  1. I think the material from the early times 1933-37 was good, but the great stuff happened as least comic book wise, not comic strip, from 1938 on....my opinion might be based up my favor, but comic books took it up to a level by participating and living in world war 2...the quality of the books in that period are astounding. There is going to be a big run coming....it probably coming from somewhere none of us can see.....its gonna happen. I think the rare nature of DC books especially the end runs of the superhero titles like Flash, Green Lantern....have real value, just like Cap 1...which a 7.0 HA is going to auction very soon and which I have been stating ever since I have been on the boards...and by the way...Cap 1 is still a Bargain....lotta room left to go.
  2. I don't the sky is falling, good time to buy, But the rules are a little different than GA. I would buy only unrestored high grade books with 1962/1963 preference., as it took a couple of years for the word to get out and the disttribution of the early Marvels were not as good as DC. Hence rarer especially in top grade
  3. Great stuff and gonna go up...get those later issues before prices increases hit hard.
  4. It seems that what is hot becomes not because of the price increase, and then people realize that the not hot stuff is underpriced and demand goes up for them. The state of the market going into the "roaring 20s" has never looked better. Because of the many reprints especially in the 50's horror department we seen a increase in prices and interest. A key issue is what is next in the 1938-1955 price range to hit a price surge . If I had to guess it would be high grade 1944/5 and up DC's especially Flash. DC is has turned a corner on its movies, and some reprint stuff is just fantastic especially the extra Large hardcover editions. Watch over the next 2-3 for my prediction to come true. What is your choice for the next discovery of undervalue among collectors?
  5. The world wide market super hero market has expanded, more TV shows are being produced than ever before, and superhero material reaches worldwide. You cannot compare this time of movie and tv production to the past, the Streaming wars have begun....there will be many more shows to come down the road. GA will continue to hold value, demand because like that national 7 above...it GREAT stuff. Sure you have to pick your spots but any Cap, human torch book is a no brainer. As far as comic book readers go, some of the best publications are available now and in the future. Its great that somebody can buy Spiderman 1-38 Marvel hardcover and become an instant fan...I think there are more readers but where I see the growth coming is in graphic novels and reprints. The future looks bright to me....
  6. always liked the B/W oversized Charlton Mag...I was amazed when I saw it on the stand.
  7. as time goes on, not so much....its pretty safe to say that any original GA collectors and major collections are 99%found or no longer collect. Not the same with the marvels...there could be many major collections out there, so I would NOT hang a million bucks on a AF15 to be the highest at say 9.6 but as the years pass the SA will become much safer, yes the GA had some mighty runs but with the war and paper drives and the 50's destruction GA is rare.
  8. It only takes one person to buy and yes at an auction it would take 2 bidders who want the book. But in retaining value in the long run you are safest to go with the rarest and top grade you can find. Genuine rare GA/SA in top grade is just impossible...they don't make it anymore. You can have 50 low end buyers but you don't care, if its for an investment you only care about the top 2. For years I have said Cap1 is a bargain...it has grown greatly but still is a great bargain. I think we bend my rule when it comes to "whale" books. Meaning, I would take Superman 1 3.5 over 10 SF marvel comics #15 to #30. In the early days, we had a fundamental rule TRADE UP..meaning get cap 1 if you have 2,3,4,5 to trade for it. Condition and Restoration was not as big a factor as it is today. That is why I am saying for "investment" purposes go with Blue with exceptional page quality. Today, it is awfully clear there are three types of collectors going after the same comic book, the true comic book collector who would like to see his book appreciate but that is not the main purchase factor, The collector/investor who for the right price, would sell the book as he would make a immediate profit or long term. Finally, the real problem in our collecting world..the comic pure investor, who when he is done he will move on to coins, stamps, video games...whatever he can make money on, its a widget , it means nothing, like a stock certificate. The latter, are the ones which could run up the price to a level which is unsustainable. It possible they take over, for example the Marvel 1.2 sale...which was face lifted so many times we on the board new it was a joke....it was the label that was bought for 1.2 Mil and probably an investor...thinking he can "sell it for more" and the strange thing is..he just might be able to do that....to another investor down the road..
  9. I disagree. For the last 50 years every collector, or naysayer has said the same thing..over and over again...its the worst time to buy, its never gonna go up...we are at the top of the market..just like the guy who sold me Cap1 for 1k said years ago. If you buy quality material in top condition at a current market fair price...you will be ok..the sky is not falling..prices are gonna fluctuate as trends take over from the 70's to today..things go in and out of favor. My advice on buying is if you have the money for 10 mid grade GA comics or you can buy 1 ultra high grade comic...I would go with the quality not the quantity especially for investment purposes. As far as investment is concerned I would avoid any restored comic book above 1k..unless it A1, Bat 1 or something like that. It also depends on what the word investment means to you...if it buying a book you have always wanted in a high grade or a widget...just like a coin or stamp on anything. If widgets, buy high quality unrestored GA/SA books as these will be the easiest one to dispose of quickly with particular attention to page quality. White page books will and always will be in very high demand for GA/SA material. I hope you fall on the collector/investor side of things such that you can enjoy the investment. GOOD LUCK
  10. my top choice for greatest annual of them all
  11. how did they make the reprint...and did they reprint the label also...???
  12. You won those captain futures...as a I remember, how about posting those great issues.
  13. you can but if you are gonna buy a book such as that one and you live near a HA auction site, you can always ask that the book be shipped there for your inspection.
  14. have to disagree with you on this one, sometimes it brings more buyers to the table just because there are 3 copies. I would not be upset if I was the consigner...Sup1 is a very in demand book...I think its a very strong 3.5 by the way.
  15. WOW...great cover, never seen that one before .
