  1. a big thumbs up on this thead, read all 85 pages....so much good stuff...keep it going
  2. the books sent to me were accurately graded or represented
  3. As I recall, the really first big mutitlple speculation book among collectors was Conan#1...I can remember the SF comic book company having a 3 copy limit on that book, that was unheard of at the time especially for the earierst comic book shop I can remember in SF. Barry Baluman went striaght to the distributor and got ...I have refered to this story in the past 1000 conan #1's...he died in a car accident, but he was a very early dealer setting up in Berkleley CA book store basement, the first sort of comic book dealer before any store..I remember getting FF1 for 10 bucks in that basement...1967 ist. I myself speculated on the early Kirby DC issues and went to the distributor himself...strange he always wanted cash....
  4. I think jerry had exexptional taste. And both are home runs in my estimation . It’s just sometimes in your head you think one thing ... it becomes reality then it’s different ... one of the very few purchases that it has occurred, not in comic books only art. Prices today for comic art are more subject to price rigging as it’s a smaller market... 600k for a 80”s cover...that is why GA in my option is the safest best... especially Cap 1,3, whiz 2...unrestored , sup 1 and action 1 any copy.. and Bat 1... I would have to say my biggest regret was turning down a marvel 1 at comics and comics in the early 70s they brought the book up for us to look st.. we both turned it down... very nice copy.... for 2500....r
  5. IT'S A MATTER OF TASTE...BUT PANEL FOR PANEL, AND STORY WISE...ITS TOPS FOR ME.
  6. now we down three>.>>>YES ONE THOSE, WHICH ONE.....THE CONVENTION IS THE KEY...WHAT TYPE OF CONVENTION existed BACK IN THE 50s
  7. Clue #2...this story was exhibited at a "convention" right after creation.....I am handing this too you on a platter....and by the way it was critically acclaimed at the time.
  8. No but good guess, I give "master" a slight edge over "flying" but I like styles of both, surely a classic especially with RB as the author...come on guys...this story blows away all these....come on..
  9. here is a clue...it's six pages and is the greatest 6 pager ever created and it is in one of the 6 EC large Russ Cochran reprints full size
  10. I would of taken" Atomic Bomb" over those two, but it's not a war story
  11. #3 but this story is considered more "classic"...by the way I think at the original sale price of that was 10K
  12. Confirmed to Donnelly's and I gave them time payments. Dont get me wrong, the story is great, but having it and hanging it are two different things, kind of a negative vibe and its the thing where you have to be there to understand that over time and not the first month...and strangers who are not in the comic book world think you are...at least back them some kind of..you know what I mean.....It is a great story, but I dont regret selling it at all, but I should of gone for my gut instict first choice...there were two stories back then that I wanted, but this one I felt would be easier to obtain since its a new direction story. If anybody wants to guess what was the "other one"...which I regret to this day.....I will confirm it if you guess it. Don't know 100% if I could of got that one...it might of been a bit more $$$ knowing me nothing would of stopped me....Comic book/Art and Pin Up was and still is my passion.
  13. what a joke....it does pgx a true disservice
  14. you missed the 1982 bruce hamilton Action one sale price. I was at that trade and bruce hamilton stayed at my house after with the books and I remember him calling Russ. The trade started when Bruce traded "dangerous discovery" painting by carl barks for a stack of high grade GA. In that stack, was Action one....and I think was a copy that was acquired from Larry Bigman who got it from irving bigman, Larry was a doctor in Sacramento at the time as I recall, I think theo paid record price at the time, but I cannot verify how much he paid.....we migh be able to track that sales price, I cannot remember $12,500 or 17,500 thru an add in the comic buyers guide, if somebody can pull that up, he adveristied it as a VF copy or higher....
  15. early 1962 there were a lot kids who collected comic books but older teen collectors were there especially when the first 10 FF's came out, they were a really big at the hit...and changed things
  16. the ad sold me>>>i think i might of bought them>>rest in peace
  17. yes it seems there are always 2 sides to every story, it was a consigned book and that former owner refused to refund, I think the solution in matter is refund any profit that was on the book, seems the fair thing to do, I dont think that was brought up, I would assume at 5500, they were making 10% . This is a important reminder WHY we have the CGC...to prevent this type of thing occuring over and over again. everybody loses except for the consigner who got 5000 for 2500 book.
  18. I have mixed feeling on this one, As a collector who bought FF1 off the newsstands and number of early issues, I can tell you there was NOTHING like up to that point, kids were trading 5-1 to get a FF issue. I dont think that can be duplicated nor should it be compared with. 1960-63 was a very uniquie and usual time in our society and I would say very upbeat..our attitude was that "Science" would overcome man's inhumanity to man. its something most believed and you had to be there to understand it. Folks, this is 2018 and I appluad Marvel for trying something, no harm no foul as far as I am concered. But let's face it, FF 1-102 is a very tough act to follow, just like Spiderman 1-38.... Given that, I suppose as a failed attempt it is not as bad as it seems. so you have to ask yourself..something or nothing....I pefer something and lets give this thing a chance........and then dump on it
  19. You have got a long, long time to be here on this forum, and thanks for sharing the dealer prospective you have done for so wel for so long. In your opinion, based on your vast experience where does the current comic book market go from here in the next 5 years or so...has it peaked, still gas left in the tank, or is it gonna be like this forever with continuted growth?. Second question, going to back to the late 70's and the type of collectors who were buying/collecting , do you feel that the CGC comic book grading has broken up that group, into more distinct pure collectors and pure investors...what differences do you see good and bad that the CGC has overall effected the comic book collectors market short and long term since creation? Thank you.
