  1. Yes please post any or all Bookstore editions you have. Goodwills seem to be rarer in my opinion...... though a big DC unknown bookstore key was found recently that is very exciting.
  2. Top 5 foreign editions of the year post here I come. You know, 2016 has been a great year for me foreign comic-wise. Personally though, I have had to reduce the amount of coin I spend in comparison to years past. Raising a family has really started getting more expensive as the kids get older. I have had to change the way I spend and really reduce the amount of books that I pick up to ones that really matter. That being said this year still rocked….. I have seen the market realize some great prices on certain foreign books. Also, I have had some great opportunities to snag some great rare foreign keys, and last but not least…. I have seen rock solid friendships continue to grow and even created new friendships thanks to this niche and new players on the scene! I gotta thank the FCC crew for being my buds, you know who you are. And, I have really enjoyed sharing knowledge of the niche to some new collectors on the scene. Top 5 foreign editions for the year of 2016 by order of receiving them! The Finish Spiderman 129 mail away-Lets start by saying this book had a really really low print run. Then second, lets remind people that most of these were mailed to Finish collectors with address stickers on the back cover! A hoard of these were found and some totally mint copies without stickers hit the market late 2015 early 2016. I was able to nab one and I gotta say its one of my favorite 129 foreign to date. The La Prensa 1st him Mexican!-I am not sure if Warlock will make the MCU? But who cares, I have always liked FF 67 and owing the La Prensa is something special. Higher grade Prensas are really rare and this copy is beautiful! Very stoked…. The Australian TIP TOP 98-Of all the Bats 227 foreigns this bad boy and the Arabic 227 are the toughest. Many 227 set builders cry after years of trying to find one. For whatever reason this book rarely comes up for sale even when many Aussie books around this number will pop up on Aussie ebay. Why so few buying opps? Who knows, but this is a must have book for any 227 set builders and is a real gem of a foreign key in any grade. Filipino National bookstore Weird Western 12- Wow, and I mean wow for how cool this book is…. I only know of 4 copies that have surfaced. The nicest of those four resides with me! YAY!!!!! Unreal in its awesomeness not only because of Jonahs 3rd appearance and wicked cover…. but because of its rarity as a Filipino bookstore edition. WOW And last but not least my Spidey 238 Iclandic-Another humdinger! This bad boy is sick…. cool green background and Icelandic title, combined with massive rarity! The rumor is these icelandic books had print runs as low as 1600 copies! Imagine that? Thats miniature compared to most foreign print runs which were still very small compared to American distribution. What does that mean? That means this is probably the rarest edition of the Hobgoblins 1st appearance in comic form in the world! And one of these lives with me in its forever home. Thanks for reading and putting up with my wildly_fanciful_statement for 2016. If any of you ever need help, or have questions, or even planning a trip to Albuquerque or Santa fe let me know. Id love to meet up for a few beers and talk foreigns.
  3. Damn Marmat! You were not messing around! I think those higher graded Novaros could easily be in slabs... the question is what company? I wouldnt choose this one for foreigns....
  4. Very stoked to finally land one of these.... The Indonesian stuff can be hard to find....
  5. Interested in Spanish Vertice artist Rafael Lopez Espi? Peep my vid where I talk a little about him.....
  6. Awesome! Love to see them, please show the scans Rip. Yes, form my research a Filipino bookstore edition is def possible. Mainly because Goodwill issues pretty close to it in the run have popped out. The Filipino 227 is a ghost or as we like to say in the foreign niche a white buffalo. I have a good solid source in the Philippines now though so im hoping if one exists at least I will get some proof maybe.
  7. Arabic copies are tough and expensive. Watch out for people selling repros of them. Yup!
  8. Thanks! The Aussie tip top is a pain for sure... So stoked I found mine this year on Aussie EBay. Do you have the others? I can probably help you find the Brazilian pretty easliy....
  9. Im not sure I am adding much to the current valuation conversation...... but its 227 related so what the hell!
  10. Thanks man! Its hard sometimes to put yourself out there. Its a natural reaction to hate the way you look or speak etc. But, I am finding with practice im getting better at being comfortable speaking to the camera. This practice started with my experience on Comic Book Men. To bad the transaction didn't make the show but it was a learning, teachable moment for sure being in front of a camera.
  11. I have been having fun making videos.... Comic related vids in general seem to be all the rage on Facebook. A Facebook live stream I did....
  12. As of right now in our foreign DB there is 3. So that would mean we know of 3 foreign editions. The German, Spanish and Italian. Im sure there are more... I will keep an eye out for ya!
  13. Yes, there sure is.... archived back issues here.... http://foreigncomiccollector.webs.com/archive As far as the La Prensa FF1, yes its extremely tough! Many are locked up in there forever homes in Mexican collections. Very few come to market so a buying opportunity of amy grade is rare....
  14. Well thats an interesting question. In most instances foreign editions would have had drastically smaller print runs than the American. But, the print runs for the Caliber stuff was pretty small from my understanding. Especially for Crow issue 1 from what I have read. This might be the rare case where foreign print runs could be around the same or speaking of Western Europe possibly even higher than the Amercian. The honest truth is I don't really know? My Greek contacts say the Metal Comics can be real tough to find even in Greece so who knows…. As I learn more I will update you guys.
  15. I thought you guys might find my most recent acquisition of interest... The Greek Crow series by Metal Comics is pretty darn cool. Probably the toughest foreign editions of this series we know of to date. According to some research we think 12 foreign printings were done. So far we know of the Greek, French, Italian and Spanish for sure. We are searching furiously for a Japanese and despite what we think might be a Manga version we found... haven't had any luck finding it. With the Japanese obsession with honor and revenge, along with the cult movie status the idea is a Japanese edition would be very possible. But alas no luck as of yet.... anyways enjoy the pics! I love talking to James when I see him at shows and hope to take this book to show him somewheres soon... I bet he would get a kick out of it..... I think I am going to be building a foreign set of #1.
  16. Great articles Slim! I think as more awareness comes on line we will see further upward momentum on pricing growth. I cant tell you how many times I have walked into local comic shops/shows here in northern New Mexico doing a little show and tell. Only to have shop owners and random collectors make me offers on foreign books. I still think a huge amount of the general comic collecting public still has no awareness these books exist. Like we have always said... you cant collect what you don't know exist!
  17. I personally have seen Mexican Silver age La Prensa's explode in value over the last few years. Their rarity is a huge factor in this..... Throw in some deep pocket Spanish collectors you have to compete with and you got a market with very good growth prospects.... Supply is already having trouble meeting demand as far as some issues are concerned. Get ready... foreign books are right on the precipice of surprising some people.
  18. Well that stinks.... The Tagalog Komics with a K are actually quite beloved on the islands. Its the bookstore editions that harbor a sort of lack of respect all the way to ill-will. I have met some Filipinos who love their local output of American stuff but many see no use for them if they can acquire the American original... hence the rarity. I'm unsure if my dad had US versions or the Filipino variants. He said he had titles such as Superman, Plastic Man, Blackhawk, etc. Dunno if they have Phillippine versions of those. Sorta.. if it is the late 50 into the 60's I think the books your dad would have run into would be the South East Asia editions. It appears they were meant for all of Oceania and even Thailand and Vietnam, but were printed in the Philippines. Earlier in the thread there is some more great info about these....
