh replied to RobHW's topic in The Signature Room
37 has a Neal Adams covers. Neal has been a pretty prolific SS signer. Barry Smith has done a microscopic fraction of NA books. That leaves Roy Thomas, Stan Lee and maybe some celebrities for the rest of the books. The reason for more 37s is almost certainly Neal Adams. For 18+ years, people have been doing SS Books for reasons that have nothing to do with ROI. That is not an effective way of analyzing what may have been done and why. -
Looking for CGC Witnesses for own project
seanfingh replied to ENCODE Graphics's topic in The Signature Room
It sounds like he is really looking for facilitators who might be able to help him, and is just using "witnesses" as more of a generic term. From my experience, facilitators rarely want to get involved in this type of thing, because the parties don't want to pay very much for the service. -
When was one of Stan Lees last signings?

Pimps don't use correct English. Pimps pimp. -
Carmine Infantino was going to be at either NYCC or the Carbo show in the early 2010s. I had several books ready for him, but I really wanted a Batman 181. Bought one at my LCS 7.0-7.5 shape with great gloss. I never looked at it, just put it in the window bag and shipped it with everything else to the facilitator. When I got it back - it was a 0.5 because the pinup was missing. UGH.

Personalized Message During Signature Event
seanfingh replied to Todd Andrew's topic in The Signature Room
I have a bunch of stuff that was personalized. Mostly from situations where I had a great interaction with the signer and they asked me what my name was. Laurie Holden, P. Craig Russell, Robert Rodriguez, Corey Feldman all personalized. And they were all great because I had a really good time with all of them. If you are not going to be at the signing, put a big sticky note with the person's name and the message at the top of the window bag. It may not get done, but it may. Good luck! --Sean. -
I have to tell my Anthony Daniels story. I was helping Richie out at one of the WWChicago cons. It was the same year I met Ralph Macchio, who was so friendly and engaging. I can’t remember how many Star Wars guys were there or even if there were any other Star Wars guys. But I had two books in my hand that needed Daniels and one that didn’t. He was about $40 a sig at the time and he wasn’t ticketed, so you just paid him at the table. I handed him the $80 and had him sign the two books. He reached for the third and I was like “no, you don’t need to sign that.” I think either he had already signed it long before or it was just a two character cover and they didn’t want other actors. He got so ticked off that I wasn’t going to pay him to sign the third book. He was like “I’m Anthony Daniels blah blah blah.” Finally I was like “Man these aren’t my books. So I can’t do what other people don’t want me to do.” He got even more ticked off and went off on EBay and told me I was a leech and a dirtbag. It was great.

Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE on HBO Max (3/18/21)
seanfingh replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
Just watched it. It was really really good. And filled in so many of the head scratching moments from the Whedon version. here is what I need help with: That was my only problem other than the shirt sniffer, which I see was just as problematic for others as it was for me.- 2,340 replies

I would suggest you email the outfit that is handling the signing. The cutoff for submission is in two days. Or you could keep asking questions to people who have no affiliation whatsoever with the signing. Either way, good luck.

Kat Dennings signing?? What comic do I give her?
seanfingh replied to Falcon760's topic in The Signature Room
I would want her on a WandaVision related book. I thought she was super annoying in the Thor movies, but enjoyed her on WV.
