  1. The guy selling this Voldy apparently didn't hear about the "cut rate prices" for Voldy slabs. $25,000
  2. I had a request from a collector who lived by me to see my raw Wonder Woman 1. When he came over the first thing he did was smell the comic, which put a big smile on his face (and mine). One thing about slabbing comics is that we lose that awesome "old paper" smell.
  3. There is a light crease in the upper corner of the back cover.
  4. FF 1 is on FIRE!!! Even restored copies. A Purple C-3 1.8 trimmed/married just sold YESTERDAY (July 8) for basically $3000. Last week a purple B-4 .5 "wrong back cover" sold for $2500. I know you're disappointed with the resto but don't worry, you've got a valuable comic there. Since it already has Amateur CT (which is VERY difficult to remove) you may want to consider having more CT done to it to bring it up in grade. I'm not sure how much it would cost but it would sure make it look nicer.
  5. Hi, welcome to the boards. It's best to post pics of these individually OUT of the mylar and put a back cover shot with it. Also, there is a 3 comic limit per 24 hours. My best guess from what I can tell from your small photo (with comics still in the mylar and no back cover photos) these are all lower grade and probably not worth sending in for Pro grading. Nice find though.
  6. I'm surprised you didn't ask CGC this question before you sent it in the 1st time. Reslabbing an AF15 is expensive. I believe it would have an 80% chance at a 1.5 "conserved" label if you had the two pieces archivally taped on, and a 20% chance at a 1.8 "conserved label (in this case you really don't have to use any expensive pro conservation technique on it since the book is such low grade. A couple of small 1/8" square pieces of archival tape on the inside cover should be enough to hold the pieces in place for reslabbing). Which would you rather have.... a 1.0 blue like it is right now, or a 1.5 or 1.8 "Conserved". I think most people would want the Blue label, but I think I am one who probably take the 1.5 / 1.8 conserved. I hate the idea of those loose pieces being outside of the slab and possibly getting lost. If you decide to stay with your Blue label MAKE SURE those pieces NEVER get separated from the slab. Value-wise I think a 1.0 blue would be worth bout the same as a 1.5 or 1.8 conserved. Like almost everyone has said in your thread, this is a gorgeous 1.0. Maybe the best I've ever seen.
  7. I just sent off 3 Archie comics to CGC. Give me your grade thoughts and I'll let you know what the grades are when they come back. Nice copy with just a little general wear.
  8. I just sent off 3 Archie comics to CGC. Give me your grade thoughts and I'll let you know what the grades are when they come back. Biggest flaw on this one is some foxing or sun shadow at the top of the back cover. I love the date stamp on the front.
  9. I just sent off 3 Archie comics to CGC. Give me your grade thoughts and I'll let you know what the grades are when they come back. Here is Archie 50. Looks nice with just a little wear around the Staples. Bright colors. Cover & cf are snug.
  10. Is this what inspired Leah's look?
  11. I have to admit the proportions are WAAAAY off, but I still think it's an ok painting. AH's proportions are always spot on (he works from photos, right?). Maybe if it was cropped more like this..... I actually really like the face.
  12. Your "hidden contents" are spot on. I would have not made that conclusion if you hadn't pointed it out, but you're 100% right.
  13. You're right, I did make assumptions, the biggest of which was assuming nothing about the book had changed (perhaps a press and a dry erase?). I just looked back at the HA photos and compared it to the Ebay auction photos and sure enough all the writing was taken off the back cover. I still think a 5.0 is a bit high for that comic given all the stains (did you see the back cover?). I will also concede that perhaps the CGC grade was a bit tight. I wonder if they downgraded for the weird printing flaw.
  14. The colors are gorgeous on that. WOW How can that be almost 60 years old?????
  15. I like the painting. A talented artist painted it. But it doesn't look like Adam Hughes style. How do we get Adam to weigh in on this?
  16. That's a huge difference too. There's going to be outliers on both sides, but I think I've witnessed many more examples of Voldy's grading a little looser than CGC. Maybe CGC decided to really tighten up their grading when Voldy started their business. 7 years ago my personal grading was tighter than CGC, but now it seems every time I send a comic in to CGC they grade it tighter than me. I'm actually kind of frustrated by it. But I still prefer CGC to Voldy.
  17. Nope, that's not it (although it's similar). It's this one: https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/fantastic-four-1-marvel-1961-cgc-vg-35-off-white-pages/a/121212-14210.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 It was in a CGC case graded at 3.5 and sold for $3100. Now someone has now switched it to a Voldemort and now it's suddenly a 5.0 voldy on ebay being sold for $25,000. Unbelievable! Another reason to stay away from Voldemort.
  18. Has anyone ever seen this printing defect before? Apparently the Mole Monsters mouth's color-inks were laid down in the wrong order or 1 layer of ink was left out. It looks like a color touch, but it's not. It's kind of a bizarre variant that I have not seen.
  19. "addictive", I like that. I find that whenever I see a pence copy my heart starts racing a little bit. It's the same as when I spot "price variants" of Marvel Bronze that the seller didn't spot. So, I noticed that the CGC census for FF 4 pence has only 1 copy listed, but when I checked GPA data they show sales of 4 copies in varying grades. So the Census has not been updated I guess. Still, FF 4 is a pretty rare Pence to find. I'm really happy to have this one.
  20. How often do you see this one? The CGC census shows only 1 that has been graded. Are these really that rare? Or no one slabs these?
  21. Just added an FF 4 Pence copy to my "hoard". These Pence copies fascinate me. A fun niche to collect, and super rare. There are over 1000 cent copies on the CGC census, but only ONE pence copy on the census (a 3.0). This one would only grade out at 1.5-1.8 but I'm happy to have it.
  22. I've never seen "slightly Brittle pages" as a qualification before.
