Where's my T-shirt?For a book this valuable, a new owner could fork over the 15 bucks for a reholdering.Oh I get that Bob, but my question is how it ever left Sarasota like that. Surely there must be smaller wedges that you could put on both sides so the book is centred properly?

C2-E2?
BTW the 'Heels are looking really good, and have yet to gel.

Regarding the question if these books have been pressed. IMO, it's very apparent the answer is yes. Anybody remember the Cole Shave discussions ? Here is a template that was published during that discussion showing the format of those uber pressed books. Though a bit more 'tempered' this new pedigree displays the same characteristics. Look at the upper right corner and the way the pages fan out.
It's an unbelievably gorgeous book, but I believe Bob is correct in his observation of the pressings:
Ouch, I thought CGC was able to fix this problem with their pressing process?
Whether or not it is or isn't, the ugliest part of this book is the way it sits in the case, hugging the right hand side. It looks awful, and the OCD in me once passed on a book because of the way it sat in the case.

You were already considered a Christian if you were Catholic. Good lord it's like the comic book conversation all over again.
Not in the sense like they are.
Christians believe in Christ, as do Catholics.
Both are Christians, but please try again.

Is there anything saying that these are OO books anyway? I thought I was reading it was a collection, which would imply that some (??%) books may have been after acquired/collected.
To be a pedigree it has to be OO so it's implied, but I get your point, it's not defined for fact in the context of the press release.

I wonder if this pedigree is getting pressed prior to grading.
Why would you wonder that?
Why not? The minute some are pressed and some are not, the uniformity of the pedigree is no longer the same.
I'm no longer anti pressing but it's a pretty valid thought.

If you're gonna pay $7500 for a book in 1979, should you not at least know the proper title?
Marvel Mystery #1...kills me every time

It doesn't make sense for Vader to take on grunts as second in command in the Empire no matter how you analyze the situation, but I don't care. I loved seeing him mow through a crowd of people.
Second in command or third?
I always saw him as a third behind Tarkin...I mean he had enough respect for Tarkin to release Motti when asked. Not sure if he'd do that for anybody.

The Vader scene at the end . . .
Yea, BIG time. Movie was entertaining, but that scene was just awesome. Not as exciting as when Yoda opened up his can of whoop- in Episode II, but pretty close. I wasn't expecting it.
I just don't get it, and another issue I have with the movie.
Vader should move like he did fighting Obi Wan in Star Wars. When I see the end of R1, I wanna poke my eyes out. That's not in continuity with the story at all and I take it as a big FU to me personally as the studio is saying "look what we can do now with computers, to hell with everything else you ever known"
Jim
Honestly, I hated the Yoda vs. Dooku battle because of the over-indulgent use of CGI, but, as someone who saw the original Star Wars as a 3-year-old and has been immersed in Star Wars ever since, I don't understand this criticism toward the Vader scene at all -- why in the world would they handcuff him by sticking to that awkward, clunky, limited fighting style? Just to stay in continuity?! The Vader in R1 was so much more fluid and mowed through the troopers with superhuman power and dexterity (the way he should)! With as complex and sophisticated as fight choreography has gotten since 1977 (as we saw with Ray Park -- one of the genuine bright spots of the prequels), why would they try to portray one of the most powerful entities in the galaxy in such a stilted, unconvincing style?
This scene genuinely *floored* me in a way that most Star Wars movies have so disappointingly failed to do since ROTJ. I can't even comment on most of the rest of R1 because I can't get past how visceral the impression of actually seeing Vader unleashed was: Vader as an relentless, unfeeling, brutal instrument of terror. For me, this was the saga finally living up to its potential and, for once, this jaded fan actually left the theater feeling "satisfied". There have been so many blown opportunities with villains like Maul and Fett (or even the off-camera Anakin/Vader carnage in E2 and E3) where I just felt there was so much unrealized potential. I'm really not the biggest Vader fan nor am I even much of a CGI fan, but this was pure SW porn to me and I was absolutely giddy as the scene unfolded: His blitzing attack, the horror and panic from the rebel soldiers, the desperation to get rid of the plans, it was just masterful.
I'm truly sorry that you couldn't enjoy it, because, again, as a fan of the saga for nearly 40 years now, this was one of its highest points.
I respect your opinion and point of view. I just see it as rewriting history. If Vader was capable of all that carnage, then why bother sending in the Stormtroopers at all on the Blockade Runner in A New Hope....Vader could have intercepted the plans much quicker himself and the entire movie could have been over in five minutes.
I'm not interested in seeing what should have been, I want to see what was.
Jim
This explains why you like Force Awakens, basically you just want to see the same thing over again.
The fight in ANH always bugged me as it was slow and boring, just compare it to ESB which was more physical, faster and still looks awesome to this day.
Absolutely hated it the first time I saw it. It took John Seeberger (SpideyOntTilt here on the boards) calling me up from California and saying I should really give it another chance. And when I did, I "got it", SW is supposed to be SW, not something completely radically different or then it might be Star Trek or Aliens. That's all.

Interesting how mixed responses are to the film. I thought it was the best thing since Empire, and that is saying a lot. Great War movie and I'm glad Disney didn't pull punches like I was worried they would.
I'm excited to see it again.
My opinion is that there hasn't been a good Star Wars movie since Empire Strikes Back.
I am seeing Rogue One this evening. After seeing The Force Awakens ( which I hated/ was just a remake ) I have very low expectations.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Jedi, it's just not as good as Empire, you can't really say it's not a good SW movie, can you?

I didn't hate it and will see it again one more time in the theatres to take it all in again.
A few things I wasn't crazy about....
No crawl...made it a regular movie and not SW
When John Williams passes movies will never, ever be the same. The music was generic, except for the directly influenced Williams themes.
Dr. Evezan giving the exactly same line he uses in Star Wars, and Red Leader and Gold Leader "standing by" stolen directly from Star Wars footage was so hokey and cringe worthy. I also know I'm probably one of two people (other than my daughter) who noticed though.

Does the Extended Cut make it better?
I think it did, but still flawed. Same as B Vs S
I thought the extended version would include way more Joker.

I saw it with a bunch of people tonight well felt kinda the same way.
Just okay.
Not even close to TFA.
The Vader scenes were cool, but my god Disney IMO fell so short with using Vader. He was barely in it, and even though he was mentioned there was no scenes with the Emperor. Disney had a golden opportunity here to use more of Vader and they didn't. The film has amazing visuals, but the supporting cast was forgettable. I dont want to say this but I have zero desire to see this again in the Theaters and I saw TFA 4 times. I am pretty disappointed.
Thank god...I was wondering afterwards, I hope Seeberger doesn't think this is the bomb too.

Any theories on who random boots is?
I'm gonna go with a member of the Cult of the Thorn but we probably will never see HIS face either.
(BTW if you aren't a fan of the Hallowe'en series then I apologize in advance for the really obscure reference)

Glad they finally got there, Thomas!
(FedEx had a hiccup and they were M.I.A. for about 5 days - 5 very kind of distressing days. I know they're just comic books, but still.)
You sold some PF's
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say undercopies.

Noticed a goofy trend on WD. Anyone who directly attacks Negan gets a pass, Darryl, Carl and whatshername on Sunday. Someone else gets it instead.
I'm not sure if it's goofy or not. You take the chance and then you have to live with the guilt forever...brilliant actually.

Amazing episode but something is indeed wrong. In previous years, one hour after the mid season finale we'd have 50 posts. Mine is the second....what is going on?

Paul is on fire in this thread. Now if only he'd do shows again so we could actually hang out in real life.

Books sold
Harry potter and the philosophers stone 1 copy of 2
Paid $37USD
Sold for $33USD
Why? Auction didn't go as high as you expected, or just trying to recoup costs faster?
Jim
Pretty sure he's saying he bought two copies for $37 USD.
I think...
That's correct and I sold 1 copy for 33USD
So then what should have been posted was...
Harry Potter book
Bought for $18.50
Sold for $33
Fixed for ya

Trust me. red hulk is not heating up
Latest sales for those that cant scroll:
The Keown variant used to be a $50 raw book
I agree with you, I am asking, for those that think it might be, what would the reason for the claim be backed by?
Edit:
I dont mean sales, but justification for increased interest. I have never heard any rumors about any colored hulk ever being in anything.
When a book that essentially had no value at all sells for $24 in VF, that's heating up. Justification can kiss my batoulis . . .
And then the next VF one sells for 6 bucks and the next NM- listed book sells for $11.50.
Yep that's on fire.

Avengers #97
Thomas
J. Buscema/Palmer
The culmination of the Kree-Skrull war, with a cool cover by Kane and Bill Everett.
Great Kane Frame, Bob.
IMO, that cover doesn't get the recognition it's due.
Perhaps because it was a fill-in job for a disgruntled artist who left one of the greatest storylines before its climax.
Or maybe because the issue is sandwiched between two enigmatic, fan-favorite artists and their short lived Avengers work.
Whatever the case, it's a creative masterpiece of 3-D action flying from a framed cover composition that brilliantly captures the illusion of dramatic, heroic movement. Powerful and captivating. The perfect newsstand eye-candy.
And to think Kane threw that cover together at the last-minute request of Roy Thomas so as to avoid missing a production deadline. Simply amazing!
It's a great cover but was has always bothered me is the red strip in the top of the cover. Looks odd, and there aren't too many others like that. If it was an all black PF, it might be a top fiver.
Anyone with any photoshop skills willing to make the cover all black and show us what might have been?

Here you go. I tried to do it myself and gave up after about 20 minutes. Then I asked my nephew for help and 3 minutes later he sent me this...
