  1. Ok..... everyone who is a collector say "Aye". We should have this figured out shortly.
  2. Dude, that's one sweet painting! Was that the cover of something?
  3. This is exactly what I do. I find "deals" on comics I don't care about, buy them, and flip them to buy comics I DO care about. My goal is to fully pay for the comics I want with the money from comics I flip.
  4. I was looking thru my "Photo Journal Guides to Comics" and there was a graph listing the estimated number of comic collectors from the years 1962 - 1995. The final amount for 1995 showed about 35,000 collectors (I'm not sure how they determined that number). So, here we are in 2020. How many comic collectors are there now? Hopefully more than 35,000. Is the number going up or down? I suspect down, but I'm not 100% sure.
  5. Shill bidding undermines the integrity of any auction. I know it happens on ebay, but I don't think Heritage would want that sort of reputation. I suppose it happens though.
  6. While I think you overpaid for this book, it is gorgeous, and the white pages are certainly a premium. You just had the misfortune of getting in a bidding war with another collector who wanted it. I absolutely agree with your statement that this comic has a rosy future. In 5 years I'm betting your $9000 investment will look like a deal. I had a 9.4 a few years back and I really have NO idea why I let it go. SS1 is one of my favorite all time books, both inside (great story) and out. I love SS4 too.
  7. Is the Circe appearance going to make this book jump much? It perked my interest enough to dig it out of one of my longboxes.
  8. Not perfect by any means, but all around pretty nice mid grade. Everything is solid at the staples.
  9. Yes, SS1 is going strong but THIS particular comic is an outlier. The very next month an SS1 9.4 sold for $4500. I still think for short term growth SS1 will outperform SC22
  10. Occam's razor doesn't apply to many solutions in comics, as can be seen in many panels of this thread.
  11. yeah, thee's no way those are the real word balloons.
  12. Wow, without the word balloons this is such a bad bad bad cover. Horrible.
  13. Speaking of perspective, when I first saw the panel I thought it was Giantman.
  14. Aren't Slingshots supposed to have an opening in the end for the projectile to shoot thru? The engine is going to bounce off the tire strap between DDs feet. It's going to be a big mess. Maybe because he's blind he didn't see this problem?
  15. Graders notes: "Light spine stress to the cover." Hmmmmm.... I'll have to get out my electron microscope to find it I guess.
  16. I decided to send this Durango Kid 2 in for grading. It was one of the comics I bought from the collection I started this thread about. It got a 9.2 with WHITE pages. That ties it with the Edgar Church copy for the highest on the census. For those of you who bought some of these from me..... you will be quite happy when you send them in.
  17. SOOO dumb! J'onn spots a guy burning leaves "miles away" and is somehow able to blow the leaves into a circle around the villain to defeat him. Really? The writer couldn't think of a better idea than that? His lung capacity must be greater than Superman's. How was he able to get the leaves to specifically come to where he was. He probably started a few forrest fires along the way.
  18. Just got these back from CGC. ALL came back better than I thought they would grade. TOS 43 & 45 are coming back as 7.0s TOS 48 is a 7.5 TOS 47 & 53 are 8.0s TOS 52 is a 7.0
  19. It's coming back as a 9.4 with WHITE pages. Dang, I really wanted a 9.6 on this one. Still a nice book with WHITE pages.
  20. Grade is FINALLY in (value submissions take SOOOOO long) It's coming back as a 9.2 Universal with WHITE pages. Wow, nice book! (I feared it might be trimmed, but it wasn't). This one is tied with the Edgar Church copy for the Highest grade on the census.
  21. If you're interested in having the splash page to complete it, PM me, I might be able to help.
  22. I'm going to go with SS1 especially if you're looking at the 5 year window. It's hard to predict 10 years out. It's already had a big surge this last year but I think there's still room to grow. Too bad you weren't having this debate 2 years ago when you could have latched onto a SS1 9.6 for as low as $4200.
