  1. Out of curiosity, what was Venom's budget? Not sure what my question has to do with a thread on the Aquaman movie, but I was just wondering...
  2. Very Nice book, Silver! I'm with you on the "Slow-going" part.
  3. I'm not sure Aquaman is better than WW, but I'm going to see it again tomorrow, so I'll make that judgement then. I do agree with you that the lighter touch is what these movies need (excepting Batman, as you said).
  4. Regardless of the costs, wouldn't you agree that this movie is performing above general expectations? My belief is/has been that opening the movie in China 2 weeks prior to NA was a good move to help build anticipation. Also, this holiday corridor has benefited this movie immensely - it probably doesn't generate the numbers it is in the summer time (but I could be wrong)
  5. I saw it with the family a couple days ago and the audience was into it. There was clapping at the end and my wife and I couldn’t remember the last time we were in a theater when that happened. Quite frankly, I’m shocked at its grosses so far- I had zero confidence that it would do this well. It’s not getting lambasted like BvS or JL, so I would expect stronger legs than either. As for the movie itself, while it might have been a tad too long, it was enjoyable and was visually fantastic (the 4K disc will look great on my home system). Jason Momoa made Aquaman cool - not an insignificant feat!
  6. Absolutely beautiful book Bob! Best I can do is this copy:
  7. It's a DC movie - negative reviews are to be expected. I'm surprised they are all not negative.
  8. And we have the review from CNN: 'Aquaman' sails along on waves of fun and spectacle https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/11/entertainment/aquaman-review/index.html
  9. I think China limits the number of weeks foreign movies can play - it will play much longer in NA, hence the stronger legs over here.
  10. Shipping to Canada is $36.80 - too rich for my blood.
  11. Seems like a good move to premiere the movie in China a couple weeks ahead of North America as opposed to a few weeks after. It is a huge market on par with North America (if not larger, or at least soon to be).
  12. Paperheart is talking 5 days, not just the weekend.
  13. I don't disagree with you, but there is no goodwill built up in the DC/WB brand at all. Marvel/Disney could release a Betty Brant movie and it would probably outgross Aquaman (they have goodwill up the wazzu). I really can't imagine they think this will gross in the neighborhood of Captain America: Winter Soldier, Amazing Spiderman 2 or Doctor Strange. Even Justice League trailed all those movies, so Aquaman is definitely swimming against the tide. But don't get me wrong, I want it to succeed and I'm psyched to see it, but if they're projecting $40-60 million opening weekend, if it's not at the very high end of that estimate, that's a problem.
  14. At what final grosses do you suppose Aquaman would be considered a success? 200M+ domestic/ $450M+ Worldwide? Anything short of that and it is another nail in the Warner Brothers/DC coffin? Or is it more important that the movie is considered good quality even if it comes in at $175M dom/ $375M worldwide?
  15. I was in a Star Trek mood, so these ones are coming home with me :
  16. I don't see where the OP said that his wish is that the buyer never sell the books, he is just looking for the best way to sell the books without having to do so at the dealer's discount. Patience is obviously going to be key. Here or ebay? Put be prepared for it to take a while.
  17. So far nothing, but I did get to experience the snipe bid with ONE second remaining to lose by a few dollars on a book. That's always fun.
  18. Congrats Roy! I can imagine how exciting this would be for you. Sounds like you've got more good times ahead!
  19. Yes, CVA is still putting stickers on slabs for sure. I have a book that is being auctioned off that just got one. That being said, I don't see why this copy deserved one.
  20. Wow! 31-200 complete! Very impressive. I have a ways to go before I can make that statement - I think I need about 47 more issues in that range to do that. I anticipate a few years for that and even more to fill out 1-30 (those are tricky in high grade, for sure). Here is another one from my collection:
  21. B&B is a series that many people don't seem to collect (or care about). I don't really mind though, since I've now hit the 70% completion mark on the entire run!
  22. I have quite a few B&B's - here is one from 1974 that I'm quite proud of:
