  1. I think the same question arises with respect to non-pedigree celebrity OO or collector notations. Will you pay extra for a Nick Cage copy? I understand Elvis Presley's attic at Graceland still has his childhood comic books, presumably including Captain Marvel Jr. What if the "Elvis Presley" collection of low- to-mid-grade Jrs came to market?
  2. My condolences to you and to his other friends and family. Thank you for sharing.
  3. Regie really doesn't say much. Dave from Comic Book Investments has been quite impressive for a relatively young guy, as is Brian from Bri's Comics. Also, i like Comic Tom -- he is quite entertaining and usually has a sidekick where the two of them are always calling out new GPA highs on keys. It's informative and fun to watch. These guys represent the next-gen in the hobby, and i wish them much success.
  4. What did that barber Occam say? The simplest explanation is often the right answer. Shortly after the pandemic started, besides the massive price gains on keys, esp Marvel SA keys, the other development in the hobby was significantly younger buyers, guys in their 30s, buying big/bigger books. They seemed to parachute in during 2020 and 2021. Their arrival and the massive price gains are not mutually exclusive. Many of these younger guys were specking crypto early, when it was comparatively dirt cheap, and became very, very liquid in 2021 when crypto markets exploded. Now, it is a blood-bath in the crypto markets. The music is stopping for many in that sector. It will be interesting to see how it plays out into our "hobby." On on that $3.3 MM OA buyer? My immediate thought was "crypto."
  5. Marvel Studios is in the ongoing process of saving the American movie theater experience. I really hope DC/Warner Bros. will get its act together and unveil a string of interconnected DCEU gems to get more audiences back in theaters. If this happens, our old DC comic books will become more expensive.
  6. Us old guys have come a long way from 70s/80s hold-your-breath, sight-unseen mail-order comics to https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/61-goldensilverbronze-age-only/
  7. My my. ASM 149 was my first Marvel also. It's probably a 3.0 now, but I still have it.
  8. So, the eBay seller of the ASM 3 CGC 7.0 C/OW increased the BIN price from ~ $10,500 to $16,675. With all the watchers on that eBay listing, I was suprised no one took it while it was listed for almost a full week at $5K less than the recent $15,600 CGC 7.0 OW sale on HA.
  9. I think the very first reprints of the Silver Age Marvel mega-keys (e.g., Marvel Tales 1; Marvel Super-Heroes 1, etc) are still very undervalued, although they are finally getting attention.
  10. I will never get over the Promise books. Many of the books from the first few auctions were total face-melters, especially the Timelys which we've never seen (at least I haven't) in those grades. Tons of white-pager 9.4s, 9.6s and 9.8s on GA books we just never see come to market. Overgraded and manipulated with a press? Ok. Knock it down a grade or two, these are still killer books, and you have to ask whether we will see anything like this again. Then there is the underlying story, which is almost up there with Ms. Okajima's. The PL 17 is my favorite. It is ... indescribable. This is why we collect, why we hunt, why we love the hobby.
  11. Such chivalry and gallantry on the CGC Boards over old Spideys. God, I love this hobby.
  12. A brief 5-second pause -- let's all appreciate the masterworks of the great GIL KANE.
  13. Accurate AF grading, reasonable prices and fast shipping. The Holy Trinity.
