How does getting back and forth across the border work in terms of buying comic books?  Would I need to pay a fee for each book purchased?  Toronto is such a cool city and I'd love to go back in the summer so going up to also hit a Con would be ideal.

As an American coming back you would most likely pay you very little if anything at all.  They will ask you how much you purchased of over all goods.  There is different allowances for a 24 hour trip, a 48 hour trip and a week or more.  You're gonna say a thousand or whatever the number would most likely be and you'll be sent along with zero issues.

I find the single most difficult thing I'm finding in grading is a book that looks absolutely perfect, or is at least an 8.0 in every way save one.

The question is about the "one".

As an example is an ASM I was raw grading yesterday evening.  It had square corners, well centered, bright staples, glossy covers, one small spine tick, off white pages and no color breaks. I would normally be inclined to push this book- about 48 years old to at least an 8.5

As typed, it's still a 9.8, so there must be a lot more else going on with it to be graded an 8.5 in the description.

Hmm. Ya just checked round trip is 450$ because of the late booking, I probably couldn't make enough to justify it this year. I'll keep this one in mind next year though.  I generally stick with cgc ss book and getting books signed to flip but the well has run dry up here I really need to replenish my stock soon.

It runs a 4-6 times a year and really is the best little comic show on the planet.  Rob the promoter has really caught listening in a bottle with this one.

This show on Sunday, my "wall" of keys would rival any Fan Expo "wall".

That's great, but we aren't talking about Captain America Comics 1 here.

When comparing it to an issue with multiple first appearances? Absolutely!

Again, a reintroduction of a popular character certainly has significance, but Cap was a well-established character with dozens of prior appearances.

:eyeroll: I do not own any copies of X-Men 4 (well, not the SA version). And despite any significance early X-Men issues may have, they are basically unreadable.

First SA appearances are fairly important, and have been for a very long time, because they are a representation of the character we know and love, not our Grandfathers GL, Flash or Cap.  Avengers #4 is a pretty big deal.

That being said Avengers #4 and X-Men #4 are two of my favourie 25 books of all time, but Avengers #4 is the winner here.

It worries me that a large part of the trailer is some dude being interrogated tied to a chair.  Usually they put the best things in trailers and a boring scene like that being center stage is a red flag to me.

Some dude???  That's what makes it so awesome.  It's Klaw and the guy responsible for Winter Soldiers capture.  We've seen both characters before.  That's what I love about all these movies, they all tie in together in some fashion.

Plus this trailer is visually amazing on the senses.

It really makes me sad that this type of product is being displayed in the isles at conventions of the hobby i love,

i feel deep, deep shame that this is accepted and promoted even at just one comic con, for even if it was for just one hour

Our show was much like Bob's. Pretty horrific. We had a 30's something couple in the booth. Wife begins massaging her temples. Walks around a few minutes. There is no where to hide from the endless supply of incessant cover bands butchering yet another song. Every one of them played non-stop as they literally had a captive audience. I fantasized often about how much $$$ it would take to shut them up!  She to her husband "sorry, this is supposed to be fun, we need to leave".  And off they went. $0 in sales from them. Other comments we heard throughout the show.

    Customer:

How much is the Hulk #181?

    Me: $3400.

Customer: $400? I'll have to think about it.

To be fair, he could hardly hear me above the din.

If it weren't for 3 customers who would meet me on the side of the highway, it would've been our 2nd worst show ever. At the end of the day, Wizard is going to do what it thinks is best for Wizard. I get that. What I don't get is creating an atmosphere that is totally retailer unfriendly. Why are selling comic books and all of the other garbage mutually exclusive? It reminded me very much of walking down the midway at the county fair complete with hucksters and carnival barkers. I feel badly for Peter Katz and Em Wengel, both of whom have been great to me and both of whom I consider friends. There is a 0% chance we would go back to Philly in it's current format. And it's 2 hours door to door. A true shame, one of our favorite cities on the tour and it used to be a top 5 show for us.

    Best to all,

    Greg

Greg... In all fairness, if the guy had to "think" about a $400 #181, he was never gonna buy it in the first place.   FWIW I will buy every $400 copy you have, and I will meet you on the side of a highway to buy them.

Jaws 3-D has two things going for it:

    1. Lea Thompson in a bikini

    2. It's not Jaws IV: The Revenge

I'd say $1 is about right.

Jaws 2 is ok. Its biggest issue is that it has no reason to exist, as Jaws is a perfect film, and impossible to replicate.

I have a soft spot for 4 over 3 because of Lorraine Gary and the townsfolk that attend Seans funeral.  At least it feels like it takes place in the same universe, Jaws3, not so much.

Strongly doubt that Overstreet would be of much help with respect to 1964 prices since its first edition was not until 1970.  hm

Speaking of that 1970 first price guide, it looks like they had AF 15 listed at a whopping $16 in Mint condition.  :gossip:

Well actually Lou that proves my point perfectly....if it was $16 in 1970 then there was no way it was $25 in 64.

Without NoMan chiming back in, that would have been our best way to deduce what the 1964 price might have been.

Hahah  I'm glad I always preface my posts with, "I might be wrong, but.."

Seems I was very wrong. AF15 was selling for $1.50 by Claude Held.

Ar least I admit I don't know what I'm talking about.

Thank you for the correction, I thought I was starting to go a little crazy.  I'm gonna say $25 could have probably gotten you a good GA key if there was one in the room there in 1964.
