  1. Would it be better to not even release it and take the financial loss, rather than to release it and take on all of the criticism and ridicule? It really looks bad to me.
  2. haha.... I figured you'd be able to tell. It's the image of Spiderman right in the middle of the front cover. Notice everywhere where the background is slightly darker. It's a large piece. Apparently a kid clipped out spidey right from the middle of the cover. He didn't even come in from the edge with the scissors, he clipped right from the middle. By some miracle the inside cover advertisement matches perfectly where the replacement happened.
  3. I know this is hard to believe when you see that water stain, but there is no rust on the staple (it has not been replaced), there is no sign of rust migration to the interior pages either. I was thinking 4.0 myself on this and will be very happy if it gets a purple 4.0. I just wonder to what degree they assess the resto. It's a large piece replacement, but there is absolutely no other resto.
  4. I would carefully remove those extra staples. I personally hate extra notations on the label like "3 staples added, non manufacturing". Those staples don't allow you to fully open the book. You probably can't fully open it at the CF, right? It's a pricey enough book that you may want a pro to look at it. great find even though it's low grade!
  5. This ASM 1 is restored. A piece was added (original piece from another ASM 1). There is no other resto. I know it's going to get a purple label, but I'm asking for an opinion of "apparent grade". 1/4" spine split at the top. Water stain on the "S" of Spiderman. That same waterstain is on the back cover too. The back cover has an additional light water stain in the lower right corner. None of the interior pages are water stained.
  6. I picked up a nice Suzie 67 last week and found a Bill Woggon signature inside on the Katy Keene Splash. "Best Wishes to E. Barry Wind, Bill Woggon" Anyone know who E. Barry Wind is? Is he just a fan or is he an artist?
  7. Modern artist (dead). Piece had to be authenticated (which is near impossible in the snobbish art world). My friend hired a forensic specialist to look for any fingerprints on the painting, real CSI stuff..... bingo! They found fingerprints and bingo, the prints matched the artist. Ka-Ching!
  8. Well, there is the one long diagonal crease, but it looks fairly light. You've got a great 4.0 there with gorgeous color and no MC.
  9. Looks like a 5.5 from the front. Is there a big flaw on the back cover? I'd value that on the high side of FMV
  10. I found this ad page in an issue of Kids Movie Komics I thought since the ad says to send your response to Stan Lee, that the cartoon drawing in the upper left must be him.
  11. How do 75 year old bundles of newsprint still exist in those pristine conditions...... it blows my mind. This'll be a fun auction to watch. Well produced video by the way.
  12. 1.8 is a generous grade for that comic I think. The staples are super rusted with bad rust migration to all of the pages. The cgc label doesn't even mention that the cover is detached. Stains on every page. Does that sig look real?
  13. That press just gained you about $4000 in value. Nice!!! Way to go!!!!! Your page quality went up a notch too. The sig..... hmmmm, personally I don't think a "Gold" sharpie was the right choice, but that's just me. The CGC grading banner is cool. Does that one cost more or does it come with the SS service?
  14. I bought a Silver age misc. "comic lot" off of ebay and this Australian Shadow comic was thrown in as an extra. Check out the back cover advertisement. Pretty bad. This comic is from the early 60s. I could see an ad like this being printed in the 30s or 40s, but I can't believe it's from the 60s.
  15. Those are great strips! Super good artwork.
  16. Got this back the other day. Very happy with the grade.
  17. The spine on this is actually not rolled at all. It's in the original configuration. If you look at a lot of AF15s you will see that many are wrapped like this. In a perfect world the centering would always skew to the front, but for some reason with Af15s many of them are not very well centered
  18. This is a restored AF15. It was a remaindered copy that has had a new masthead attached. It also has color touch. I just want to get a sense of what you guys think it will grade out at. Back cover is a little better than the front cover.
  19. I've had a remaindered copy for a while and finally found a masthead for it. The right side of the masthead is a little short compared to the bottom part but I think it came out ok.
  20. Yeah, if you're going to sell a comic for $12,000, put a little more effort into the pics.
  21. Might be a "deal to be had" with the Archie 1 7.0 moderate restored on ebay right now. $12,000 seems like a pretty good price. I'd be VERY tempted if I had the money. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Archie-Comics-1-Restored-CGC-Graded-7-0-RARE-Vintage-Golden-Age-1942-MLJ-/172795522148?hash=item283b6a6c64:g:JAEAAOSwjiFZYrgz
