  1. I'll still consider the 77-78 stuff "Whitman" copies, whatever small percentage that was sold outside of the Whitman program doesn't compel me to call these (early) direct editions, mainly due to my experience when I started frequenting comic specialty shops (which was right after the price changed to $0.40) I don't recall any of the comic shops selling back issues of the big diamond variety, basically the 35 cent era back issue stock at comic shops were always newsstand copies.

  2. "We had worked together for years, on all types of strips and stories.  Most importantly, we had a unique successful method of working.  I had only to give Jack an outline of a story and he would draw the entire strip, breaking down the outline into exactly the right number of panels replete with action and drama.  Then it remained for me to take Jack's artwork and add captions and dialogue, which would, hopefully, add the dimension of reality through sharply delineated characterization."

Is it because they are all "Whitmans"? No...it's because they are all Direct copies. The argument can be made, of course, that Marvel just expanded what they were already doing with Western to the whole Direct market...but that doesn't work. Why? Because Western did not return books. It wasn't their business model.

Isn't NOT returning books consistent with the direct market?   I don't understand why this point helps your theory in any way....the big black Diamond inhibited returns from either customer who enjoyed "non-returnable" pricing discounts. (shrug)

I don't think there's anything here to support your later assumption that the Diamond cover format was not for them it was for everyone else.

Edi- Maybe I'm misreading the point you're trying to make here. (shrug)

  4. The Human Fly first appearance notation in ASM Ann 10 is likely proof of Overstreet not keeping up since that "at that time" one and done character wasn't going to reappear in ASM for another year BUT the real life Human Fly (different character) had gotten his own short-lived title when this Overstreet came out.

I can't believe that 1) This thread was never/has not been LOCKED. 2) That i just spent an hour of my life reliving this mess. 3) How much my life has changed, yet ironically remains quite similar, with almost a Decade passing....that being said...I'm going SURFING... :headbang:

    IN BEFORE THE LOCK!!! :whee:

Cliff notes?  I recall this as "someone cpr'd my book and sold it back to me"   I ain't reading 87 pages. :whatev:

This is apparently all explained in the Comics Journal Library: Frank Miller. I don't think I've read my copy. I'll have to dig it out.

I recall reading about it in TCJ at the time....also relevant is the old Marvel Comics indexes also had an explanation (the index only covered up to issue 181 because 182 hadn't come out yet when the index was printed)

Let the past die. Kill it - if you have to.

Rehashing the same old :censored: around here is getting kind of annoying now (regardless of who revives the same-old topic). It was entertaining for awhile, but the same people saying the same f-ing things has not worked, and will not work.

Talking to/about each other hasn't worked. Therapy (moderation) hasn't worked. Just get over it. Everyone.

For people who seem to want to "ignore" one another - you (not just you, specifically, kav) sure think about each other at the turn of a dime.

Nobody matters. We're all equally worthless. Just accept the fact, gracefully.

    Exactamondo! (Sp?)

my auctions I do assign a numeric grade ( against many of your valued suggestions here on the Boards )  / using few words / 9-12 hi-res pics of both covers, corners, edges, notable flaws,  and spine.

To @icefires point - who the hell am I? - what makes my grading so wonderful?  - he’s right! (thumbsu

I try to give my buyers as much info as possible, so they can make an informed buying decision on a raw comic purchase, based on my experience —- which gives back to the ENTIRE point I’d like to make here:

the showcase-4 grading scale is a good faith opinion ONLY! If you want a confirmed grade, spend more and buy a CGC certified book!

If I was so great, this thread wouldn’t exist - because my raw  showcase-4 9.8 grade would have matched the CGC grade! ( 9.6 )

lol exactamundo, other than the fact that you do none of the things he suggested when selling on ebay.

  9. Welcome, if you're looking for that many books I'd suggest creating a "want to buy" (WTB) thread in that subforum listing the books you are seeking along with desired grades.  You'll also get better responses in that thread if you provide an estimated amount you're willing to pay because people won't dig around for stuff unless you seem like a serious buyer.  When I had to fill in some of my 90's gaps in some runs I did it through ebay 10 years ago and didn't get totally  crushed because I got most of it in big chunks from bigger sellers like mycomicshop and fantasy-comics.

Of course the success of your thread will depend on what you're looking for, if it's something like the Byrne FF run or 50 X-Men or Wolverine comics you'll do okay, if you just want to get ebay alerts on the hot 200 comics listed in the key collector app then you probably won't get much feedback to a WTB

Read the post-golly I never thought of that!!

If that's ebay's policy then that's their policy.  People buying raws shouldn't be able to get a guaranty if the book comes back lower grade than listed.  You want a guaranty buy a slab.  2c

So lying about the nature of CGC's product (hint: It's not permanent) in order to fit into one of ebay's policies is okay with you?

What is his option?  List a raw grade and guaranty the grade much like CGC?  If you buy raw you dont get a guaranty it's a no-brainer.

The grade isn't the issue presented, this guy is saying that if you tell ebay that a book you sold grades lower than you stated after being sent to CGC, then all you have to do is tell ebay that it has been "permanently encapsulated".

I recommend reading the first post in the thread. 2c

Is this what happened?  Did you list the book as a 9.8 and CGC graded it as 9.6?

You seem to be skirting around that issue a bit.  Because, my POINT is that your POINT might be irrelevant to many people based on what the actual grades were.

If these were the actual grades, then I certainly believe the buyer was being unreasonable and you deserved to win the case and have a valid POINT (capitalizing is fun!).

Sure but it appears the case was won on appeal primarily because the seller claimed the item was now "permanently encapsulated"....I can sympathize with sellers getting screwed over for minor grade discrepancies...but to come on here and claim a "win" over what could be an irrational buyer by misrepresenting the nature of CGC's product on their chat board to trick ebay into siding with you seems like the actions of an individual without empathy. :D

So I ordered a comic from the site ComicXposure.com and it’s been a month now without receiving any email about my comic. I just recently have read the not so good reviews on the company. They won’t answer my calls or respond to my emails. I’m afraid I won’t get my money back and I’m not sure what to do. Can anyone help me out?

Here's a search of board discussions.  You can read from there or fine tune the search to "title"  good luck :frown:

  14. The reason there is a gap in GPA results and the prices you see for available books for sale is because you chasing a couple movie books with some social media heat and all the available "inventory" priced at "market value" have been scooped up by people waiting for someone dumb or impatient enough to pull the trigger on an overpriced one so that the next guy who is checking GPA daily sees that an ASM 13 actually sold for the price that currently seems absurd and then complains about it in his thread that they're only available for $200 more than the last time it sold.
