  1. what would consider to be the 3 rarest GA, SA, BZ books in the collection? your thoughts?
  2. Great cover....and when you open it up...acceptable art....I like the Don Heck early monster stuff..it was a great contrast to Kirby/Ditko in those early books, but for some reason solo just does not add up to the "marvel standard" after creating great expectations and story has a lot to do with it.
  3. what would the 3 rarest GA books would be?...any opinions
  4. sold in a set of auctions...interesting to see if they see by set or by issue...some super once in a lifetime stuff there
  5. But it is factual...and that. is the point for so many years the truth has been forthcoming ......But I agree that a book by book evaluation is necessary as Stan did contribute.....so I am in support of commentary on each issue...and as we go thru these issues, the case builds stronger and stronger for PN conclusion. This is coming for a 60 year collector who bought these books off the news stand or drug store.
  6. The truth is finally coming out...as we progress, if I had to pick a year other than 1962...I would pick 1968....what a great year
  7. I agree it has been printed before, but the new omnibus are larger and sometimes better colored or printed. I think we all need to support this project so there will be a VOL 2. Challengers of the Unknown would be a fantastic omnibus....so would your other suggestions, but my advice is even if you have the Archives trade up and support this project and news ones,. Heck, you might be able to sell the smaller editions and get the new one for free.
  8. Great news Superman the Silver Age Omnibus @1 is coming Dec 5, 2023 in the Omnibus format. It contains Superman 122-137 and Action Comics 241-265. The retail price is only $100 and I see it on Amazon for $90 and thriftbooks for $81. 680 oversized pages remastered!!! Coming up on 85 years. the Superman archive editions were hard to come by and of course I am looking forward to upgraded remastered images and printing. These in my opinion were just plain great stuff. I hope this leads to other editions coming out like Rip Hunter, Challengers etc.....let me know what you think!
  9. The one thing this thead as well as your others has clearly established is not all marvels are created equal. It appears on a consistent basis that Kirby/Ditko issues which they had a large imput on the writing/creating aspect is superior to something like this above on the strange tales torch story. Again it was in my opinion that the "movie like quality stories" is what took Marvel to the level above DC...don't get me wrong there was some really great book length stories for example Superman # 132 and #146 and finally a omnibus of those classic stores in Superman and Action is coming see my new post on that. It is just that marvel was hitting so much more home runs. Since the creation of this thead I have changed my opinion as to what really went on. One suggestion, IF someone out there has the "pure images" issues, I think there were 3, one on the creation of Spidermani issue #1, the second I think was a on the creation of the marvel universe for sure issue 2 which was 30 pages and covered up to I think 1961/2 the second part I do not believe was ever published, please post these as I have been unable to locate my copies of those great issues. The issues were a preview of what your great theads have gone into with much more detail and examination as it was more of a general overview but it is much more that what was available at the time and he was close to Kirby. I was luckly enough to have as least 2 conversations with Greg at different SDCC...I remember it was the first time I saw the Alt cover to FF3...I asked him how it got it. So Prince, for many years those articles sparked something, that best recreation of what took place with historic events which changed comic book collecting forever. After Pure images, it got me thinking.....after I do not believe the second part ever showed up....luck had it....we had a devoted board member who thought as I did, that something just does not add up to the story. "those who control the present, control the past"
  10. price guide is $3250...it looks worse than a VG by the way.....how does he come up with that price......?
  11. super, if you have owned the previous books what do you find to be the biggest surprise and how would you rank this....enjoy
  12. What a month...FF Ann #1....still today one of the greatest superhero books ever created, I mean the whole 72 pages were great...what a deal...best 25cents I ever spent.
  13. I received the ultimate insult this morning. Amazon canceled my order due to "lack of availability". They sat they are "sorry" for the inconvenience.......folks it is no wonder their stock has gone from a high point of over $170 a share in the last year to $98.....Cheap Graphic Novels here I come from now on!!!!!!!
  14. The you tube video is AMAZING...one of the greatest books ever published!
  15. It is very interesting that the quality of many issues varied. As a newstand buyer the Kirby cover would get me everytime, I would not look on the inside...that is just how we bought it...cover only for the young buyers, So I did purchase the Thor above on the newstand and was disappointed when I got home. It is hard to say when the tipping point came for Marvel over DC during that time and Doctor Solar created a collectors stir along with a few other titles. ACG was never in the running and either was Dell except for Space Man...that created a ripple also. I really like the approach of going month by month because I had forgotten about the mundane or average marvel material and just assumed it ALL was great out of the starting gate. If I was forced to pick one year for Marvel, it would be 1968...when the expansion came. FF Annual 1 was considered by collectors along with issue #1 to be the hardest ones to get or most valuable in 1963, and I recall getting that one and strange tales Annual. FF5 was a hot book also by 1963. Being there, and waiting each for to get my young mind blown by covers and stories which I could understand read and reread are great. My point is that the Kirby/Ditko marvels, even some of the monster books were very re readable ...that carried a lot of value in the early collector days as opposed to a one and out DC superboy...that was the game changer here...from boots on the ground. But as we have seen here..not all Marvels are created equally.
  16. CAP 1-10....great stuff!!! I would recommend the simon and kirby hardcover which includes that and the vision stories as a great starting point....EC come in second with the Weird Science/Fantasy material which is still unmatched to this day...
  17. Blue is back on my radar!!!!! been a while
