Those are fantastic. It's funny I picked up Conan 37 last month as well. I was originally looking at the 9.8 Suscha News copy that Comic Connect sold a while back. That book went for over $700, it was ridiculous. This 9.6 is more than good enough for me. While I love Adams I'm more of a horror/gothic/fantasy fan. I suppose that's why the Adams' batman covers appeal to me. The Green Lantern issues don't inspire me to open my wallet as much as the bats do and I'll tend to go after Wrightson, Adams, Kaluta horror titles prior to GL. That cover with the guy crucified to the airplane does appeal to me though. I also love a lot of the Phantom Stranger covers he's done, although I've only been able to score #18 so far.

That's a nice haul, I could only justify pulling a couple from what was available. I'm a little unhappy with the 194. The right front edge of the middle part of the cover is rougher than the 9.6 I just sold. The 298 was an upgrade to my 9.6 copy.

I'll post a scan this evening. One thing I have to say is that the seller of the 9.2 I bought shipped that book in a tank. The box was super sturdy, at least twice the size of the book in the height and width dimensions and had 1 - 1 1/2 inch thick foam padding on both sides of the book. I really felt like the seller gave me a hug after financially violating me.

I'm not sure there's any reason to get angry at anyone here, IMHO the real culprit is the post office handling of our mail. I purchased a copy of Phantom Stranger 26 from Harley Yee a while back and it arrived with mutliple cracks in the case. I was annoyed at the seller at the time and didn't leave any feedback but looking back it wasn't really the seller's fault. I'm glad I stepped back and took a deep breath. I've had cracked stuff come in from Comic Link and Comic Connect before. Actually, I received the exact same response from the guys at Comic Connect when my Suscha News copy of Shadow 5 arrived with multiple fractures. Basically, they said we're not responsible but here's $11. The only time I've escalated is when I purchased a copy of X-Men 142 from a Gambit1967 on ebay. The guy charged me flat rate box and then sent the slab in an envelope in betwen two flimsy pieces of cardboard. The case was completely shattered in half and the book was bent, IMHO there was no way that book was still 9.6. I contacted the guy a couple of times and then escalated. The guy never responded until I opened a case. When I left feedback he called me a liar and said he packed everything in boxes. He was dickish in the extreme. Ultimately, ebay ruled in my favor, gave me my money back and I sent his slab back, in the same envelope and cardboard backing that he sent to me in the first place.... In the case of Fwertham, he's already provided positive feedback, so unless I get the book mauled due to lazy packaging, I'd say he's on the level and operating in good faith.

I think this was a Heritage Auction from a few weeks back. I had the book until someone pulled it from me at the last moment. G.I Combat 168 It's not that I mind being sniped at the last minute, god knows I've done it enough, but it kind of bothers me when the book immediately turns up somewhere else with a jacked up price. I guess as a hobbyist this says to me the buyer doesn't care about the hobby at all beyond turning a quick buck and is just adding a d0uchbag tax to my past-time...

This same seller had both of those books for sale last year too. If I remember correctly he had the 9.2 listed for $700.00 at the time. I made an offer above GPA at the time and he went on and on about how the book was worth the asking price. He must have felt the new $1,200.00 price was too low and yanked the ad. I picked this one up. I talked him down $300 from his asking price of $1250. I'm sure I still got f**d hard but after seeing the 9.4OWW go for $1400 I didn't want to angst about not having a copy any more. I got the investment line but I'm not sure you can call the book an investment when you're already squeezing every potential ounce of upside out of the book. Anyway, doesn't matter, I'm a collector so my daughter will have to figure out what to do with it after I check out. I'll post a pic once I get it in hand. The ebay picture kind of sucked so I'm hoping its not as ugly as the other 9.2WP with the big crease at the bottom left of the book that I saw earlier in the thread.

That painted cover is really neat and an off-beat 1st Appearance too! Nice pull, Greggy! (thumbs u I'll need to keep an eye out for that issue... Not sure if its original but the spelling of the Baron's name is pretty awesome. (thumbs u

Man, this post just makes me depressed looking at the few 9.4 and 9.6 issues of Byrne X-Men that I've been able to scrounge up.
