Does not make sens how? Spidey is the king of a super important age in comic book history....it makes total sens!!

That is not new, and has been the case for fifty years.  What doesn't make "sens"  is the doubling of the book in a couple of months.

I know what my own eyes tell me about the overall AF market, which encompasses a lot more than last weekend in Chicago.  (thumbsu

We are, after all, only talking about a comic book here.  It's not as though you need some sort of advanced degree in finance to make an informed opinion.  Dealer input is of course always valuable and appreciated, but the "I know better than you, so listen to and believe me and not your own eyes"-schtick is a little played out at this point.

Are you guys really arguing about this?  For somebody to say that not a single copy of a book sold over the weekend when Leroy posted that he had sold one just the other day is nonsense.  Nobody knows everything, and to assume that you would be made aware of each and every sale as it happened is crazy to me.  (That point is obviously not directed at you JayDog).

Andy sorry it didn't work out as it's rare that I'm ready to sell anything on setup day. I like to focus on getting my booth ready and whenever the first person ask when I'll be ready to sell I give them a time usually the next morning and I stick to it 100% no matter who it is. This actually works out for a lot of pickers as they can prey on other dealers knowing I'm not selling to anyone.

I had Tom Nelson waiting at my booth at 8:45 patiently waiting until my 9 am pre show sales on Fri morning. Another dealer started going through my comic boxes and I told him I'd be open at 9 and he said it's only a $10 comic . I explained I had already told several others that I was going to open at 9 and I need to stick to it. He shoved the comic back in disgust and left. Me and Tom got a nice laugh from it.

It was nice to meet junkdrawer and 1Cool for the first time and I thank them for the purchases.

Friday was my best day for sales, Saturday crowds were insane and we were swamped 90% of the day. Sunday was kinda chill out time until load out which is very difficult. I had my helper get in line at 3:30 and at 6:45 he finally got on show floor.

Tax man said I need to sell a comic out of my collection so Saturday JLA 1 CGC 8.5 was sacrificed.    Not that GPA will report it but I was asking $18K and sold it for $17.5K.

I subbed 42 comics and was satisfied with most of the grades.

    Some of the CGC were

    AF 15 CGC .5 incomplete (missing part of ad page), Bat 232 CGC 9.4, X-men 94 CGC 9.0, SS 4 CGC 9.4, Iron Man 55 CGC 9.4, Hulk 181 CGC 9.0, B&B 54 CGC 8.0, ASM 2 CGC 5.0, ASM 300 CGC 9.8, Marv Prem 15 CGC 9.0, Rifleman 10 CGC 8.5, DD 1 CGC 3.5, Flash 123 CGC 5.0, ASM 129 CGC 9.0

One of my favourite lines ever was when Leroy and I couldn't get a deal done as Leroy looked at me and said "I'm just having too good a show, you need to hit me when sales are a little slower".  It's a classic and one I will never forget.

Somehow this hobby (comics) has morphed into and/or created an interest in bank safe deposit boxes: their history, bank safe box thefts, how they survive various natural catastrophes, etc.

    Weird, I know. ???

I gotta agree, such a strange fascination with safety deposit boxes and even moreso telling us about it.  Just get your books properly insured and then leave them anywhere you want in your house.

Of course if theft is a genuine concern/worry of yours, you might be better off using the proceeds off of the sale of said books and moving to a better neighbourhood.

  6. Was really surprised it did not go for more. The eye appeal is much better than what the grade implies.

Yes, definite eye appeal there if you are talking about the strong and deep colors on the book. (thumbs u

But is nobody else seeing the multiple small color breaking spine ticks which is running throughout a large part of the spine? (shrug)

Lou...see three posts up...I totally agree with you.

  7. Hello, I'm new to this site. I have been collecting comics for about 35 years purely as a hobbyist (reading and enjoying the artwork) and just recently started to buy and sell for investment and to pay for my kids college funds. I have learned about comic book pressing though the many sites I have begun to visit. (I never knew this existed until about 2 years ago)

I have begun trying to learn the pressing process solely for my personal collection. I have about 64 long boxes full of comics that will need some pressing here and there to achieve higher grades and maximize my selling profits. (of course the more valuable books I will send to professionals)

I have an amateur pressing set-up; a t-shirt press, a humidity chamber, foam board, gum erasers, etc... and have been pleased with my results overall, but the thing I still cannot solve are spine ticks/spine creases. Can someone please give me some help in getting these out of my books? I have tried using a bone creasing tool to slightly rub the crease out after taking the book out of the humidity chamber and before pressing the book, but no luck. I have tried increasing the pressure, but do not want to press to much and have a "Too Flat Book" Please any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What purpose does the foam board provide?

  8. To tell the truth, given the media attention surrounding the inclusion of certain characters using CGI as well as the recycling of stock footage with the original voice actors returning... I think the spoilers are pretty much out of the bag.

    Finally saw rouge one today.

Is that the makeup movie where they steal the plans for a new version of blush?

    :roflmao:

Gem and the holograms two: rouge one

Or Jem...love when people tease someone about a typo with a typo ;)
