I just wish I was a fly on the wall.......Your thread here really issue by issue gives us look of the marvel reality...it is paying attention to detail that derails Stan and his co-credit /creator status. I will give Stan the editor of the year award, even the best promo master of all time when it comes to comic book marketing but keep going forward issue by issue.....the evidence is does not hype or lie...thanks for this thread and every opinion we get including the above video adds to the treasure trove of finding out the truth. I learn something from everything.

great stuff....I think they were reprinted in a hardcover format...did you ever check those out...and what issues were reprinted if you know, I also bought that title off the newstand once in a whie

Stan was a editor who took the writers fee with a one line lets do Doc Ock....Kirby the creative force, Stan was the promo!

This was to come out on June 16th on Disney...I do not have DISNEY...has anyone seen this on the boards yet??? your impression?...REVIEW of this Stan Lee tribute??????

that is very possible but I am inclined to think they knew at that point Kirby was a aid to selling books with Kirby covers which could have been another factor!

I think the actual truth will never be known and I believe that everyone is right and wrong in their own viewpoints similarly to 5 witnesses seeing the same event and each testimony differs. One critical fact which works both for and against Kirby’s claim… the fact Ditko did the original cover of AF 15 which Stan as editor shows that Steve was in control of this from day one timewise Kirby comes in and redoes AF 15 cover… and creates a superior image which in my opinion created the definitive Spider-Man look which was historic. so it’s the chicken and egg issue.. I can understand Kirby taking some credit creating the the AF 15 classic defining cover….I can understand Ditko claiming the majority of the credit with is his issue by issue analysis. but SFDUCK….,one major point you seem to have forgotten…., Stan the Man is nowhere to be found in this equation…. Just Stan the editor.. two creative geniuses crossing paths with Stan sitting on the sidelines!!!!!!!!!!! .

The flaw in your comparison is this...Stan Lee is no Joe Simon...not even close. But lets give Cap#1 credit...it was a game changer in 1941 and the run of 1-10 holds up today in 2023. That is why Taschen's next marvel comics library is Cap 1-10 That was a legit joint effort, but Joe Simon did not take credit for every -script written on 5/8 different titles per month...Stan did not do it all, and his writing credit is worthless...however, I would agree a great editior. One book I would recommend you purchase The Golden age of Simon and Kirby hardcover...it is simply fantastic and I have read it 3 times...Besides the Vision which appeared in MM, a number of new characters and believe me, they have some solo Joe Simon covers which are great. A fantastic body of work...quality over more material....

I got to disagree with you, given the format limitations the books can rise much higher that soap opera....FF48, 49 and 51 come to mind, as well as FF5, Ann#1( possibly the best here),etc and that is just Kirby...let along Ditko...do not get me wrong, Stan did his job and did it well...promotional stick at its best, but that only goes so far....it was the great material created both artwork and story which kept you there, Stan opened the door- Sfcityduck...but that was about it....

The savy art buyer has a back stop...it is called charitable deduction..and with a one of a kind art...who sets real value...obviously the price paid is the floor, the museum wants it for free... the sky is the limit on value..again the FF for 6M buyer has a way out as it is one of a kind....not the promise collection however...with GPA and auctions results...true current market value can easily be obtained...big difference here in flexibility due to it being one of kind.

That is assuming there is some sort of "Floor" big recessions have a way of creating a new floor...downward

Anyone can play either side of the fence...our Pedigree GA comic book history has shown, when we paid 3x guide plus for the SF collection or MH...over time it reaped great rewards. So history was on my side at the time of the initial sale....lets let it play out...who knows....but for now....it looking pretty bad,,,for the present they are 100% right....but we know over time how things somehow change.....If you plan on being a collector for the next 7-10 years...Promise "fire sale" books are a no brainer if you can hold, and hold and not sell them but I will admit...we are certainly not at the bottom if we hit a serious economic recession 4thQ this year

It is of course a very different animal...you are dealing with one of kind...FF painting that sold for 6 million is a prime example in the very same auction....great piece and very unlikely to come to the market again and will probably be ended up in a museum like all them, donated for tax purposes. Again, lets not kick the Promise collection into the reject pile....of course we would need a dramatic turn around.....lets talk about this 5 years from now...like fine wine give it some breathing time...BUT if we go into a deep recession...and IF those instant crypto rich kids dump the overbidded promise collection GA books they bought on the market all at once......God help us all...

On 90% of the promise books it is possible, maybe...just maybe 10% can break even with 2% showing some growth. Whoever timed the same, looking backwards he was super smart. Given the evidence of these sales numbers which are very early, however, to make such a broad statement is a bit early in the game...we are probability in only the 3d inning of a 9-inning game. Of course, if inflation continues at over 5/6% per year or greater the possible break-even point is less probable. In the long, we hoped that the exceptional once-in-a-lifetime condition of these great GA books would make up for the extra maximum that we had to pay. I do not think anyone expected the "Promise " price crash that has occurred. If you recall, however, I did suggest that if you bought Promise books you would have to hold them for a significant time and avoid quick flips. Price or not these are truly great GA books in one of the last original GA comic book collections and they are pedigreed, but I would not be surprised in 6 months if all asset classes decline, it could be stocks, real estate, bonds, coins, cards when the coming recession hits.... that will be the real test as to when you have to dump them. I believe they will recover,long term...but you have to have the ability to hold thru the tough times

I have been a supporter of the promise collection and believe those book are great books. What I have been mistaken about is the correlation between them and the Mile High Collection. Yes I thought it would follow the same pattern of taking years to "catch up" to the "real world" comic book prices. It appears that the Promise Collection was sold at the perfect exact moment of a comic book price bubble and them it went for an insane over market price. I was wrong....they may never hit true market price on a number of those books...The GA Action prices cannot be dismissed. However, it appears there is a price market panic on a number of those books and say on those early 78-80 Actions, there is a very chance those will exceed the price paid yesterday in the future SO...NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY PROMISE COLLECTION books, while there is a "fire sale"....

It appears Stan actually believes his own BS...keep telling yourself something enough times and you can convince yourself of anything...and jack just happened to be around...his " story " is just that...make believe and a bad one.The true marvel method is Stan editing Jack and Steve and getting double paid as writher and editor. Joan Lee was known as a big spender and put pressure on Stan to get that double paycheck......when things exploded Stan created within the company the fact he was not replaceable by taking credit for the creation...then as time went on he gave the artists some co-creation crumb to Kiribyt by saying that Jack created the SS....Stan, looking at your body language in this video....you were were not 100% convinced yourself. Neal is spot ON.

Over in comics general there is a posting of the review of the stan lee Disney film by Neal Kirby his son....I hope someone can transfer that over to this thead....very interesting and we know the real story here. One other point, there is a copy from the early challengers of the unknown promo ad....which is almost the same as the top of the page of FF1.....wow very interesting if someone could post that. blown up.......comments on his opinion?
