He's the worst. The definition of smarmy. Any time I've seen anything from him it feels like I'm watching a used car salesman peddle snake oil.
His voice and delivery is annoying as F.

On 8/12/2022 at 12:02 PM, CGC Mike said:We feel it is important to provide transparency on how CGC arrived at our method of certifying Clayton Crain’s Ultimate Fallout comics with the attached acetate covers. For us, this was an unprecedented item to grade. After Mr. Crain spoke with us prior to C2E2, the rules we applied to his books:
- The additional cover had to be created by an established artist in the industry.
- The comic to which the cover was attached had to contain a cover by that same artist.
- A copy of the comic with the attached cover had to be submitted to us for inspection prior to certifying any copies.
Given the recent circumstances, we have made adjustments to the labeling originally used for the Ultimate Fallout exhibiting the acetate cover. Going forward, any copies submitted to CGC will display in the label text: "In God We Intrust" Acetate Artist Cover attached with 2 staples after manufacturing. The books will still be allowed to receive a Universal label.
This will also apply to Mr. Crain’s forthcoming copies of Ghost Rider #1 and Deadpool Nerdy 30 #1 that contain an acetate cover.
Ok, but how did this net so many 9.9s and a 10??

For instance in the ASM 583 Variant, the Future President is shown against a flag with only 9 stripes. So I would actually expect them to mis-depict the flag, which is the highest honor you can give the flag (since its not supposed to be depicted on any product)
If you really get into the flag codes, it should never have been used in the artwork at all.

I don't think anyone has promoted competitors better in the last 24h than CGC
They been doing a pretty good job the last year or so.

I was at C2e2 and if I’d caught wind of all this while I was there instead of after I got home, the book I bought at the show I wanted slabbed would have undoubtedly been left with the competitors.

I would appreciate it if everyone would leave the competitors out of this discussion.
Understandable. However, if your company had made the right move those posts would have never been there.

While we allow criticism. we do not allow promoting the competitors. Keep that in mind when posting.
What about posting criticism from the competitors?

as @Ryan. pointed out earlier, the "Eclipse" archives stamp was added afterwards (over 10 years) by a retailer, not by the publisher (no longer existed) and CGC graded these
I don’t see a 9.9 or a 10 here.

You forgot to mention the recent fiasco prior to C2E2:
- Omits crucial information from labels (such as tape on cover, staples added, etc.) despite the overwhelming opposition from collectors.
Also, this info in not in the graders notes for any of the c2e2 exclusives Ive checked.

How hard would it have been to admit that you guys mistook them for manufactured books instead of aftermarket bootlegs and you won’t do it again? Fail.

On 8/9/2022 at 1:07 PM, CGC Mike said:Here is the official response from CGC regarding how we graded the books.
We apologize for the short response yesterday and wanted to follow up with an explanation of our thought process behind the grade assignments. We treated them as we would any other variant cover that's attached with an extra set of staples after the book was printed, and at times these books included the original cover as well.
There is a precedent for acetate covers being attached to a printed book, and then graded by CGC. An example is Stray Dogs #1 from last year. An acetate variant cover was attached with an extra set of staples, to which CGC assigned a Universal grade and a notation of “acetate cover” on the label. The extra set of staples were part of the manufacturing process of attaching the acetate cover, and not considered a defect.
Ok if I’m reading this correct, you graded it as you would any book where the cover was added AFTER the manufacturing process. But then you used stray dog 1 as your precedent, even though that extra cover was done DURING the manufacturing process. Not the same thing guys.

I have a good few thousands batman legends of the dark knight. I can't freaking wait to make a limited edition home made cover on top of the drek.
Dont forget to charge $85 for them, and then when you are running low, up the price to $100 like Black Flag did
